View Full Version : AI difficulty in TM 1.7.X

Since i am going to pack up the final version in the next day or two, along with these changes:

As one final adjustment as a kick out the door, since its such a simple change, i thought id ask about the AI.

Now, this question about AI difficulty, is based on EVADING DESTROYERS AFTER BEING DETECTED. (This does not deal with planes.)

AI.:yep: Mines,& Still to many A/C,that can inflect HULL damage @ 150ft,Could be optional enhancements to the INJ.AI.,giving the player the option to F_t_T_,your original premise for modding SHIV:shifty: Then players can add Optional modds,to see how hard they want to play.:sunny: Respectfully to your knowledge/efforts of SHIV.:up:

I put it as to easy anticipating that I will get better in time with TM, and want the AI to continue to be challenging.

IJN AI is fine....how about what donut notes above any chance on tweaking that....if not...a quick "how to" FTT style. Either way its all good!:up:

I have always maintained the AI in locating your sub was not good enough.
Once I slip below the layer, go silent and creep away, they never seem to be
able to get a fix on me. WITH ONE EXCEPTION !! Bungo Pete always found
me no matter what I did.....

In all honesty - I say a little too hard for the following reason - once found, its rare a DC session fails to cause enough damage where I have to seriously consider heading to the barn. I have tried the "dive deep and go silent and slow" - which I can head to 250-300 depending on class, get under a thermal, be at silent running doing 2 knots - and still get clobbered on a regular basis. I agree this is reasonable - but too often the drops are too "dead on" shacks - even if I try to dodge at high speed for a moment. Most subs that got DC'd a few times normally were shook but only minorly damaged in most of the cases (of course we are talking the SURVIVORS here). I think that minor damage (accuracy of attack) is more reasonable - but with an increase in the ability of the escorts to hold contact. Most DC sessions that I do escape from are an hour or less at 1x.... Its almost like they either are gonna clobber you - or are blind.... never much of a balance.

If anything - the 2 real issues I have is how easy you are spotted on the surface when at slow speed or dead stopped - especially at night! I can be headed right at a convoy, surfaced and stopped in the dead of night with clear weather - and am spotted 3-5 miles away. Its so dark I cant see the enemy - but by george he can see me! The second is a plane bombing me at 150 ft... I know its POSSIBLE that one might see me - but the possibility is rare - it takes an exceptionally clear water to allow for that. Definitely not every time a plane gets remotely close are they going to see me - or am I somehow underwater and lit up like a neon sign?

Ducimus - any chance you can tell me where I can change this?
Also - let me make it clear - I may sound negative - but I am really thrilled with what TM does and simply are looking to make it PERSONALLY feel more like I think it should. I realize that these thoughts are not the majority, its a personal thing.
And Ducimus - between your work - and that done by the modders that you have incorporated into TM - its one of the best mods out! :up:

I have tested 1.75, When SUB is in 60 feet, the destroyer is very weak against latent energy strength, the ability to bombard periscope is very weak, not real. I think:

1.The transformation that AI destroyer must be adjusted it turns around in the distance, but after the destroyer launches the depth charge.

2.Strengthen the destroyer and bombard the submarine periscope ability, improve the hit rate. .

Gents the poll is closed. i put in my vote just before i posted the final version of TM that I intend to publish. I waited to do so because i didnt want to influence what people voted.

The final version of TM that i intend to publish been posted. So as far as im concerned, whats done is done. If another modder or modders picks up TM, this is their ballgame now.
