View Full Version : Weird Commander errors

I'm running SH3 Commander v 2.7.0.130.

I've never encountered these before, and I'm not sure what the problem(s) might be. I'm in home base before patrol, and I've rolled back Commander. I've gone to 'manage my crew' and if I click on any of the officers, one of three things happens: 1) Commander immediate closes and goes 'poof', 2) I get error message #1 (see below) and when I click 'ok' Commander goes 'poof' and closes, or 3) I get error message #2 (see below) and when I click 'ok' Commander stays running.

This only happens when I click on the Officers, not the warrant officers or seamen.

Any ideas what's up?

Let me guess - you are running U-boat 1.2?

If so, then JCWolf needs to advise users that the officer face icon component breaks SH3Cmdr.

As this compatibility issue seems exclusive to JCWolf's mod, he needs to investigate what makes his icons sufficiently different from stock to make SH3Cmdr not recognise them (alpha channel perhaps?). I'm not aware of any similar problems with any other officer face icon packs and I know there's a few in existance.

ALL users of U-Boat 1.2 will experience this problem.

Just d/l U-boat 1.2 to have a look at the officer face icons. Noticed alpha channels. Removed alpha channels. Errors be gone.

I dunno why JCWolf added alpha channels to these images, but that's what is causing the crashes in SH3Cmdr.

Danke!

I was virtually positive it wasn't an actual Commander problem. But I was at a loss trying to figure out what it could be.

By the way, I've found both Commander and JSGME to be excellently designed, functional and useful. They enhance both setting up and playing SHIII to a degree that's difficult to describe. It's obvious you've put a great deal of forethought and planning into both, as well as a great deal of work. I just wanted to thank you for that. Sometimes it seems as if we all take Commander and JSGME for granted; we sorta take arms and legs for granted too --grins-- But it sure would be a lot more difficult getting around minus arms and legs. And that's how I feel about both Commander and JSGME: integral parts of running SHIII.

Again, my thanks and appreciation for all your hard work!

This is why it's important to donate to Subsim.com

Thought I would give Neal a plug :D

Thanks AvH. Don't get me wrong though - SH3Cmdr could no doubt handle the exceptions better, but I guess I was never expecting alpha channels to be added to these particular images so I never checked for them.
