View Full Version : Strange behaviour...
Downloaded GWX yestday, and started out in the academy. Upon the last examin, the attack upon the convoy, I encounterd some really strange behaviour. I just made an rather poor attack, and was trying to avoid the the two escort vessels, when I suddenly heard cannon noices. Somewhat strange, since I was 60 meters down below. I took a quick look at the external cam, and found that the two vessels, one destroyer and one armed trawler was firing on each other...:hmm:
The situation ended up with the destroyer laying dead in the water, and the trawler went to see Davy Jones.
I have not seen this before, and I dont know if this have anything to do with GWX?
Othervise, thanks for a really nice update of your mod. I really like it!!!
...by the way, anybody know if the Elite crew mod is compatible with GWX 2.0? (I really like the white cap on the officers)

It happened to me once, ages ago - also in the Convoy Attack in the Academy. As I recall, the two escorts came at me from opposite directions, I'd been trying a surface attack and crash dived as soon as the first shells hit the water near me.
The two escorts blazed away at each other. One was sunk, the other left almost dead in the water. I surfaced, finished it off with a few rounds from my deck gun and then had a real turkey-shoot with the convoy.
Never found a reason and never seen it since.

Ive actually been known to do this on purpose.
what happens is the destroyer attacking you is
getting close
you raise your periscope for a look
the ship furthest away sees it and fires on it.
due to the close proximity of the first ship she
gets hit and takes her partner on in a fratricidal orgy.
I discovered this in academy and have used it a few times
to get me out of a jam when out of torps and room to run.
I wouldnt pass under anybodies stern but their concentration
is on each other at that point and normally the winner is
usually grievously damaged. so ahead full and make your
escape.

The reason for this goes back to Stock SH3.
Basically, if any surface unit damages another surface unit, the game makes them enemies. That is why they continue to battle it out.
It's fun to watch.:D

I've used this deliberately when I ran into 4 DDs patrolling the north sea whan I was on my way home, with no eels.
They spotted my boat so I crashdived but couldn't get rid of them, only 80 meters deep and there were four surrounding my position at all times.
So I emergency surfaced, deliberately trying to ram one, a near miss, my boat took a couple of shells but so did that DD, I crash-dove again and that DD opened up with everything on his buddies, and then there were two... :D one of which was badly mauled, so I got away...
Lunacy but fun....:|\\
Does the unit turned enemy then attack ANY previously friendly unit, or just the one that attacked it? (this could be useful)

Confirming what Danlisa stated here.
This is NOT a GWX bug.
It IS a very old stock SH3 issue relating to AI failures to identify alignment.
SH4 Fixed it by adding a new parameter to units that CANNOT be added to SH3.
Ok, thanks, then I know. I shouldnt complain, it made my day, my initial attack was really crappy:arrgh!: , and I was actually prepairing to retake the examin...
...saved by the bell, I guess :know:

Normally the escort group destroys the unit that missfired
then go back to hunting you but if the unit is stronger
ie. a destroyer vs two corvettes after destroying the escort
group the renegade will go back to hunting you also

CC. Was hoping it might still be broken in SH4 :D . I'm looking for a way to get true friendlies to attack a player. (I can make a new country with friendly units that otherwise looks the same, but that's not what I'm after (SH4)). I want "Don't worry, it's the Army Air Corps! Why are they diving at me? CRASH DIVE! Blub, blub, blub... BOOM!"
Heheheh
Actually, I have a solution that will work after a fashion already, but it can get ugly.

First time I saw it was last night while in a mp mission...I was trying to figure out who was shelling the ship I was next to...Till I had a look around...Im sure somebody is in the brig today...
