I'm sure the majority of you have seen my Engine of Destruction VIIC repaint:
http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/downloads/images/SWCs-EngineofDestruction7C.jpg

But I'm sure you've never seen her like this:
http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/bts-gallery/albums/userpics/eod-ghostsub.jpg

I still haven't set the opacity to how I'd like it just yet - frankly I think she could stand to get a little less visible, but it's my current work in progress.
The conning tower, torpedo tubes, snorkel, props, shafts, and railing still needs to be tweaked, but I'm getting there.

I'll keep yall updated as I get things done. This is JSGME ready and will work on all VIIC skins that you have enabled.

This is what I showed you from where I last left off:
http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/bts-gallery/albums/userpics/eod-ghostsub.jpg

Here's where I'm at now:
http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/bts-gallery/albums/userpics/eod-ghostsub2.jpg

In this shot you can see how I haven't touched the conning tower yet, nor have I found those stinking torpedo tubes or periscopes, but when I get the hull sorted out I'll find my bearings.

These are all original screenshots, the only thing I did to edit them was crop them and resize them to being 500 pixels wide. My screen is 1440x900; I doubt the admins here would appreciate those kinds of images being displayed at that resolution :rotfl:

I swear this conning tower must have 2 TGA's going for it, cause in the objects folder as I'm editing the Turm7c_hd.dat I have the opacity set to 150. The last shot I posted it was at 170 and I'm not noticing any changes whatsoever... :nope:

Moin,

IIRC the turm comes with 2 texture files. One of them is in the *.dat, the other one is referenced externally.

DD

DD if it's referenced externally what am I looking to edit? Where is it referenced to? :damn:

Moin,

i´ve checked the OBJECTS folder. It contains 4 Turm7c_X_hd.dat files. First off make sure you´re riding the correct turm. The turm.dat contains more than 2 texture files + one external reference. See picture below.

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x241/DivingDuck/SHIII/Opacity_Turm.jpg

The nodes you see are the 2/0 nodes belonging to the respective textures. They hold all information needed regarding the texture´s properties, such as opacity.

I've set all the opacities to 170 in the dat file. I checked my turm using the museum, it shows the 4th one being 40-41, everything else beyond that showed up as darker because I didn't adjust it yet.

I'm still getting lost on that external texture, you mean that's something outside of the dat file right?

Madox58

Yes, it is outside of the dat.
You have my Good Friend DivingDuck, and myself working to help you!
All is good!

Waaaaiiit a minute, now I get it... I think...
I'm using Silent 3ditor, what you show as config#EO1 shows as empty for me, but when it drops down I see that config#eo1 - so is that the puzzle piece that I have to adjust to get the opacity showing just right?

Madox58

Silent 3ditor seems to be OK for the most part.
But remember, it's a Beta and may not show everything,
nor work properly when doing "non-standard" things.

What DivingDuck and I do is work in Hex.
We read the Hex like most read a newspaper.

What seems simple to us, is usually like asking you to understand
Ancient Mayan Hyrogliphics!!
:damn:

I have your files and will adjust them as I stated would.

Now why are you letting that new bride alone?

She's alotted me X amount of minutes on the computer - we're still in the process of moving her stuff out of her parent's house and I can't do anything I want to do til we're outta here...

Glad you got those files, like I said, I'll trim that archive up a bit when I figure out what's needed and what isn't. Certainly appreciate your help on this guys, I'd still be dreaming about this without your guidance!!:know:

Give her my regards and permission to
slap you along side the head if need be!!
:rotfl:
This mod stuff can become addicting and lead
to trouble if your not careful!!
:nope:

She's already threatened to toss my laptop from our top floor apartment, she's trained me well.

I do my forum stuff while she's awake, but after hours are mine ;):D

After editing that eo1 junk I'm gonna dive in and see what I came up with...who knows, maybe I realigned myself :hmm: I'll post a screenshot of my results.

-SWCowboy.
11-29-07, 07:54 PM
Well it wasn't fruitless, but it wasn't the leaps and bounds I had hoped for...

The area boxed in blue was the only part it really had any effect on. :damn: So now I have to find out the piece of the conning tower below it.

http://www.beyond-the-shadows.org/bts-gallery/albums/userpics/eod-ghostsub3.jpg

Would it be reasonable to think that that part is located on another turm by chance? I guess what I'm asking is - is there a possibility of having 2 turms on the same year?

Madox58

Did you reset values for ALL tga's?
If you leave any un-altered they will not ghost.

-SWCowboy.
11-29-07, 08:08 PM
What does BRk_GLASS.tga have to do with anything? It's the only thing so far that I haven't reset.

What does file offset 0x00787e8c SHD do too? That's another thing I discovered I didn't adjust...

Pick.tga as well daggone I might as well sit here with a dunce cap on my head and point my chair in the corner :damn:

Ok all those are now at 150...that should do it - right?? :hmm:

-SWCowboy.
11-29-07, 08:18 PM
I noticed some effect on those changes but there's nothing significant. That lower part where I mentioned before that didn't change, what exactly is that thing linked to?
I think if I set its opacity to 0 it might work out better. :shifty:

Koondawg
11-29-07, 09:11 PM
Will it be water tight when you get done or will it leak?

-SWCowboy.
11-29-07, 09:16 PM
She still floats on the surface, doesn't spring any leaks at periscope depth, anything that does come up I'll have Sulu take the helm and Scotty can fix it

Madox58

To tell the truth?
DivingDuck is way better with sub related stuff!
Listen to him, and you will be amazed!!!
Ref might even comment.
And if those two to get going?
They confuss me, so take notes!!!

I cant wait...i can :o see it now...

It's early in the war, December '40 we have come upon a large task force in the middle of the Atlantic. After hours of dodging, diving, duckin, and dipping we finally
put the last ship safely in Davy jones locker...so we celebrate by pulling along side one another for some screenies...and all I see is Bernards white ass in the crapper :hmm:
Im moving to Kiel....gotta wash and repaint the boat after this one....:rotfl:

Wow! What a truly original idea!

I must say...I don't like most of your skins that much (can you take that? hope so), because I usually go for the "realistic/historical" ones.
But this is a nice idea.
Imagine having a entire see-through uboat...great to show your kids (if you have any), and explain how the thing works.

-SWCowboy.
11-30-07, 12:34 PM
Paajtor I just offer up stuff that's original and unique - I don't mind if some people don't like it, that's the nature of art. Can't please everyone, might as well please yourself
This mod is universal for the VIIC boats, it'll work on my skins, Koondawg's, Fubar's, anyone who's ever painted a VIIC. ;) Hell it'll even work on the stock boat too.

As soon as I've moved into my new apartment and get everything settled I'll have more time to devote to this. That damn conning tower is still getting on my nerves though... :damn:

Moin SWCowboy,

if setting all the values to 150 does not work on some parts, it seems to me as if there is an additional texture that is addressed but not contained in the turm.dat. Check the turm 3d object´s properties node (4/100) to see, which of the textures are adressed. If you don´t succeed, you can send me the file(s) in question, and I´ll check them for you.

I'm moving into a new apartment so this'll be put on hold til I get my internet setup. I might be able to sneak in at work but I doubt that'll help.
Gonna fiddle with this some more in my off-time - maybe work on a few new skins here and there, I'll be back on in a more permanent situation in 9 days, maybe less if the AT&T guy installs it quicker

I'll be back. ;)
