I was looking around and finding ways to improve my work. I try to make U-boat colours more realistic. So I ask myself what paints did they use. Did they use primer? Why 2 different of colours, one for upper and one for lower hull?
How would rust effect this or weathering?

So digging around I don't know if others have posted this but I'm posting some sites I've found so others can benefit from this knowledge.

This site deals with surface ships camo patterns and article written by Daniel H. Jones

Wanadoo site for U-boat colours and markings.

More later.

If anyone has sites please feel free to post them.

Yes these colors look good. I could see some nice paint jobs on the VIIB, VIIC boats with the 1941 Operation Rheinubung

I have a PDF at home called Uboat_Colours.pdf and it gives you the actual colour references used. I'll upload it when I'm home.

In the mean time, here is the Subsim research (old sticky, since archived) thread. It should have some information that's useful.

Ooo, I've found the PDF.

Get it here - http://files.filefront.com/uboat+colourspdf/;9146495;/fileinfo.html

This PDF is the best source I have ever seen for historic/accurate Uboat Colours.
