Hi all. Sorry to disturb with another technophobe question...

I've just put GWX2 onto my system and have enabled 16km atmosphere. However, now, the sky has funny black lines and scratches appearing above the horizon. Reading the other threads on the forum, people have mentioned nVidia graphics cards (which I have) as a source of problems, but I'm unsure whether this relevant to my problem. I'm also a real computer wannabe who fall down on understanding them, so wouldn't know how/where to start diagnosing and fixing any problems...

I'd appreciate any assistance or advice you could provide. Many thanks in advance...

The fix is explained in this thread, starting from post #50 downwards.

Many thanks.

I'll wait for GWX 2.1, and if that fails to fix it, I'll tweak the files (I presume that it's simply a case of open with notepad, correct as per instructed and save...)

Cheers for your help.

Nope. Not so simple. You must open it with the MiniTweaker and use the appropriate rule file, then save the tweaked scene.dat and delete the backup file. If you need, I'll tell you in detail how to do it.

It should be fixed for GWX2.0 http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

This is the Mini Tweaker program and the file needed to adjust
the scene.dat file.

Sorry, do you mean 2.1? I've already installed 2.0. It's wonderful, there's just this little thing that bugs me...

Ton of thanks guys,

the black artefacts are gone

Instead of 2000 for "horizon" value in scene.dat, i put 2100 and it's ok.

Question is : Will there some side effects, visible or not ? What is exactly the goal of this value ?

Anyway, thanks again

I could notice no side effect in the two weeks since I fixed the file. The value sets the distance at which the game places the skydome around the sub. By increasing it, you send the horizon farther away. If the horizon is far enough, it exceeds the range at which the game is able to render anything and you don't see the edge of the skydome. I suspect the artefacts are still there, but the game visual engine is just unable to display them.

Nice !!

Very good finding, dcb

First time i saw those artefacts, i thought my graphic card was overheating and dying !! It was a brand new 8800GTS ..
