View Full Version : Weather in GWX2.0

I play GWX2.0 and I love it:up: , awesome MOD:know:

Just a small thing I noticed, I played 6 patrols now: the weather is always nice at the beginning of each patrol-e.g Clouds Partial, Precipitations None, Visibility moderate, Wind 4 m/s- or very close to this weather pattern.
I would like to find a little more variety there. I used SH3 Weather with GWX1.3 but I am not sure it is compatible with GWX2.0 and even if so, am not sure it will fix this permanent, identical nice weather cycle at every d**n start of patrol:stare:

Any solution to this Kaleuns?

Just a note

SH3 weather will work on every mod, the programm working on the same metod as sh3 commander. Its not overight files its just set a parametrs to allready exist one - (i hope i was understandble English is not my mother language).

Well it doesn't work for me. First of all, thanks to unhelpful readme file, I'm not sure where to install it (it wants to point towards my own personal campaign files in my documents folder, which is where I ended up putting it). Second of all, despite saying that the SCN/RND/LND.mis files have been updated, they have not (judging by the "modified" date on this files and the fact that the weather was still the same when I ran the campaign to test it). :damn:

Can someone who has gotten SH3 Weather to work with GWX 2.0 come in here please and tell us how you did it?

I don`t know why you have problems with Sh3 weather but you need to install it in the game root folder (examp d:\silent hunter 3\)

Thats all :D That what i did and it works ;)

I just D\L and loaded SH3Weather - pointing it to the GWX 2 install I wanted to use

Now I have a SH3Weather icon in the root folder
Also SH3commander recognised that it was installed and started it

I set weather for heavy rain and high seas

Which is what I got

Cool!!

And you get this weather how long? Is it permanent or temporary?

What would be nice is to have bad weather at the start of the patrol and to have different weather patterns later in the patrol:hmm:

Not sure
Started a patrol in Bergen with heavy fog as a start point
Still had it 3 days later when DC'd to death

SH3Weather will change the start-up weather only; it will have no effect on any weather that develops during the patrol. I changed my SCN/RND/LND.mis files to have more varied and changeable weather during my patrols. I was sick of having 3 and 4 week terrible weather on a patrol. However, when I used SH3Weather, it reverted all my changes back to the orginal.
As a result, I don't use SH3Weather anymore.

Thats not totally true. I have changed Bad weather to a sunny day in a few min after manually setting changes in game while on patrol. :yep:

Interesting informations here, Kaleuns, I think I ll use SH3 Weather with GWX2.0 to check if it makes sense:hmm:

Wolfehunter;
How did you change the weather while on patrol? Did you use SH3Weather? Sweetis states that SH3Weather only changes the weather at the start of the patrol. When I used it, the program changed the weather intervals back to 0 in my .mis files, which is the reason that very long intervals of the same weather occur.
Won't changing the .mis files during the patrol cause CTD?

Won't changing the .mis files during the patrol cause CTD?In patrol. After you accept the changes takes a few minutes to change. Very realistic. Goes from bad weather to nice slowly. You see the rain stop and then the clouds vanish. No more fog. Ya its nice. I haven't experianced any issue or bug so I've made many patrols by altering the weather without a single hitch. I always say trial and error. Thats the way you learn. I use SH3weather and nothing else to modify the climate change.

I've been usin Skweetis' weather program from the beginning in all its various forms. The only real problem I've ever encountered was the plunge of death after saving and restarting. Now that that's been solved I wouldn't think of playing the game without it.

The latest version with it's own exe is the one to use. No fuss no muss. And it most definately works with GWX 2.0

Can you give us more details about this mod?

@Redfox11 Searching is your friend.

If you do a search of the mods forum... for "Skweetis Weather Mod" you should get your wish.

For best results with SH3 weather, you're best bet, is to just use the random function.... if you do start the game with a set weather eg calm weather best visibility, I find that that is on the whole what you will get apart from a few rough patches here and there.

Random setting is definately better.

If is is true and is possible change the weather ... could be possible a program that makes random changes in the weather more frequent ? :hmm:

For whatever reason, SH3Weather crashes my GWX 2.04 during loading. I start by running Commander, then Weather runs, but during the loading of SHIII I get the message that SHIII had encountered an error and must close. Dunno why. ::sighs::

SH3Weather seems ok with GWX 2.0. I had the encountered error prob as well but not sure if it was SH3 weather. I found rouge files in my Doc temp folders from a previous install that hadnt deleted and wernt part of the Doc's SH folder ya manually delete.

It seemed to stop doing that when I adjusted the SHCommander setting for wave height unchecked.

Unfortunatly im not sure which of the 2 process fixed the error since I deleted the temp files at the same time and havnt encountered that error again.

My weather patterns change every 4-6 days from one to another. I use it like penelope gray suggested.

Check out ya error report in the comp management area that helped me solve another problem with a exe error

Wolfehunter,
I still don't fully get how you do the mid patrol weather changes. Do you save the game, run SH3Weather and then reload? Or do you alt-tab to desktop, run it and then resume the game?

This sounds more like a result of the incompatible GWX2 Randomised events.cfg file. If you run SH3Cmdr with the malfunction/sabotage effects option selected, turn it off and the CTDs should disappear. The GWX team is currently working on a fix.

Yes I use Alt tab. Then I run the weather program. I make the changes and accept it. It tells me it changes the ***.mis files accordingly. I get back to the game and not long after that some changes. Look I don't know why it works. I didn't program this mod. I just like using it.

See http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=96710
The problem I found with changing the RND.mis file, as described, and then using SH3Weather is the SH3Weather program changes the values back to "1" and so I get the prolonged weather again. I have found that changing the values to "2" works for the fog, rain, and clouds, but not for the wind. I still get weeks of 15m/s wind, which makes my deck gun and flack guns useless. It appears that once the wind gets set to 15m/s, it stays there until the end of the patrol.

Wolfehunter: I have tried several times to use SH3 weather to change in mid patrol, as you describe, but I have not had any luck with it.

Redfox11

Ok, I used SH3 Weather with GWX2.0. I set up the weather "manually" at the start of the patrol with some rain, clouds overcast and bad visibility to cut with the everlasting "Clouds partial, Visibility modrate, wind 4ms" nice weather pattern:roll: .

Well, first of all, the 2 109s overhead in poor visibility conditions does not make sense. Moreover, when loading a saved game (far from base, of course) "precipitations none" becomes invariably "precipitations medium" and the rain disappears after a few secs leaving you only with the sound of the rain...without the graphics...

What I'll do now is to try to run SH3 Weather without the manual option to check how it goes:yep:

I will keep you posted about this new set up.

I can't speak to the rest, but the planes, like the ships in-harbor and the crowds on the dock, are scripted. They are there no matter what the weather conditions, but when the weather is bad enough you can't see them anymore.

I'm trying to find an old thread about adjusting the wave height, lost all my bookmarks in an O.S reload. Have tried the search, but no luck.
As I remember it the new values to edit into the SIM files were something like:

**example
[Mech]
Waves amplitude=0.20 ;[0,1]
Waves attenuation=0.04 ;>=0

I'm not at all sure these were the right values, does anyone have the link or can give the right numbers. I used the new settings in GWX 1.03, and they seemed to work well. I am trying to find them to insert onto GWX 2.0.
