Is it possible at all to enjoy the game with voice command as I found out that the AI is TOO good at interpreting my speech order .
For example: "Make your speed 8 knots" gets translated into:
Make turns for 8 knots. Turn Left bearing 009 degrees. Surface surface surface. All ahead flank.
I want that man shot:damn:.
I tried playing with the speech recognition settings and it just helps a bit. Yes it works more than 75-85 percent of the time but when the 30% happens it's very frustating.
Yes I already trained the software for about 6-7 pronounciation sessions.
Maybe it's just my poor accent?
Go to fire control usually doesn't work too:damn: Sometimes it works flawlessly in other cases my crew gets very innovative or having pretty severe hearing problem(those live depth charges use on excercises have taken its toll??).
And no it's not my microphone. My microphone is fine I mean it's not in the cheapest category. And I have learned not to have it set to always on.....the hard way

You might try using a 3rd party speech program.
Years ago I used to flight sim with one. Despite being able to program all your comms on joystick, it did increase immersion to issue your commands verbally to your squadmates and voice responses back.

Hei Markshot do you happen to know any good ones? I mean free good ones:rotfl:?
Using the Microsoft's speech recognition program in Microsoft office does wonder to your life.....try it if you haven't

I think the one which I used to use was called Game Commander. I thought there was a free and pay version.
Part of the problem with such program is feed back looks between mic commands and the game acknowledgements through the speakers. So, if you really want these things to run smoothly the work best using a mic and head phones.
For sub play, I think the pace of play and number of commands is limited enough that the keyboard/mouse is fine.
I don't fly anymore these days, but I do have a programmable keyboard which is use for other games. It can be very convenient. When I was playing SH3, it was convenient having or the sonar commands all close together in one tight keypad.
I do use voice commands on MS Flight Simulator (via the third party add on, Vox ATC) for the air traffic control, as it is much more realistic, but with Dangerous Waters I found that you could let out a sigh and find yourself surfacing by mistake, so I turned it off.

I use Vista and Mircosoft speech engine (the one that came on the disk) and have almost ZERO problems.

Hi everyone I just found out that I need to replace the language option to US instead. Now it works like a charm.
Headphone set. Yea that is smart. I don't use the always on option and it's fine.
Now I'm a lazy bum when playing DW. No way I'm getting my hands dirty with the sonar and TMA. I just want to command my sub. LOL. This is my first time trying this feature so be considerate:rotfl:.
Now the problem lies not on the voice command but on that stupid TMA autocrew which just keeps on changing his solution wildly.....I wasted lots of torpedoes because I was relying on him. This particular crew is not qualified to serve on submarine. Oh no another complaint.
I've found that the AI solution will get more consistent when the range drops down. So I guess human still have the upperhand in long range solution making.

I use a headset that has electrodes to measure brain wave activity, and I have it programmed to control mouse movements, keyboard inputs, and voice commands. So, I just play the game by thinking. A lot of innocent civilian ships perished when I first started using it. I have since learned to control my urges to blow things up.
...but that's just me.

I don't use the always on option and it's fine.Apart from the 'allways on' setting in DW options pannel you may want to check the sound volume settings (the Windows mixer: speaker icon in taskbar). If you can hear yourself breathe on the speakers you need to turn off the playback volume of the microphone signal (basically mute it). That eliminates feedback loops even further.

I have exactly that kind of device but I programmed it to George W Bush instead:rotfl:

i using voice commands most of the time. With no problems.
When i first tried to use the VCs i have had the same problems but i found an
easy solution.
Its possible to train the Microsoft Speech Engine. Somewhere in the options of XP
you can do that. I have done it several times and now i have no problems.
Only if im too far away from my microphone But then the Game Engine says "I do not understand that Command...."

Only use voice in single player in multiplayer with other people on my side makes it hard to communicate talking to two units at once plus cant always garentee the computer will recognise your command.

I used to play with VC for some time when DW came out, but when I turned to MP I quickly moved away from it as it might lead to bad situations when using for example TS with another player too ...
Other player : "I was sunk, you are on your own"
Myself : "Ah sh*t"
Computer (VC on) : "Aye Captain, Emergency Blow"
Still, its a nice feature and very useful once the engine is trained right.
Looks like you should use push to talk instead of voice activation in TS OneShot.

:know: Voice Command - bugget option.
Just not use it.

I tried using VC in Sub Command. For some reason it recognized every slight noise or whisper as the "go deep" command. I find it works somewhat as long as you try to explicitly pronounce each syllable, but the "go deep" thing was annoying for me.
I don't think I'll use it in DW, its more of just a toy anyway as I can do everything faster with the mouse.
Casting a spell of thread resurrection...
1. Can you change the game's pre-loaded voice commands? I've been perturbed by the "close but not quite" terminology match between standard Navy helm orders and the ones that the game uses.
2. I actually find the voice command's tendency to miss what you've said under stress or when you're talking fast is a good simulation of what can happen during a casualty. Sometimes people don't hear or hear the wrong thing. That's one reason why crews spend so much time training together and practicing standardized verbal commands.
Anyone remember the "Submarine Interior Communications" Manual?

Oh yeah what a bunch of fun, even when the crew does things when I said nothing???

<grin> Never said "fun". Said "good simulation". It is distinctly *not* fun to be in a flooding casualty or a fire and not understand what you need to do next. The heavy annoyance factor is a good reason to make Voice Command optional.
With DW, I use the speech key instead of "always on". Never had a problem with the crew doing things when I said nothing. My problems are forgetting the stock voice commands (b/c I'm used to similiar but different ones) and the computer misunderstanding what I say if I talk to fast.

Yep, that is the only way, or the thing must pickup any background noise and interprets it to be a valid command.
