I may be completely wrong here, but surely Olivebank was UK owned:oops: . The Bank Line or Andrew Weir & Co Ltd, 21 Bury Street in London? One of its sister ships, the Speybank was captured by the Germans and used as a raider (see book "Ship with 5 names").

Edit Edit Edit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She struck a mine!!!!!

An edit - she was sold to a Danish company!!!!!!:-

Sold to Gustav Erikson (http://www.bruzelius.info/Nautica/Ships/Owners/Fleet_lists/GE.html), Mariehamn, and given back her orginal name Olivebank. Her first Finnish master was Captain K. Troberg usw usw.

I'm positively sure, that Olivebank she was in Erickson's ship before it was sunkt. She's home harbour was Marianhamina in Ahvenanmaa in Finland.

If you follow the link I posted, you will see that she was owned by Gustaf Erickson 1924-1939. It also shows her fate:-

1939 September 8 Struck a mine in the North Sea at 55°53'N, 5°07'E and sank on voyage from Barry Docks to Mariehamn. Fourteen men lost their lives including Captain Carl Granith. Seven others who had climbed the rigging were rescued after 48 hours by the Danish fishing cutter Talona of Esbjerg.

I hope this helps. This is a bit off topic for the Mod forum though????
