I just bought a new system and I have a question. I have heard many mentions of a high res version of this game out there and even seen some screen shots. I tried looking on the search engine but no luck. Could someone tell me what is needed to be done either here or in a pm to see if my system can handle it?

Yep search for a little programm by satori. All ya need is in the zip file its real simple to install. If that dosnt work theres another one with the same files but a bit more involved to setup by Keygety I think

High rez is describing the different sizes and details of the TGA file used to skin the models.
Example,NSS_Uboat7c_hull.tga is the file that skin mapping the Type 7c main hull. Low rez I believe is 512x512 size, High rez is 1024x1024 and some of us use super high rez 2048x2048 for better details and quality on the eye. Smaller the size the more blurry the image is ingame. less pixels details and faster on the system because less work for the computer. All my work is in 2048 but I give both high resolutions. So if you want to compare see my pic.

SH3 comes with the first 2 resolutions. Skinners make the better qualities for those who wants them.

Common issues with high res.

Some systems will have longer load times when loading ingame with higher resolutions.
I don't know what happens while playing a game with those who have slower systems using high rez's?

I hope that helps give you an idea.

If you want to change your res you will need a fix. Look here to find out more:

While TJ's option will work, I prefer not to muck about using the MS ACT program.;)

Provided you are running XP + SP2, this is the easiest resolution fix available.

http://files.filefront.com/SH3+XPSP2+Res+Fix+for+14bzip/;7588690;/fileinfo.html

However, the is still no widescreen support, so your dials & crew may get a little 'squashed' if you are applying this to a widescreen monitor.

In the downloaded archive you have:

d3d9.cfg
Readme.txt
SHIII.sdb
SP2 Rez Fix Uninstall.bat
SP2 Rez Fix.bat

Copy ALL of these into the SH3 Program Folder.

1) Run SP2 Rez Fix.bat
2) Then open d3d9.cfg & set the resolution & screenshot path.

That's it, your finished.

Enjoy SH3 in all it's glory.

Opps, migjt be a problem for me than. My old system died and just upgraded and now I am running with Vista. Will these work with Vista or is there a different way to go about it?

There is a no go for vista for the rezfix.
Vista was boring in general. I could not see any advantage at all.
I stepped back to XPProSP2 and now I am happy again with my PC.
