Is it possible to add serious weather conditions? Moving fronts that can tip and sink ships, Uboats, anything even damage planes. You would sometimes receive a message stating a massive weather front moving from a to b and through f. You then have the choice to go around it and try to go through it. Having major waves and strong winds. These blips would show on the map similar to ships markers. Just its dangerous weather moving accross the ocean.

Could SH3 handle that?:hmm: Has anybody brought this up before or worked on it?

I'm curious. If possible it would be a cool addition to the game.:yep:

i think i should quote Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock (on Das Boot) "The sea cannot claim us, Henrich. No ship is as seaworthy as ours." If you cross a hurricane, tornado or whatever you might cross... just dive.

even tho it would add realism to the sim... i think that the standard weather of SH3 is already a tad on the "stormy" side.

Perhaps the Sh3 comander can do the markings in the maps. But I don't know. It's just an idea.

Hmmm not the answers I was hoping for. Either someone try to tackel it or its not possible within SH3.:hmm:

Thanks for your answer.

Hi!

As far as I know, the maximum in-game wind speed is 15 meters/second, or about 30 knots; by definition, a hurricane has wind speeds in excess of 32 meters/second (64 knots). I think you would have to modify the game engine and wave behavior to model the wind-wave interaction of hurricane-force winds.

I don't know if anyone has tried to create a "storm" environmental object and then tried to associate it with clouds, wind, and rain in its immediate vicinity.

Awhile ago, Col 777 or CB (I think, this was over a year or so ago) was working on something called a Big Wave mod. I played around with his settings, did a lot of testing and pm'ing back and forth and it was possible to create very very large waves at the 15 m/s winds. The problem was once a certain threshold had been crossed everything from small merchants, DD's and escorts up to C2 cargo's were sinking. The ship models it turned out were not capable of surviving such large wave action for very long. The U boat on the other hand survived just fine.

Hurricanes are already in game aren't they..............
There always seems to be one battering me everytime I get into the North Atlantic and they go on and on and on for bl00dy days!.:rotfl:
I know the settings can be tweaked though IIRC.

max windspeed I ever encountered was 15.

I still have no idea what unit of speed they had in mind??? 15 what? 15 m/s? 15 at beaufort scale? 15 elbonian miles/half a minute???

But it ONLY feels like a regular northatlantic bad weather :hmm:
Hurricane should be a bit more ??

Yes alot more.:yep: I'm not saying this major storm will should happen all the time in the game but it would be cool to have a weather front moving in and if your caught unaware. That could be fun to ride it. Anyhow SH3 is limited. Ingame storms are ok. I'm sure one day someone will figure something out.:hmm: If large ship sink well, c'est la vie.:smug:
