View Full Version : **** GWX 2.0 Release and download FAQ *****

For one week, GWX 2.0 is a donation download to support Subsim.com
After Dec 16, it will be come and get as you wish.

What is the link to the donate area and how much?

Ref:
a) http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/gwx_donation1207.php

b) what you wish to donate.

c) Thanks.

Current Status: The GWX 2.0 Download Info e-mails have been sent to all existing donors. If you did not get the e-mail, and you did make a donation, send an e-mail to subsim@subsim.com with the Subject: Here's my donation info, look me up

In your e-mail I need:
The date of your Paypal donation
The e-mail address you use for Paypal

Hopefully, there won't be many of you, I spent all morning combing the database.

When will the release info e-mail go out?
Kpt Lehmann has sent up the green flare, tighten your chinstrap, it has begun.
When the release and download info go out, they will be sent to 100 people at a time, with 100 more every hour. This is to prevent 300 people from downloading at the exact same moment and crashing the server, which means no one gets to download.

Am I on the list? Is my e-mail correct?
Don't worry, by this afternoon I will ask people who have donated to send me an update of their status; did they get the release info e-mail? If not, please wait until I ask for your status here. That way I can check your status and answer your mail faster.

What if I make my GW or Radio Room donation now? Or later today? Or Monday, Tuesday, etc? Will I get the release info?
Yes, once the backlog of people on the list is cleared up, and the stragglers with incorrect Paypal e-mails or aggresive spam filters are addressed, I will pull a fresh list from the Subsim Paypal account and add the latest donors, then send the release info out several times a day, as new donors appear.

Do I still need to send Neal an e-mail with Neal, my Subsim donation goes toward GWX 2.0 please in the subject?
No, at this point, all skippers who make a Paypal donation to help Subsim will automatically be included in the list.

Thanks to Kpt Lehmann and the GWX team for their thoughtful suggestion to use the release of GWX 2.0 as a one week donation download. This has been very helpful, and once again has shown how Subsim is a unique community with the best people on the web.

Ok, to slow down the flood of PMs, let me post some FAQ here.
Please keep this thread clear of off topic posts, if you have an issue, question, or something that needs attention, post away.

Thank you for your donation and support,
good hunting!

Is it normal to have this sent to you 3 times? Currently the Subsim and Deep Domain servers are running at full load processing downloads, you are next in the que for the early download access to GWX 2.0

Yes, I'm just letting you know I haven't missed you and you are in the list. E-mails with the download info are going out 50 every hour, yours should arrive this evening. I had to throttle back a little from this morning, we put such a load on the server the forums just about stopped working. Right now we are trucking along nicely, so I will keep processing e-mails.

Madox58

That should be Fresh install of SH3 patched to 1.4
GWX 2.0 is a stand alone version!
No previous versions should be installed.

I will be adding to the Subsim DVD, probably some time this week. Doggone DVDs, :shifty: they used to hold so much stuff, now I can't squeeze all the super mods on one disk. I am thinking about going to the double layer disks.

I got my e-mail, this GWX has to be close to a gig in size with all those bin files, your servers Neal are impressive to be able to handle all of that, this Has to be costing you as well.

My contribution to the effert was kinda weak, but I do get paid again on Friday so I will be sending you more via Paypal then, maybe then I will be able to sleep at night?? :hmm:

Install was a snap, Uninstall everything, reinstall SHIII, patch to 1.4 then install GWX 2.0. From there run the mod installer, update the Commander program and fire up SHIII once to enable the Commander program.

I do have one question though for Neal but I will send him an e-mail, hopefully if he doesnt know the answer he can pass it along to someone who will know the answer:yep:

Thanks again, I am playing it now, looks good.

Not recommended, has to be a fresh, clean, unmodded, uninterfered stock SH3 patched to 1.4b.

@Neal, think there is a 6 gb 'dongle' in development or released which would more than accomadate and easy to burn to and post but they will be expensive [a lot more than blank DVD disc's]. However, could be worth looking into :hmm:

Dear Neal:

Since I became member two days ago, this is my first post ever in this forum.

What a great site! It was an honor to support your website and the admirable GXW developer team. Gents, you deserve all the credits. I tip my hat Sirs!. I thoroughly enjoyed GXW 1.03 and I am more than curious about GWX 2.0. Further, I encouraged my dear Kapitänleutnants to donate as well. I trust they won't let me down.

Thanks to my donation, I received your email yesterday providing the DL link. Everything went smooth and fast. It took me some 1 hour 30 minutes only to download all files. I had an average DL rate of approximately 250 kbyte per second.

The overall size is 1.2 gig I guess.

Again, my warmest thanks to you Neal and Kpt. Lehmann and the whole GWX team.

Rosenzüchter.

Congrats to Kpt. Lehmann and the GWX team for another landmark in Modding history  The release of this has encouraged me to reinstall SH3 (I'm usually found in the Pacific). I hope that in the future the GWX team use their prodigious talents on the U-boat add-on for SH4.

I'd rather pay for the disc including postage plus donation if I could.
I wont d/l for free later though whatever, great job from what I've read and the donation is well deserved and either way I go with this there will be one winging its way over.
Can you advise re the disc option?.

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining as I do not know how, but I am willing to learn. Seriously. Due mostly to my impatience and my wife who every time I start doing something finds some more Christmas decorations that need put up immediatly, I have been having a few download speed problems getting 2.0. Bin 1 came through at around 500kb/s but since every time I try and get Bin 2 and the others it has been slowing down to around less than 90 which takes 1/2 hour plus, then i get disgusted or she calls me about the decorations. I don't think the problem is in my connection as I have a supposed 10.0 Mb/s receive speed on cable. My question is Neil, if its not too much trouble, is what time are your subsim download servers typically getting the least use? Maybe I can set the alarm clock when she is not bothering me or take a day off work. Thanks in advance and also many thanks to the GWX team.

Just to check something. GWX 2.0 will not install without the Ubisoft 1.4b patch, otherwise there is a warning message saying it wasn't detected. I'm just rying to clear something up between the older version of SHIII with SF, and the newer version (licenced) from Amazon patched to 1.4b.

I'm reloading 1.03, 2.00 just isn't working with my system. Athlon LE 1620, MSI board, X800 XT (Omega 231) card, 2Gb DDRII800 on WXP. I have stripped down the whole machine and checked everything, and formatted both my HDD with the O.S having been reloaded twice.
Running no mods except those included in 2.0 and as far as I can tell following the installation instructions exactly. After about a few minutes the whole system locks up. Also, the only way for the game not to run too dark is to force a colour profile through the try tools, which creates the problem of the map view being bleached out on the one hand, and the night time completely black. Have tried four versions of the graphics drivers to see if that was the cause.
I can't find any problems with any other software or games on my system, so I am not sure if it is a software issue or not.

This an unauthorized (please, Kpt.Lehmann correct me if I'm wrong) collection of binaries which are therefore without value at all! :nope:

UN-FREAKING BELIEVABLE!
I just looked at one file "there" ...631 downloads already! :nope:

If it could be tracked down, every single person that downloaded from there, should have a 3 month suspension from Subsim!!

Or...The GWX team should be givin a list of every member here that has "qualified" to receive it...HERE...and anybody else that comes asking for "support"...be told to go ask "THEM" for help!!

Wow. :nope: That's really depressing that the files were released by another site. Hopefully, progress is being made in terms of getting those files taken down from the site.

Just a really classless move on their part. Gets a big, fat,.

What floors me is the fact that there was no lower limit on the donation. They could have made a donation of a measely $0.50 if they were so inclined. Cheapskates with very few morals and no patience clearly.:nope::down::down::down:

And a very poor move on UBRS's behalf to allow the files to remain available. They are now off my bookmarks and I've no plans to use my account there again after this.

You need to keep in mind the figure is not strictly accurate because there are a number of decent folk out there who are intentionally repeatedly downloading the files in order that whilst there might be little people can do about their treachery, at least it can be ensured they get a larger than expected bill from the host server for using excessive bandwidth ;)

By there actions, not have they only cheated those who have donated, but also Neal and SS :x

I just looked at one file "there" ...631 downloads already! :nope:
735 for 1.bin
If it could be tracked down, every single person that downloaded from there, should have a 3 month suspension from Subsim!!

Or...The GWX team should be givin a list of every member here that has "qualified" to receive it...HERE...and anybody else that comes asking for "support"...be told to go ask "THEM" for help!!

IMO..........UBRS now go down in the annals of sub simming infamy as being little more than pariahs......persona non grata......quisslings of the lowest order :nope:You Know I hate to say this. There always have been pirates in the sea.:yep: History has proven that to us.:nope:

A very classy reply Jim. It's all I can do to sit on my fingers here, and stay off the keyboard, wanting to make a few comments that would be extreamly more "colorful" than that. :stare:

That classic scene where Chevy Chase goes into that raving rant about his boss that cancelled his Christmas bonus comes to mind! :x

If my most fervent wish were to be granted, it would be for the following:

1) A boycott of UBRS by all members of this community

2) A blanket ban by Neal and his team of the posting of any links to said 'House of Judas' on SS.

Well I would refuse to download so much as a photo from the house of Judas now... even if it was the only place on the net to get it... Id go without on principle.

So my support is there chief... all subsimmers follow the new course Im setting to give UBRS the same wide berth we give the English channel.

As for their line about a member of the GWX team "keeping his word" I don't believe it for a second! Not for a second! Yet again the GW team is the victim of some small individuals outrageous lies and vicious gossip.

I received my e-mail & the download information.
I made a folder on my desktop and then clicked on each file in the e-mail...exe, bin1 through 7 and then when I clicked on the .exe all I got was an empty notepad folder that just sat there with that hour-glass thing. I dl'ed that file checker tool & it just put an red "X" by each file.

what could I have done wrong? I have Cox high speed so each download was only a few seconds to 10-15 minutes or so..., but they are all empty.

Try DL'ing them all again. Sounds like an ISP connectivity issue mate.

suppose I had the right ships in gwx 1.3 and copied the random ship file from 2.0 to 1.3, would I cause any problems?

Yes
The RND layer also has references to some of the new units in GWX

You could copy the Campaign files but you would also need the Roster folder\Sea folder oh and the Land folder ummmm oh yeah the Air folder too - oops and the Library folder too

All the above are interlinked

Hey Team!
My lousy HD crashed again last night, and I lost everything...AGAIN! I have the "old" links to 2.0...any chance of getting the new ones?

The sad part is...I burned a DVD for one of our folks here, that has donated, but was on dialup...sent it to him Thursday...and never bothered to burn my OWN copy!

GGGrrrrr!!!:damn:

Dec 16 is here, you can download GWX 2.0 here (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/gwx_donation1207.php#free).

To Kpt. Lehmann, privateer, jimbuna, ref, Pen, Danlisa, and all the GWX team: Let me express my appreciation again for what you've done. Over 130 people donated for GWX 2.0 and not only will I not have to worry about the costs of running the website for most of the year, I've had additional RAM added to the forum server. Also, I've sent a Subsim Xmas gift to our key forum moderators, and I made it clear that GWX made it possible. These are the kind of things that make a place like Subsim click, thanks for that.

To all who donated: Thank you. Thank...you. What a great community.

Awesome. I'll download it from the quislings post-haste. No reason to suck up your bandwidth, eh? May as well let UBRS foot the bill.

Mein gott, respecting the wishes of a dev-team has never been so strenuous! Staring at those download links was brutal, let me tell you.

You know, I'd never heard of UBRS until I read Kapt. Lehmann's post. A quick google search turned up the links. The last couple of days I've felt like Job: "You see, Satan? I can give him the download link myself, and he'll just sit there and suffer!"

Got the links as I donated to this forum some time ago. But still havn't got all the files! Now the links are dead & the speed on file front makes a 56K seem fast. 8 hours to down load one bin file. Would be cheaper to buy it. :damn: Proabaly will have to wait until everyone else has got it now. Maybe in 6 months when the servers quiten down..........
