View Full Version : I'd like to give something back to the modders in this community

My site www.beyond-the-shadows.org (http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org) is primarily for my clan, but I believe I can give back a little bit to this community and its dedicated modders by offering to host any & all mods out there on my domain.

December '07 brought the largest surge in traffic I've ever seen on BtS, coming in at about 14GB of transfer used on that month alone. I have 500GB of transfer per month available for use.
Disk space speaking, we are currently hosting 2GB of files, however, not all of those megabytes & gigabytes are related to the 50 or so sub skins we currently host.

Personally I got sick of FileFront the minute I got on there, I hate how you get bombarded with ads every time you click a link. If I can get enough interest from all you modders out here, even the loyal SH3 fans, I'm willing to setup a separate area on my site for SH3 mods, skins, etc.

If demand is high enough, I also have another site that can be used as a mirror. I used it for FlightSim downloads but since there are already well established sites like mine, it ran its course and has been dormant since I stopped working on it.

If you are interested please let me know, I've got a combined 1000GB transfer and 600GB of space that's hardly being used. If I can give even a little bit back to this community I would gladly do it in a heartbeat.

[Update]
I've opened up a spot on my site for this:
http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/bts-mods/
It's still being worked on. Any volunteers for an admin team would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Very very generous:up:
I'm looking for new vault for all my collected skins.
Reachable forever for all silent hunters.
Filefront is very unstable site and requires often controls.
So - we're in need of making special place for all skins.
I mean A VERY BIG VAULT.;)

U-Skins are our treasure.

I just renewed my mirror site last night, BtS is still good for the next 170 days until it gets renewed automatically, so I'm all set.

Like I said when I edited my first post, I've got it in the early operational stages of being ready for use. It's not pretty, always a WIP, but I'd like to get a staff member team together to help me get this started, Koon's automatically on there by default whenever he registers (sorry bro, you've got no choice!!)

I've started to setup the forums a little further, I've got a place where you can apply for the staff or apply for FTP info & space. Also have a general discussion, comedy club, and will be transferring the BtS Sub Garages over sometime today. There's more to come, I'm still sifting through the details in my head.

You can contact me any way you like, I've already had someone PM me today looking for space for his SH3 movies and I'll start setting that up for him shortly.

Privateer it ain't much warmer down here bro, it's in the 30's and 40's today man - so cold my car has a hard time starting!! I can't even plug it in to turn on the heater!!

JC let me start setting up the FTP stuff and I'll send you the info. Not sure I'll be able to download your work and re-upload to my server within a decent time frame just yet. ;)

For the FTP the only thing you'll be required to download is a program called FileZilla or any other FTP manager. It's simple to use and on our servers it's extremely fast and reliable when it comes to uploads and downloads.

Although I believe I have some minor tweaks to iron out, for the most part the worst of it's over.

I also worked out the setup and how this will be run so we're good to go

I hope to get some more people involved, so far JCWolf's on there. A one-stop-shop for all SH3 related material is what I'm hoping to accomplish here :hmm:

Any day that I'm off work where I have to put clothes on to get the mail is a day that's too cold!! :o
We usually get 1 week of cold winter, then back to 75+ and higher temps til August

Thank you SWCowboy for your generosity. Will add your site to Favorites.

Were expecting a 4 day storm to blow thru here so it's batten down the hatches here on the island and go to the mainland house. I'd stay here but probably the internet will go down first and also my wife said NO. :D

I figured it would be for the good for this community to have a database where you've got everything you need on one spot.

Gotta listen to the Missus, that's for sure... Mine keeps an iron skillet handy if I don't jump off the comp fast enough :shifty:
