John W. Hamm's Uniform Mod V .5 Read me
This is definitely a work in progress still, With that being said here is what I have so far
1) All Enlisted ranks from E1 - E7 at this point that is as far as the game goes
2) Officer ranks 01-03
3) all Uniforms are at this point mostly short sleeved shirts with the exception of Ensign and CPO they are
both long sleeved, there are no shirtless, or dirty shirts in place at this point
4) also I have included a new crew management plate, using the same B&W pictures from Captain Cox's photo mod but
Glossy insignias it does use the real medals as well. If you don't want to use it delete it out of the files
5) all Uniforms are from Captain Cox the rank insignias I pulled off of various web sites with the exception of
Officer they were left as is from the original file
What to Expect: Unfortunately I cannot make it to where it can be used with a current Campaign, so you will have
to start a new one. Once installed and you start a new campaign all of your crew will then reflect their current rank
on their 3D image. If you promote them, their rank will change automatically just like in SH3, Your Lt's will be Lt's
Ens be Ens, PO3's yup you guessed it...etc...etc...

This mod will not get in the way of any other mod unless the mod already manipulates uniforms I.E. RFB or any of the
Captain Cox mods, then this will substitute some of its file in place of those however it will not conflict with any other
mods or game files I have been testing it for over a week and so far no bugs.
Whats next? given that this is a .5 version then there are issues with insignia placement, Color, more Choice
in uniforms all of this is being worked on, it just will take some time, but for now this is what I have to offer,
I will speedily Release at least one more version and slowly another the first will add the rest of the Captain Cox uniforms
with correctPlacement and color of insignia's on Long sleeved, short sleeved, dirty shirts, and no shirts. The next
update will will be addressing adding the rest of the Officer ranks Ltcdr-Adm. and their uniforms into the game as
well as making the capable of promoting past Lt. there is allot of file editing involved. Not to mention trial and error.

Please give me feed back on what needs to be changed I would like to make this mod as accurate as possible. NOTICE: #4 crew management display accidently did not make it into this Version... Sorry my mistake

It's not just you. I think perhaps there is a problem with the link?

This link will get you to it. http://files.filefront.com/John+Hamms+SH4+Uniform+Mod+V5/;9253770;/fileinfo.html

I know, they look exactly the same, but if you use the copy shortcut right click option and paste it somewhere you'll see the difference. I think that's how the original link got messed up, it was "copy"ed instead of "copy shortcut"ed. How do I know this, you ask? Been there, done that

I used Filefronts search function to search for "John Hamm" (good thing he had his name in the mod name :rotfl: ).

Enlisted personel during WWII did not have dolphins, however that is not why the CPO in the pic is not wearing any, some of the officer shirts from the Captain cox mod had dolphins and some did not, this particular shirt was based on the Ensign shirt which did not have any on them, I believe he made it this way because sometime's they wore them and sometimes they did not. however yes ther are dolphins, and in the final mod they will be gold not silver as the current ones in the mod are silver (according to history the officers dolphins were gold unless some one can point out to me otherwise, in the finished mod that is how they will be)

Nice! Keep up the good work. I would try working making the edges of the chevrons and stripes a little more smoother the for the next go around.

Sorry ...
This cap is small for me ... :hmm:

What we need are entirely new caps to replace the one CaptainCox created, one that isn't so blocky and angular. Hopefully S3D will help in solving that problem one day. Something like this:

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/i03000/i03570.jpg

CPO's cap on the far left, Officers cap on the far right.

I do like the looks of your mod so far, but I tend to agree about the hat. I would love to see more and am anxious to do so. With all the modding talent in this community every day is like Christmas. You never quite now what new mod will be added and waiting to be downloaded!:D

Also, I have sent some PM's to CaptianCox and I have not heard from him, nor seen any new posts. Anybody knows where he is at? Sorry, if have already missed this info I have had limited time as of late to come the forums. Cheers, and thanks all!!

John, a question for you: did the enlisted blue work shirts actually sport the rank insignia on the sleeves during the war? All the period pictures I've seen don't show this.

No not that I know of I don't think (I stress think) that it became practice untill the vietnam era. I know it was done with the blue shirts by the 90's for sure though:lol: as while I was in the Corps I would visit my cousin who was on the FFG Sides in San Diego amd I saw them plenty there.

"To the unacquainted it could appear that the rapport between Officers and men was quite informal, and to a large degree it was, but it in no way detracted from efficiency, military courtesy, tradition or discipline. There was a strong mutual respect. Aye-Aye Sir, Very Well and Well Done were accorded as appropriate. The vast majority of the crew was rated and competent in their skills. Obviously so were our officers. There was no such thing as stenciled ratings on dungaree shirts, if worn, so a person coming aboard a submarine at sea would have a difficult time determining any individual's rate. Also there was an axiom that in submarines "you left your rate on the dock". Ability was the hallmark. To add to the perceived informality was the fact that the uniform of the day generally was dungaree shorts, sandals and perhaps a T-Shirt." - WWII Diesel Boat era by Michael Skurat

BTW Verson 1.0 (I.E. All the rest of the shirts are just are just about finished)

So, in that case, can we get a version with out the sleeve rank insignia? It doesn't really make sense to show the ranks when it wasn't even part of the uniform at the time, kinda like how originally the Seaman ranks sported their modern-day names.

It's my understanding the Gold Dolphins were for officers and Silver for enlisted. Also, I do believe enlisted did wear Dolphins, but only with their dress uniforms - which doesn't apply to the game.

That maybe be true I can only go by the refrences I've read, and those stated enlisted did not get dolphins until some time in the 50's and yes they were and still are silver. so... as you pointed out they still would not be in the game so I dodged another bullet.:D thank you and I will look into it further, I want to be as accurate as possible so any help or details that are offered will be well received.
