Hi to all and Happy New Year
Just wanted to ask the amasing mod teams responsable for NSM, ROW RSRD and TM about compatability
I understand that the above Mods have been released and that they, or rather versions of each are now compatable. As there is no single super mod that combines them I wonder if you can lend a hand to those of us who want to combine them for themselves.
As I understand most of the ROW work will work with the other three but after several dud tries, and a lot of lost hair I'm wondering if some one could look at the list below and:
Cross out any that are redundant or no longer needed
Place the remaining items in proper order so it will all work.I suspect such a list could be very useful for many of us who want to use these fantastic mods.
For instance I'm not sure if the bubbles fix mods are still required, or if they are now part of another mod. I dont know if the new RSRD replaces the original or works with it.
I'm still muddled re NSM, is this needed or is it now no longer needed, and the Remove Grain effect mod, still needed or can it be discarded
Here's the list, hope you will be able to lend a hand

First, choose which mod for playability you desire. TM adds some realism and is a good mix of playability. RFB is more realism. I use RFB. Both are good to start with. Once decided, then look at RSRD. This mod has two to download. Each of the two is specific to TM and RFB. Download the correct one. ROW is basically textures and sound that do not affect the games mechanics. The other mods from Sober are also texture mods and do not affect game mechanics. Prolong DC attack does change mechanices of the AI. I have them loaded like this:
ROW camera mod v 2b
ROW sub reflections and pitch mod v5
ROW textures with sun glare v5
ROW special effects with stock files v5b (be careful here as I'm not sure natural sinking mod can be used as yet with ROW)
ROW objects reflections and search lights v5
ROW sky and ocean controls v5
ROW slower clouds
RFB_1.4 for ROW RC1
RSRD P2 RFB V240
Prolonged DC attack
ROW sound effects ( I put this here because the prolonged dc attack has different sound files but I like ROW's sounds better, putting this here will overwrite the sounds from prolonged dc attack mod)
after this I just have the texture mods, like HUD's and chronos, etc. Very playable and enjoyable game. I have my realism from RFB and realistic shipping traffic from RSRD. The rest is sight and sound. Again, textures can go in anywhere when activating mods unless you are trying to change a particular texture, then the new file you wish to use should be loaded after the mod you wish to overwrite some files.

Thanks AVG:up:
I run two installs;
REL_Trigger_Maru_1.7.2
REL_TMaru_BETA_Patch_1.7.4
RSRDC_P2_TM_v220
RSRDC_P2_TM174_Patch1_for_v220
Recognition manual V2 TM SH4 RSRDC
ROW Textures with Sun Halo camera flair vs_5
ROW Object Reflections and Search Lights vs_5b
ROW SKY and Ocean Controls vs_5
ROW Sound Effects vs_8
ROW Realistic Camera with sway vs_2d
warships_retextured_v1_3
the second install is RFB but with the same stuff 'cept its RFB compatible.
I would not even bother with ROW but it is such an enhancement to the ocean and environment its a must have. I do not like running a lot of mods, keep it simple and all will be well.
Have fun!

Big thanks to WILKE and Mr Warhawk,
Will try your suggested combos, my brain was starting to fry trying to work out what goes with what
I really hope the various mod teams involved will combine and produce a super mod

AVG, I'm alittle curious as to why I don't see the RSRD p2 patch for RFB listed. Is it because the patch dose not need to be installed via JSGME? I'm asking because as of yet, I haven't updated to 1.4. Still waiting for NSM to be finalised, and for ROW to be compatable with it. I have the patience of a saint!:yep:
Here's a list of my currently activated MODS. I also would have like to have found lists like these a few days ago - would have saved me several hours of work, but I REALLY like this setup and it's very similar to the setup listed by AVGWarhawk above which is reassuring to me since he's very active on these forums. I did change the names of some of the MODS so that they line up in JSGME alphabetically in the order in which they need to be installed since there are a few which must precede or follow specific mods. Also added some position indicators in the names of the mods. I'm now evaluating PPI radar screen color/design options to decide which one I like the best. Having the gorgeous graphics (ROW), realism (RFB) and historical operations accuracy (RSRD) plus being able to add additional features and eye candy (although most mods I used in earlier days are now included in the the three big mods) is wonderful. I have had no CTD's other than when I tried to delete Ubisoft's music (OGG) files rather than just mute their repetitive music from the options menu.
Happy Hunting and Happy New Year.........Skip :D

As far as I know, the mod RSRD, RFB version is complete. Anything Lurker corrected is in the new download. The radio messages fix and spawning of 100's of ships at a certain spot. I hear he is working on the aircraft and airbase next:D
ROW is complete enough to run it. My feelings on the NSM. When I use RFB, the torpedo failure rate is very high. It is frustating enough. NSM will only frustrate me more. I like the ROW effects with stock zones. More often than not, I have read ships just disintergrating from 1 to 2 torpedo hits. NSM, although a great mod, does not seem to represent this enough IMHO. I would probably use this mod if my torpedoes were dead nuts perfect with every hit. My last patrol, 8 out of 24 torps worked. Not all vessels surrendered after getting hit. 3 ships sunk for the patrol. Real enough for me.

Hail and well met! i have been reading since quite a while but now is the first time posting for me.
I see some people running first the great ROW mods, then TM or RSRD, other run it the other way round. i would expect some files overwriting others. So my question is, which to install first? or does it not matter? (other then TM 1.72 then patch 1.74 then rsdp for tm and then the patch?)
Thank you for the reply if you know it!
ps: of course TM and RSRD are also great mods. cant say anything about other mods, as i didnt try them out yet.

Welcome to subsim tears of wrath
some one with a little more experience
with sh4 will be along.
in truth though for the big mods anyway
it seems that the guys have worked
co operatively to create compatability
and I think in the case of most of the
big ones they will have something
in the readme especially if something
must go before or after something
else its a matter of we have to chose
what we want and read through it at
that point. however some stuff
may not appear read avgs first
post

NSM has been part of TM for a while but the author decided to take it out. Its standalone but its compatible with TM. Cant say for sure about RFB. RFB has more ships in roster as far as i know, they are not supported by NSM so they might show odd behavier.
besides that NSM is compatible with any other mod unless it doesnt touch the damage system. If there are conflicts, install NSM last. It replaces the entire damage system in one piece. You cant break anything.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
So i do it the way i did it before. first the Looks, then the meat, namely first ROW, then TM and then RSRD. Thank you.
I really think SH4 is a great game, especially with the modders work. Cudos to them! And I am also looking forward to the ADD-On. Even while some will complain about the possible fantasy setting, you all need to look past that. It gives tons of more modding options, atlantic campaigns, And adds a strategic element to it, that surely isnt pure fantasy. You dont have to use it all, just pick what you want from it. The reason why UBI did that ADD-on shouldnt really matter. It is money of course, but for us it gives sheer endless possibilities.
Don't forget Foobor's excellent sub-skins. They are also mods, essentially.
My SOP is to load RFP or TM first then add RSRD. Then add what you like and if you see a conflict affecting texture files; I don't worry, if its one of the "important" files, I then go to the pertinent thread and do research....ask the author of the MOD.
I also take a peek inside the mod and see what files it includes and what it will be overwriting. My rule of thumb is Historical Accuracy comes before the Eye Candy! Thats my style! Oh and get a book to read, I am concurrently reading Silent Victory by Blair and this will add a tremendous amount of background to the game play in SH4. Especially for the Asiatic boats at the start of the war with Japan.
Its a lot of fun!
I am going to try Werner's mod and see how that works. Check out his thread, its coming pretty soon.
