To the Moderaters could there be a Sticky for GWX2.0 compatible mods only ?

There's been many posts about concerns of CTD's.

The mods are scattered all over the place again and some new GWX2 mods don't even state that their for GWX2 until a crew of peeps ask.

Just a thought.

Well, there is a problem with that idea.

Lots of people are making mods for GWX that FUNCTION but are not truly compatible. IE: Breaking a feature that does not cause a CTD.

Furthermore, depending on the function that is broken, we may or may not comment on it. For example, users may typically remain blissfully unaware that "mod x" removes the sounds that whales make... only to later report it as a "GWX BUG" expecting us to fix it... which is unreasonable. That responsibility resides with the person making mods for GWX.

From the first post of the GWX sticky thread:

"Notice to Grey Wolves Expansion users:
Use of 'unofficial' add-ons for The Grey Wolves Expansion are not supported by the GWX development team and their use is NOT RECOMMENDED for the inexperienced or casual user. The Grey Wolves development team cannot be held responsible for any adverse effects caused by the subsequent modification of any files made by other modders.

We reserve the right to notify GWX users of any additional mod that breaks GWX features as part of the user support we offer, as well as to recommend a course of action to correct matters for the user.

Secondarily, we cannot be expected to fix 'unofficial' mods placed on top of GWX. "

Seconded.

I'm getting tired.....

Please don't break GWX, we devs want to play it too and we can't while we have our user support caps on.

Maybe we should use proper definition to describe GWX 2.0 Mods by greywolves and GWX 2.0 compatible Mods by everybody else untill GWX team certifies it. What do you think? :hmm: So those who use Compatible mods are at risk?:yep:

Official/Integral GWX mod material that we develop as a team, will be linked to from our website.

If it isn't on our website or on the first post of our sticky thread... it is not official material. Nor will we link to every mod that IS 'certified.' In so doing, the integral mass of work by the GWX dev team and crew would be lost in a snowstorm.

Also, as stated above it isn't fair to the team to expect them to examine or fix everything that is released witha declaration that it is 'compatible with GWX.' I don't think that most people here realize just how much work that they are speaking of.

All this may seem unfair, but we do not get paid for our work... which is fine... but it means that we must draw lines and boundaries.

Something that we have discussed as a team over the last few weeks:
As modders stop building mods for SH3 and instead release mods for GWX to the tune of every possible flavor and color, clear lines of demarcation must naturally be declared by the GWX dev team to preserve the integrity of the GWX mod.

Allowing it (GWX) to become formless would be a mistake.

In the end, the modder and the user must be aware of the risks they take.

The statement below should cover most eventualities:
"Notice to Grey Wolves Expansion users:
Use of 'unofficial' add-ons for The Grey Wolves Expansion are not supported by the GWX development team and their use is NOT RECOMMENDED for the inexperienced or casual user. The Grey Wolves development team cannot be held responsible for any adverse effects caused by the subsequent modification of any files made by other modders.

Other disclaimers, etc from the GWX Manual:

GWX is a not-for profit, non-commercial venture. Our goal is historical accuracy, (within the limitations of the SH3 platform) so please let us know if you see something is missing, or requires correction or change.

We have tried to give proper credit to sources wherever possible, so please let us know if you think we have infringed on your rights: we will be happy to correct it to your satisfaction.

We have dedicated this modification package to the enhancement and enjoyment of World War II submarine simulations,

NOT the promotion of ANY political or philosophical views.

I can only mod & check my mods so fast!

Prior to GWX 2.0, I've always stated the compatibility of my mods with GWX. I use GWX as my base (template) for all my mod creations. I place the compatibility information both on the mod thread and within the read me file,

Now that GWX 2.0 is now out I will be going through all my mods to see the compatibility of them in relation to 2.0. I don't think there will be any real issues as the majority of my mods if not all of them are either sound/music or eye candy mods.

Please give me time as I'm juggling real life (just recently move house); and I have a few mod requests that I have to make for some good mates of this forum.

And

I'm one of the rare modders of this forum who have contained all of my mods in one thread area namely called "Venatore's Drive Through" :|\\

And :-?

I don't want my mods separated from the above mentioned thread as then my mods would be located all over the place.

Thanks. Now someone should sticky this onto the main page and say Everyone README FIRST "GWX 2.0 Mod Compatiblility". lol :rotfl: Maybe the nubs will get the message?:nope:

Sorry for my previous idea, I didn't make my message clear Kpt. I choose a poor way of suggesting a way to define working mods for GWX 2.
I didn't expect GWX to test every mod made. I figure some out there are worthy of GWX 2.0 quality that you guys may want to add or support?:hmm: Regardless you clarified it above.
