Is there or will there be an SH3 Combined SkinPac for GWX 2.0 like there was for 1.03? Maybe it's not needed now with all the updating to GWX 2.0? I'm not really sure exactly what all it did for 1.03, would someone like to explain and/or comment.

I asked the same question, and the answer was that 2.0 incorperates the skins and no longer needs Sub Commander for that function. Really speeds the load times now! :)

Does 2.0 change the skins according to the date like the Sub Commander skin pack did?

No. GWX 2.0 does not change ship skins based on the date. You will still need SH3 Commander for that function to occur.

I think what is confusing ppl is that we have had two different skin packs. One as a standard add-on (which has been included in GWX 2.0) and the date-based SH3 Commander skin pack.

The date-based SH3 commander GWX skin pack will need to be reviewed and probably redone. We've modified nearly every ship .dat file in GWX. (There are 170 ships over the stock 40 odd) and the latest files MUST replace old ones or the player risks experiencing all sorts of issues from loss of ship propulsion to even CTD's.

An updated SH3 Commander skin pack is on hte radar... but it will take some time. We'll let you know after we've had a little time to breathe and enjoy what we've built for a while.

Thanks, that answers my question. Looking forward to updated skin pack and understand you all need a chance to take a breather first.

Remember, most of those skins are included in GWX now... they just aren't date based until sorted via SH3 Commander.

Whether or not we get to offer the date-based SH3 commander skin pack, depends on the artist who compiled it originally and his real-life commitments. It may not be carried out. I don't know. However, I can promise that it will be discussed on our private forums.

Sorry if it sounds a stupid question !

This means that we can still use the old skin packs
over the SH3Commander ??:hmm:

Should be able to for most skins.

You can NOT use the old GWX SHIII Commander Skin Pack with GWX 2.0. Many of the ships are not multiskinned so the only way to have their skins change through time was to replace the ships dat file. All the ship dat files have been improved for GWX 2.0 so if you use the old Skin Pack you will be replacing some of your shiny new GWX 2.0 ship dats with old dats.

Multiskinned ships will still work in theory but it will require some changes and carefull attention to detail to make the adjustments yourself. Some of the ship names have changed and the number of skins for some units have changed. There are also new units in GWX 2.0 that were not included in the earlier Skin Pack.

I have just run my first few SHIII patrols in about a year, all my SHIII time was spent on development GWX 2.0. It bothers me to see paint schemes in the wrong time period so after a few more patrols I might have to start working on a new skin pack!

p.s. For GWX 2.0 we used mostly mid war skins. For ships that appear late in the war they have only late war skins. Ships that are present at the beginning of the war have a few early war skins.

For those who can't wait, you could "clean" the old skinpack and make it al least safe to use.
Just do a search of the contents of the skinpack searching for *.dat
Then kill all the found dat files.
Sure the newer ships won't be affected, and renamed ships can't pick up the skins, but it wont make GWX 2.0 crash.

Boris is correct. Just be verrrry careful if you attempt his suggestion.

@Ichneumon, thank you for your comments.

<points to ichneumon> Guys, when ichneumon talks about ship skins... perk your ears up. ichneumon is the chief ship skinner for GWX and a memebr of the GWX dev team. Following in Boris' footsteps, ichneumon has given many ships in GWX... skins that are better than those found in SH4 IMHO.

Heartfelt thanks to Boris, ichneumon and fubar for skinning nearly every ship in GWX.

Sorry for the offtopic.

When i first install GWX 2.0 i imidetly went to museim, and i was very VERy happy with the default skins that i saw there, and especialy with 3d models to  .

All i want to say is take your time, and let to you and us the users (or other moders as well) to take a close look on your awsome "monster" you created :|\\ :ping: . We all humans affter all ;).

Sorry for my bad English writings
Happy hunting :yep:

I see !
Then the most easy way is just to uninstal,
SH3 Commander also, and install again a fresh
one for the new GWX 2...

Its the safest way !

However I have yet another question !

Can new ships that are not in GWX be haded normaly ?

I mean AOTD Ships For example and the upcoming Merchante Mod from Iam. ?!

Thanks

Yes they can just add them change the shipnames file (English or German depending on which one you're using) and they will appear on campaign. The only ones that you cannot see are the scripted ships. All the rest are generic and random.
