please help with this:
Hi.
Just started to test 1.04. I always run at graphics settings ="High" and it works wonderful with 1.03 until now with 1.04.:hmm:
I have a NVIDIA 8800 GTX card, 4 gig ram and a Dell XPS710 with a quad 2.66 proc.
What I get is something that looks like golden St. Elmos Fire during dark hours..?
It follows the sides of the boat and when decks awash it looks as if the water turns in to molten metal....:88)

Other things like dignhys and life boats show the same thing. The water inside shines like gold. (plus slime green like below:-? )

Anyone seen this?
I run with basic "High" graphics on a clean SHIV1.04.
Regards
/Per

You say you are running on a clean version of 1.4, so what does this have to do with any mods? i.e., why are you cross-posting this?

Nice guy.
I'm having the same problem, and would like to find out why. I'm also having the horrible wierd gradient problem with the night sky with "Light Shafts" on. 8800GTX. :damn:

By all appearances it looks like the trouble is
that you all have "Daytime reflections" on your
nightime water.
odd really I thought the light treatment was the same
for both.

from the guys who replied, who does NOT have an 8800-version vid card? I have an 8800 GTS and I saw two GTX's there. Could it be an Nvidia bug?

Still there with the latest NV WHQL and Beta drivers. They fix one thing, and break another. I guess it's never going to be right. Now, after this patch, all the hard work the Mod guys did is pretty much FUBAR, likw the Sea Foam part of ROW, and now there is an ugly graphic problem. Plus, light shafts? Maybe it's just a LCD screen thing, but they look terrible and splotchy on my rig.
Sorry for the rant, but all this is getting to me. I really wanted to love this sim, but I'm losing it. Hurry up and give us U-Boats so those people will be placated, and it'll be over.:damn:

Guys this is a new feature in the game, there was a post here from one of the developers a few days back. If you want to go back to how 1.3 looked do a search for Foam Fix here, it is also posted on Longams Web Site .

Can't get into Longams web site (www.downbelow.net (http://www.downbelow.net)) keeps asking for authentification (username and password)..... could somebody please PM me the JSGME enabled file before I take out my service pistol and do the japs a huge favour?
EDIT: I got the file from filefront, built the file structure as it appears in the stock data file (Data/Shaders/Water) dumped that .fx file in there fired it up and JSGME liked it, so off I go!!!!!
EDIT PART 2 : Going back to the new shader file, this old one sends my FPS down the toilet...... oh well, it aint so bad....

I tried to fix the effect to be in a more acceptable level...if someone is interested to try it, the file is HERE (http://www.mediafire.com/?52ft8mitsbf)... it's JSGME ready.

Thanks for that..and I'm not trying to crack on the devs or anything. I think the "foam" looks great during daylight hours-(they have done tremendous work and SH4 is a work of art)- but in the dark it just glows too much.

So many mods overlap....it is difficult to keep the threads on this forum from doing so as well.
I am now wondering: Does the SH 1.4 Patch itself improve foam? Does it make the "Classic Foam" Mod and/or Jaketoox's "New Seafoam" Mod obsolete/unneccesary? It seems that the "Water_edge" Mod supercedes the recently released post 1.4 "foam hot fix" mod (it simply overwrites the single file "waterTranspPS.fx" file)
Will it suffice to just enable the latest Kriller "Water_Edge fix" Mod on top of 1.4? Or is it advisable to enable the Jake "New Seafoam" Mod and then the Water Edge mod?
Is anyone as confused as I am??? Maybe we need a Foam thread??

No confusion at all, just blow off the foam and drink the beer:arrgh!:

1.Does the SH 1.4 Patch itself improve foam?
Don't know if it will be rendered differently, but the graphics files seems to be quite similar compared to 1.3
2.Does it make the "Classic Foam" Mod and/or Jaketoox's "New Seafoam" Mod obsolete/unneccesary?
No.Unless you want stock foam. If you want the foam what is in ROW, you need one of those foams.
3.Water_edge_fix is made out of stock 1.4 file, and has nothing to do with seafoam, so you can use both on top of 1.4, in the order you want:up:
4.Don't be confused...do what Digital_Trucker just said....:rotfl:
