I know that we have a great mod that allows us to have our officer and Chiefs to have officer rank insignias however if by using the mod myself I have found that the officer etc... do not wear the correct insignias most of the time, is this correct? or has there been a fix? the last time I read up on it there was no way to change this. With that being said and if that is correct I have found out how to change it to where they always wear the correct ranks in campaign or short missions so if you promote a crewman it will be reflected in his 3d image just like in SH3. and I have done so in my game. also I have found a way to add enlisted and chief ranks into the uniforms in this same manner as officers, not to mention, but on another note I have possibly found a way to promote your officers all the way to admiral if you wanted instead of just to Lt. where it presently stops. But that is taking some serious editing in the files, and also taking alot of time so the promotion above Lt. maybe a ways down the road. None these changes would effect any other files in the game thus they would be compatible with all mods but unfortunitly I hate to say ... you have to start a new campaign. At this point I have modded all the enlisted ranks into the game as well as Officer although they are all only short sleeve shirts with the exception of Ensign and Chief those are both long sleeved. also I used present day insignias instead of the blue WWII style for enlisted So I will have to change that all of these were done with the textured uniforms found in RFB (make sure everyone gets credit). Now I will be working on assing long sleve and no shirt crewman to the mod as well as doing the same for officers. oh yeah and change the enlisted insignias to the blue, and just maybe down the road I will will work more on the rank advancement aspect but that takes serious coding (but I think I got it cracked).

Well I think I have a 1.0 beta (so to speak I have used it with JSGME and found no bugs) Like I said in the previous post the insignia needs some work but atleast i have them all in blue now, I think I'm going to try to post a pic here, and eventually I will learn how to make it available for download (if anyone wants it) http://a642.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/36/l_b7f3ee39c241222e84f0873c44bc07d9.jpg (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.editAlbumPhoto&albumID=18657&imageID=36749)
Any feed back would be great!

This is sounding really cool - sounds like an awful lot of work to go through, so I hope you manage to get them to be period-correct as far as the insignia themselves and also the placement/location on the uniforms - hopefully there are enough sub crew photos from the war available on the web or whatever to serve as good guides for this.
Looking forward to this one
Not wanting to rain on the parade (or anyones Great Work  ) but most WWII photos of American Submariners will be a bunch of guys wearing a pair of shorts and sandals . Unless they're on shore leave.
Seriously though--This looks really good. I hope you can find a way to get rid of most of the 1st Class Petty Officers. There was only 1 in the after torpedo room for example. I find myself performing a ritual of swapping out crewmen between patrols. I don't mind doing it but I just wish there was a "rotation/transfer" option in the game.
Cheers!!!

I would really like to move the insignias up a bit on the arms to for the sake of being military correct but sadly the way that the game renders the images causes them to warp and bend if they are placed any higher, so this is the final placement...sorry.
As far as historic accuracy goes the submarine fleet as a common practice did not wear the stenciled ranks on the dungarees as did the rest of the navy
"To the unacquainted it could appear that the rapport between Officers and men was quite informal, and to a large degree it was, but it in no way detracted from efficiency, military courtesy, tradition or discipline. There was a strong mutual respect. Aye-Aye Sir, Very Well and Well Done were accorded as appropriate. The vast majority of the crew was rated and competent in their skills. Obviously so were our officers. There was no such thing as stenciled ratings on dungaree shirts, if worn, so a person coming aboard a submarine at sea would have a difficult time determining any individual's rate. Also there was an axiom that in submarines "you left your rate on the dock". Ability was the hallmark. To add to the perceived informality was the fact that the uniform of the day generally was dungaree shorts, sandals and perhaps a T-Shirt." - WWII Diesel Boat era by Michael Skurat
Also at that time there were right shoulder rates and left shoulder rates as the graphics for each sleeve are the same single strip I cannot make it to where they are only wearing their rate on one side or the other depending on their job, which brings me to the next stage and that is of the rates inside the rank insignia, its one thing to mod the uniforms of each type to reflect each individual rank but then to add each rate would mean each uniform type I.E. long sleeved, short sleeved, long sleeved dirty, short sleeve dirty, etc... X E-1, E-2,E-3 etc... then X each rate of which there are six in the game. and even if I could do that the game would not take the rate into consideration when accessing the uniform portion of the files as there is no algorithm in place for it as there is for the general uniforms however I will look into for a future mod but at this time it would be maybe a third version for which I have not planned though I think that would be cool. So at this point the insignias will be as is unless someone would like to make some others (at least color in the white part to make it fit more in with the stenciled look) then I would gladly add them. I honestly wish they could be more period correct though but my graphic art skills are not the best.
Your graphic skills are fine ! Compared to what you do, my graphic abilities resemble tracks from a worm that crawled through paint.
