Now that the mod-machine is in full force, how hard would it be to do a Japanese campaign? You could base the Japanese sub on the S-boat (performance wise), then just mod the exterior of the sub, or could you just make a new model from scratch?:hmm:

honestly Niki I dont think its that hard at all in shIII I sail as an RN sub
quite often

the issue will most likely be setting up a campaign based on it
in III I have to just run a contiguos mission.

if your willing to accept the english graphics and U.S. equipment
it would take only the time to copy and paste
into the S boat into Japanese roster folder and make some
missions based on it.

also given the structure of campaign building in sh4 I dont even
really think thats an obstacle only the us equipment and english
language.

Great minds think alike.:hmm: A voice mod would be a grand undertaking! I wouldn't really care if there were any Japanese characters (words) on the dials, but it would be cool to patrol off the West Coast, Hawaii, Australia, etc. I wonder if it as simple as flipping the switch, and making all of the US forces hostile. Unless everything is hard coded in the program, it seems like it would be easy to do. Just a matter of knowing how to do it.

I have tons of reference stuff on Japanese subs. I could do some pretty neat missions I think.:know:

well like I say I can get you into a an IJN Sub in about three minutes
as long as your willing to ignore thats its a US built sub.

No Problemo:up:

as for Mission building thats the same in either game
but campaign building in sh4 I havent looked at in detail
I am however totally confident it can be done but an authoratative
answer would have to come from tater at this point.

[edit] the real question regarding campaign is not can we get an IJN sub
but can we get a working IJN sub base? (tater?)

id say see and get the german addon for SH4 first and mod it from there:up:

indeed I would wait till after that anyway so as not to have to
retool the mod as such anyway.

I wrote a similar thread on this "[TEC] Convoy commander / Destroyer Command II" and it flopped pretty quickly for the same reason,

Wait for the addon.

After all it IS the smart thing to do, but doesn't mean I haven't been doing my research in the meantime and may have some tricks up my sleeve :)

Now to just get some help moddling the 3d bridge view for a DD.....

How do you do that? I'm very interested!

Hi DS , well as previously mentioned its only if your willing to
accept a foreign built boat.

in the case of shIII its as simple as going to the
german roster file and copy your favourite boats
roster cfg file.

then place in the equivalent file of any nation.
(many nations dont have a sub file just make one)

next go to Mission Editor and make yourself a mission.
when you start out go to the subs tab and choose
the nation you put the roster cfg into. select your sub
and place on the map where your setting up
(dont forget to choose player driveable)
then build your mission. save it
when you select your mission the sub will be
sailing under the correct flag for your needs.

in this case as stated absolutely nothing
is done to change the sub from german equip.
and names at all it will be entirely as though
you were on a german sub as normal only
your nation has changed.

now with a little light modding you can get
the display names to change to another.

with a little medium modding you can possibly
change the display names for equipment.

with a major amount of modding you could
change the model of the sub in and out.

but if your just wanting to join the queens
sailpast then this is the easy way if your
willing to ignore your boat.

I guess as with all things theres easy good and best.
the method I use is the short and easy one
for the plain and simple reason that I am too lazy
and when I First tried it I had to many other things
on the go to get too deep into it.

now that all said I am trying to have a consultation
with someone regarding non german sub bases
for a campaign but the technique is there and im
sure its possible to have RN sub bases but I just
havent done that part yet. however assuming that
much is possible then a career game is possible.

to be clear there is no driveable RN sub model
hiding on my hardrive. But its possible to make
one for someone im sure and the above establishes
the potential.

honestly it was just a thing for me in my game
didnt figure it to be useful to much to others
due to the extreme compromise of sailing a
german uboat with german equip and uniforms
under a brit flag (or other)

finally in closing I will say this the first time I did
this it was to join a Royal navy fleet sailpast
and it was very cool.

what also was cool was sailing the Frankenboot
(surface raiding super arcade cruiser sub Uberboot)
as a surface escort for a Cruiser group.
(uberboot has the speed to do so.)
the escort part was neetest sailing in a destroyer
position into a cruiser battle was a whole boatload
of fun.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like Douglas Reeman's "Go in and Sink!" (RN sailors in a captured U-Boat).

Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
