It's been my hunch that those messages are coded somewhere to occur at a specific depth. Same depth as Sh3. Since subs in SH4 don't dive that deep - we never hear them.
So then... max out the crash depth on your sub for 265 meters or so? :88)

I think the reason we don't have voices is because of the phrases .dat files. I'm fairly sure that is where the problem lies. I made an intersesting discovery in those files.

Fixes like this and the 'destroyer in attack run' will add a lot to the game. Really hope you manage to crack these little gems nvdrifter!
Interior damage sounds also -I can't believe this was (again!) neglected in the latest patch. Seems that Ubi must have the devs on a very tight leash.
Why your leash statement is most likely true (all programmers are on a tight leash with their parent company (or should be)) perhaps the devs just knew that nvdrifter's genius would blaze through like the heat of a million suns ;)!
Surely the diving too deep message could be linked to say 10-25 feet above whatever your current crush depth might be (if damaged) to allow you time to level off before instant death? I don't know much about modding, just my idea.

Actually, the message plays at 580 feet. :hmm:

or 177 meters. When did the gauge in SH3 go from yellow to red? around 200 meters or there abouts? Trutfully, i dont remember WHEN the CE would say "were diving too deep sir" but i vaugely remember it being around 200 meters, which was annoying because most of the time in that game, we'd be down to anywhere between 240 and 270 meters.

Yes, you are right. So the magic number we should all be looking for is probably 177. :yep:

Another question... Has anyone ever heard the hull creaking sounds while playing?

No trick question. I got the creaking sounds to play when diving deep. But honestly I don't remember if those interior sounds already play in the game or not.

Yup, but also depth related. Edit a balao to dive to 270 meters, you'll probably hear everything you used to in SH3.

While on creaking... I was just thinking, all these noises are the hull being deformed by the outside pressure, right? Well, lets say if I go deep and remain there, wouldn't the hull eventually deform all it's going to and the noises MOSTLY cease?
What I'm saying is I would expect the creaking when I initally take the sub to new depths, but then once the hull had accomodated the new pressure on it's walls. Shouldn't the vast amount of creaks stop?

Unless it is slowing crushing.

which it is, but not enough to actually crush the sub
to see it in all its 3d rendered graces, watch K-19 widowmaker with harisson ford, they show whats actually going on when the hull creaks.
and to finally answer your question ryanwigginton...
yes, in RL after the boats been under for a long time, the creaks would eventually fade out.
Now that the dynamics have been discussed, anyone any closer to getting it to work properly?

I made an interesting discovery. If I delete all the phrases .dat files, everything still plays normally- voices and all. Hmm... :hmm:

I have heard the diving too deep phrase but it has been a while. I was really deep and sinking slowly out of control (thanks to a plane). I was trying to blow the tanks but I couldn't get it back and the death screen soon followed.

Well, this isn't really 'it' yet. Sorry to disappoint. I found out what is controlling some of the crew voice responses to orders. But I still haven't found out what controls the other automatic voice responses. :damn:

Just got home so I thought I would offer some help.
I know I gave you some of the info I had on the phrases just wanted to see how your doing on it?!
I plan on doing some of it now that ROW is 1.4 compatable.
Want to exchange work and or idea's?
BTW did you notice that in the DC attacks the Radar and Sonar man duck every time a DC is droped?
So I am working on and idea to try and link them together with the phrase as soon as i figure out what trigers that animation.

Just wanted to let NVDrifter know that I am available to help now. I kind of droped all the info in his lap and didn;t explain things well.
But glad to be back and still kicking things around for the game and the comunity.

There's a few other animations that might be linked to sounds:
- helmsmen celebrating after enemy unit destroyed > cheers phrase
- chief engineer (possibly also helmsmen) wiping sweat off brow: seems to occur when the sub is nearing maximum depth > sigh phrase

Just like after the Sonar and radar guy ducks when a DC is droped the dive planesman stays in a ducked possition until the DC actualy goes off.
The problem is finding all the trigers then setting up new stuff for them on top of what is already there.
