RadioLog_Expanded Updated (RL_E Updated) has been Released as of 4.26.08
This is a corrective release adding a few thousand new messages.
Please see http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=848538&postcount=57
or
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=127239&page=3 and further for details.

Thank you.

How about an early Christmas present?

RadioLog_Expanded contains 8,380 radio messages for Silent Hunter III.
(yes, eight thousand, three hundred eighty)
It is a text Mod that replaces - add's radio messages to the messages_en.txt file.
I have worked and tested this mod on stock, GWX, NYGM, & War Ace for compatability.

RadioLog_Expanded is a JSGME ready install.

This mod supercedes radiolog_final_2006 as it is a continuation of that work. Should go without saying it includes all those messages plus a few thousand more.
By year Expanded contains:

`39 548
`40 1682
`41 2190
`42 1702
`43 1058
`44 1000
`45 197

Expanded already has the messages found in GWX*, NYGM, & War Ace messages_en.txt file. (1.7 megs uncompressed) Expanded adds a rich immersion to the game. The messages are from translated logs / sources believed to be true and accurate to date. Messages checked for duplicates, timer corrections, etc. There has been so much over a few years added to the game I as well as others have enjoyed. I'd like to think of this as my way of giving something back. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, all that jazz.

* Please see documentation for details and credits.

Very well then. I present to the SH3 community; RadioLog_Expanded. Enjoy!!

And I'm spent.

Aside from any correction release I do think to be done with this series.
Took a long damn time to finish up, alot of PIA repetition. Although I am glad to have finally gotten to this day and release the work.
Hope that those interested in adding depth and immersion to the game enjoys the Mod.
I am thinking to relax and enjoy the holidays and play the game myself, not just test stuff.

To the hunt!:arrgh!:

No, you can enable it mid mission. It's fabulous...but I did have to send "Sparks" to his bunk for awhile as the sheer volume of incoming traffic was too much and disrupted the card game.

I always loved IrishRed's original, and was sad that it never got finished. Thanks for your hard work in completing this project. Now go sleep for a week.

And then be prepared for the complaints:
"I get kicked down to 1x every five seconds!"
"Half the messages don't make any sense!"
"Is that convoy really there, or is it just 'ear candy'?"
:rotfl:

Excellent, this is one I'll be using for sure! :smug: Many thanks indeed! Great timing too, before I embark on a new career in GWX 2.0. Congratulations on a lot of work well done! It'll certainly add to the immersion and liven up the long stretches of each patrol. Let's see how long it takes before the morse code signal drives me mad ;)

The only 'issue' with a mod like this - when in base between missions I'm going to miss out on a lot of news that I might have heard (in reality) whilst in port, so I might have to resort to reading the file in Notepad between patrols. Very authentic, I know :yep:

Hmm, now there's a potential nice addition to SH3 Commander - a summary of missed radio messages to cover the time it calculates for you to stay in port.

Glad to see the interest.
nicbear; SilverGhost is correct you can enable it mid-mission as I've done that countless times testing, n/p. But I still can't recomend that. The better percentage of Expanded's timer settings are 3hr's durration @ 100% but not manditory. Others have longer settings and are transmitted like it or not. Since this is a text mod I highly doubt that would ever be a problem for the game engine if you enabled it 1/2 way down a timer run. Hope that explains that.
Sailor Steve; Your welcome and some sleep would be good, but you know there's always one more patrol.....
"I get kicked down to 1x every five seconds!"
"Half the messages don't make any sense!"

Commander is your friend. :yep:
Read it again. :hmm:
"Is that convoy really there, or is it just 'ear candy'?"
Should be, or was that agent report realy working for the Brittish?

Just to help clarify a question for GWX users, RadioLog_Expanded is completly compatable with GWX 2.0.
A few days before this release I was granted permission to include what radio messages GWX 2.0 has that Expanded would not have already included. And they blend into the mod very nicely!
And that's better for anyone looking to enjoy this Mod. A thank you goes out to the GWX team for that. And also another thanks to IrishRed for the original work. I think with those two ingredients and the 'Expanded' part the "M" key might hold a few surprises. :|\\

Please tell me that if the radio message indicates a convoy in AM24 (moving east at 6 knots), there will be a convoy in AM24, moving east at 6 knots. If you say "Yes", I will D/L your mod and say nightly prayers for your safe return to base! :)

Haven't heard news from the guys working on any translations. But knowing the time it took to place RL_E together it takes patience. I also noticed about a half dozen or so messages being sent at the same time. And a few spelling errors. These are so easy to correct with a text editor a corrective release realy isn't in demand. And it occurs alot of players are doing just that. However it could still happen down the road.

I found a couple of misplaced dates, with the end date being earlier than the start date. Am I correct in assuming those files will not play at all?

danurve

Yes, that would be my findings as well. Dang I though I caught them all.
If you could PM me the line #'s of these msg's, or perhaps the original start date so I could correct them I will fix up the d/l.

There is an update in progress!
It will stay in this thread, notes will be in the readme. There will be about another 1500 new messages. Plus a few corrections to timer settings etc. Should be ready by the end of April. There will be close to ten-thousand messages total.

Note for Translators: I will have a file containing just the updated/new messages for your works available by request. So you don't have to go through the entire Mod again.

Request from me to those using current RadioLog_Expanded:
There are a few known messages being sent at the same time/date. (1601 hrs. for example) I would like to correct these for the update. So, if you know of or see this durring game play - Please make a note of the year-mo-dd and let me know here or PM me. This will be of much help.
Thanx!

News on the Update:
The update should break 10,000 messages.
It will include the "U-Boat lost" messages from GWX 2.0. */**
I'll update the readme - maybe in word or pdf.
The readme will include instructions on how to;
1) change timer settings to group the messages.
..the game will then send multiple messages at the same time.
2) how to remove unwanted messages.
3) addiing your own custom messages.
4) how to change t/c with Commander.
5) any other damn thing I might think of.

*Format improved
**With thanks have recieved permission to include msg's RL_E did not already have, about another 2 dozen messages.

There is a converter available http://files.filefront.com/MQK+Converter7z/;9768851;/fileinfo.html

But be advised, those kinds of messages are from real life. The game usually doesn't have anything going on there. They are for immersion only.

News on the UPDATE.

RL_E will have aprox. 10,175 messages.
I have manipulated a general 24hr timer window for the messages.
--this was in responce to many of them with a window of only a few hours.
--did this in a speadsheet, in doing so noticed other problems.
----some tab spacing while apears ok in a text editor was not, FIXED
----several dates out of order / incorrect, FIXED
----about a dozen or so timer dates / duplicates, FIXED

In case one missed the information in the other thread, the readme will include instructions on how to remove some specific messages such as the u-boat demise or added Agents Report messages. And what to do if you want your messages all sent at the same time for those who don't adjust your T/C in Commander, as well as how to adjust T/C in Commander.

Ok, I should have RL_E Updated released in a few days, before 04/26.
Just finishing up some formatting in the log, and the readme file. It has a bunch of instructions on custom editing the d/l.
From the readme:

The Goods by Year: (subject to corrective change)
RL_E ~~~ RL_E Updated
`39 548 ~~~ `39 597
`40 1682 ~~~ `40 1952
`41 2190 ~~~ `41 2538
`42 1702 ~~~ `42 2293
`43 1058 ~~~ `43 1807
`44 1000 ~~~ `44 1563
`45 197 ~~~ `45 305

Total 8,375+ ~~~ Total 11,054 +/-

Decided to include my work/messages about enemy naval losses in report format.
If you take a look at the new totals by year RL_E Updated makes an attempt to even out the years a bit more then the original logs, even Final_2006 or RL_E.

Note for Translators: I will make available a d/l file with just the new-added messages upon request. (aprox. 2500 msg's)

danurve
04-24-08, 07:45 PM
Please Stand-By.

RL_E Updated is done and will be available by the weekend.
I have decided to include two suprises.:hmm:
One has to do with messages about Wolfpacks, the U-boats and actual Kptlt.'s names & their success.
The other is about the lost U-boat messages. They have been changed, or completed to sort of honor the boats historical loss instead of a message just saying it's gone. Readme file will contain instructions on how to remove them, but if you do that you'll not know the difference now would you?

Be aware since RL_E Updated is now over 11,000 lines the readme file has also grown with 3 pages of instructions on how to modify things for your taste. It can be a bit convoluted if a user isn't pc savy or versed with a good text editor. And so once I'm done with building my new PC and back from vacation I may offer to help with custom messages_en files. Since I do beleive this is final for RL-E. Also, as long as the request doesn't come from a complaning, whining, spoiled, spoon-fed liberal.

In December of 07 RL_E was released giving 8,375+ messages for SHIII.
May I present RadioLog_Expanded Updated (RL_E Updated) for SHIII. :|\\
RL_E Updated gives you 11,215 messages.
This is a corrective release that includes New & added messages.
[see the readme for details]

FileFront page http://hosted.filefront.com/danurve/
RL_E Updated link http://files.filefront.com/RL+E+Updatedrar/;10078513;/fileinfo.html

If that link goofs up let me know because sometimes filefront links and forums are, well goofy.
Also there is a file there [new msg sh3.rar] it is replacement ogg/sound file for new messages received. It's some morse code and then a clip from Das Boot. Anyone interested feel free to check them out.

NOTE for existing RL_E users: Updated contains everything RL_E has. I still recomend uninstalling RL_E before upgrading/installing RL_E Updated. Just to avoid folder confusion using JSGME.

Is there anyone who can tell me the original source for messages involving the zones around Britain in which darkened ships were eligible for attack? I have been searching for a while, and I just can't find them. They appear in the Radio Log (paraphrased) like this:

10/19/1939 Darkened ships extended to 20 deg. W. Sunk by torpedoes only.
10/29/1939 No surface approach of shipping in the North Sea to include W of Orkneys
1/6/1940 Submerged attacks in eastern coastal area A.
1/10/1940 Submerged attacks in English Waters.
1/12/1940 Submerged attacks in eastern coastal area A & B.
1/24/1940 Submerged attacks in eastern coastal areas A, B, & C.
1/24/1940 A extended 2 deg E, B S and SW to 10 deg W including Irish Sea.
5/24/1940 Submerged W of Scotland and off French Atl. Coast, zones E & F.

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on messages to include in the message log for the mod I have mentioned and I have a couple of questions about how it works.

I've noticed that the messages in the RadioLog Expanded mod have a window for the date/time of the message that begins on one day and ends on the next. Is it required that the opening and closing dates be on different days, or was this just a choice of the modder?

Also, I've noticed that some of the longer messages look a little unwieldy on the screen because of their length. Is there a maximum number of characters (or a reasonable approximation) thereof that would give me a good idea of when to break messages up?

Thanx in advance.

Choice of the modder, but you need to leave a decent window otherwise at very high TC the message may not fire.

Also, I've noticed that some of the longer messages look a little unwieldy on the screen because of their length. Is there a maximum number of characters (or a reasonable approximation) thereof that would give me a good idea of when to break messages up?

I'm not aware of a maximum message length. The longest in SH3 is My U-boat men! Six years of submarine warfare lie behind us. You have fought like Lions! A crushing material superiority has forced us into a narrow area. A continuation of our fight on the remaining basis is no longer possible. U-boat men! Undefeated and unblemished you lay down your arms after a heroic battle without equal. We remember in deep respect our fallen comrades, who have sealed with death their loyalty to Fuehrer and Fatherland!||Comrades! Preserve your U-boat spirit, with which you have fought courageously, stubbornly, and imperturbably through the years for the good of the Fatherland.||Long Live Germany!|Your Grand Admiral.

The longest in GWX is Allied troops have been evacuated from Dunkirk." ... We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France and on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender and even if, which I do not for the moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, will carry on the struggle until in God's good time the New World with all its power and might, sets forth to the liberation and rescue of the Old."|Winston Churchill - 4 June 1940.

That should give you some characters to use up!

Better chance the message will be heard. If the window is too small, or only set for the daytime, the U-boat might be under water the whole time, and thus never get the message.
