View Full Version : SH3 Gen

Hi everyone,
I am currently running SH3 with GWX 2.0 & OLC GUI. I have installed SH3 Gen
with the Frame Net thingy exactly as I did with GWX 1.3. I am now suffering CTD's
and on uninstalling SH3 Gen I still have major conflicts and the only thing left is to
uninstall everything and start again. My question is, is SH3 Gen ver. 0.8.1 compatible with GWX 2.0 ? previous posts have suggested yes but I can't see how.
Many Thanks,
Herr Trigger.

That is a good question. It shouldn't as SH3Gen only reads the files and does not write to them. It is a stand-alone program. Also do you have frame net 2.0?
I plan to activate the SH3Gen program today and test it.
You didn't, by any chance, put the program into the JSGME mod folder, did you?

FYI, I've been using SH3Gen since it came out and have been using it with GWX2.0 with no problems.

Hi there, Yes I'm on frame net 2.0 and no, I didn't run program through JSGME.
I did try this earlier in the week with disasterous results, but a previous post appeared on or around the 18th asking for compatability and as the answer seemed to be yes I attempted a second installation with the same results. I'm thinking that if I reinstall the Frame Net thingy it could be good ? I hope so as everything else is running brilliantly and SH3 Gen adds that extra bit more.
Thanks for your response.

Herr Trigger,
You are welcome. I tested it and it works fine for me also.

Thanks guys for helping new users - looks like I have completely lost touch with the SHIII community :(
By design, Sh3Gen should work with GWX and future modifications. Except a small "if" - if there are no really weird changes to the campaign files. We had this before when some people hand edited the campaign files, but as long as the modders chose the clean approach and use the Mission Editor, there should never be a problem.
Glad to see people are still enjoying my idea, and please let me know if something really important is happening.

I did notice 2 Spainish flags on ports along the Keil Canal.

All you need is in my signature. It's recommended to use the link to my site because most mirrors have outdated versions.
Search for Sh3Gen (not SH3 + GEN) otherwise it's too generic.

Oh, I remember that one. I always thought that it was an error in GWX, not Sh3Gen. If you know how to, do a search for the relevant entries in the SCR campaign file, and I am sure you will find a spanish base somewhere around the Kanal.
One could do a hack by explicitly overriding these entries, but I try to keep the filters as generic as possible.
We also had similar weirdness with older versions of GWX, where some Swedish bases appeared around the globe, it became visible only in sh3Gen, not SHIII itself.

GlobalExplorer,
I love your mod, but I don't have a lot of computer savvy. In your tracking room instructions, you state the GIS is very powerful and you will issue instructions if you can find the time. Are you still going to work on this? I don't have the foggiest idea of how to use all this date, and manipulate it to get the most out of it.
You also mention a property table. When I click on the name, I get a 404 file not found error. Where is it and how do you use it?

Ahoy GlobalExplorer,
it tried your SH3Gen together with GWX2.0 and it still is working wonderful
No problems so far (my 5th patrol in current career)!
That is a fine tool that I recommend! (For those intel-loving guys like me)
My intel settings are intel 20% reliability 40%... maybe I switch those settings in my next patrol

Yes. I absolutely recommend to keep intelligence very low, possibly even lower than the default settings, as the value is set to give some instant results for new unexperienced users, if you have experience you will change them anyway.
The reliability param is another thing, and depends on your config. If you configure Sh3Gen to use only the SCR layer, it might be a good idea to lower the reliability until the updates are not always dang on. If you use the RND (with or without the SCR) reliability is a big problem because Sh3Gen can only guess if the game will spawn the unit or not. So it might be best to set reliability to max in that case.
The default setup is intended to be a good compromise of you use all the default features, but depending on whether you're a casual player or a realism freak you must move them into one or the other direction.

I think I am guilty of having promised too much here. I am still very much interested in the subject, but there are a lot of things that have kept me from SHIII and my projects, namely work and a ****ty situation with internet access. Did you know that a lot of people in East Germany have no access to DSL because there is no such option for the expensive fibre optics telephone cables that the Bundesrepublik built for them during the 90s? If I should find a way to get into the internet in the evenings you would see me more often in this place.
There is a guide on how to add/edit marks into the Sh3Gen GIS part, but it involves complicated procedures like editing an xml file and creating approximate marks in SHIII in the correct order. I did not expect a lot of people to use this feature, it was just the only working approach I could come up with.
Maybe you could download the full TatukGIS application (it has a trial period of 30 days) it has full functionality to edit the maps generated with Sh3Gen. You could also get a completely free GIS tool (like QGIS or SAGA), but it requires some knowledge that I cannot teach. Maybe someone else in the forum can do it one day, I know there are some regular users who have cracked it without any trouble.
