Hi, just got DW (Steam version). Great game but have a couple questions... use of the FFG's helo seems kind of limited.... can you get them to dip their sonar?
Again for the FFG helos, is there anyway to adjust their torpedo presets... if not, what presets are used?
Also... lauching the torpedoes, you just give the helo a torpedo waypoint so it kind of just points towards your target and hit lauch, correct?
last question... when the FFG's helo is not under ship control what kind of things will it do, will it ever launch torps or report passive/active buoy contacts automatically (all autocrew off).
ok really last question, whats the difference between 'depth' and 'floor' torpedo settings ( I believe these are the terms used)

Thanks... also, I want to try the LWAMI mod but should I wait until I'm fully comfortable with the stock game?

IRT torpedo presets, I think you are refering to ISD (Initial search depth) and floor? On a torpedo, you can preset it to start a active search at a certain depth (if you know the operating depth of the sub.) You can also set things like the lowest depth it searches (floor), one reason being so it doesn't hit the ocean bottom if you are in relatively shallow waters.

FFG controled helos will not use dipping sonar in stock DW. If you use LW/Ami, you can get a helo to dip by setting a fly-to waypoint with no waypoints to go to afterward. There is no way to control helo torpedo presets from the FFG.

Thanks... also, I want to try the LWAMI mod but should I wait until I'm fully comfortable with the stock game? Most of what LW/Ami does is fix things that are broken in stock DW. So that depends on whether you want to get comfortable with **** not working.

Tried the lwami mod, pretty cool. hope it wont give me problems wth the stock campaign though.

The major problem is being counterdetected at mission start in some cases, because you spawn within the range of their more sensitive sonars. If that happens, just restart the mission.

Will the helo's dipping sonar be visible in the 3d view of the game? I just want to make sure I'm doing it right as I'm not seeing the dipping sonar in the F5 view despite having no additional waypoints for my helo to follow.

There are never, ever, ever any visible objects attached to any model other than ownship.
