View Full Version : List of signatures for a final patch!
Hi!
I've bin with this community since the beginning although mostly I've bin hiding in the shadows of the deep!:ping: I just think this would be a good time to remind Ubisoft of finishing the game, they still have one last patch to do for solving all those hardcoded bugs written about in the GWX manual. Maybe the community could collect all the bugs in one place, make a list of signatures and send it to Ubisoft? If they solved those bugs and made the patch compatible with GWX2.0 and SH3Commander I would even pay for it...
What's your thoughts on this matter? Any volunteers? Subsim?

No use imo.
THis game is too old to pick up again by Ubi. Let alone financially interesting to do it.

agreed I am certain ubi has no dedicated staff on shIII anymore and
there isnt enough money even in a paid patch to make it worthwhile
I think from ubi's perspective that although shIII is one of there
most enduring releases its still a dead game to them.
shIV on the other hand still has dedicated support for probably almost
another half year.
Agreed, SHIII became dead to them when SHIV came out.

I'd say a year before that. As soon as SHIV development began.

dead as a dodo, besides a final patch would only mess up the mods and fixes out there made by everyone in the modding forums, its almost right except for a few glitches, when you look at the modding done, and graphically if your desperate you can steal half of sh4 and add it by editing in s3d.
We then should make a petition for SH-V. But I think it is too early. Maybe we can see some planning of it in 2008.

An SDK revealing how the hard-coded stuff can be changed would be the cure, but I seriously doubt that'll ever happen...

theres nothing in it for ubi except starting an exciting new trend in
gaming
the modders addition with sdk disk and eula for an extra fifty bucks.
something that revolutionizes the pc gaming industry and gives it
a complete edge over game dedicated hardware formats.
Driving up hardware sales for logitech and software sales for ubi.

Maybe Ubi and a host of other publishers should follow Valve's example with regard to the modding community.'Counter-Strike' arguably the most popular multi player game started as a mod for Half Life ,valve not only supported it but ended up releasing it as a stand alone game and including it in Half Life 2,same thing happened with the 'Day of Defeat' mod and the game 'Gunman Chronicles' which was essentialy a total conversion mod for Half Life.
All of the above mods contributed to the longevity of Half Life and ensured a solid customer base for Valve's next releases.

I perceive a vast difference in the philosophies between Valve and Ubi. Valve appears to do a few things, but does them very well with long term exploitation of a project intent on wringing the most they can get out of it. Ubi, on the other hand, seems to go for huge genre variety, but with less depth and long term commitment. It all comes down to money and once they close the checkbook on a title, they don't seem to want to reopen it unless it is so badly in need of patching that it shortens their prospects below the break even point. Then they will only invest as much as needed while the product is still of enough interest to move off the shelves.

What is odd is you never hear what Ubisoft has to say about it. Why don't they say whats on there mind and get it over with? I think we can handle the pressure. We're big boys right. Bring it on Ubisoft...:hmm: Did I get carried away again?:nope: :dead: Going back to sinking ships:D

Its doutful that Ubi will ever release another patch for this game even with a list of sigs and bugs. What they need to do is release the SDK(Software Development Kit), or the source code as it would be a great help for those modders out there. The biggest problem is trying to get to get in contact with someone from the company to let them know that this is what we want. I've looked on their websites and they have no links to tech support or anything like that.
....kicking a dead horse......its done.....for me what with GWX 2.0 and OLC's GUI .... I am done
Its just not going to happen.
No way in hell!
You'd be better off ask the Modders!
They're more likely to help you and do it right!:know:
Hail to the SH3 Modders!

Modding is the only real alternative now IMO :arrgh!:
Ok, maybe I was naive in thinking that a joint effort from the community would make any difference regarding Ubisoft!:damn: But what the hell it's christmas, let's hope santa hears us!
By the way, nothing beats the modders of this game. They've done an excellent job! All my gratitude to the modders!
