Looking at photos of us submarine bases, I see something that is lacking in our little simulated world. Other US subs either docked or comming in from missions, or training duties.

I just gave a shot at adding subs to pearl, and had to imeadiately stop. Reason? I have no idea where the docking facilities are. Mission editor does not show the bases, just a cross at the base location.

Is there a way to get the editor to render the layout of the base so one can place stationary vessles?

I want to contribute to the comunity, and this was one area I thought I could work with.

Also, both the Japanese mini sub, and Sen Toku sub do not move even if the mission editor shows them as moving. Are these just dead stationary targets?

Just a word of caution, if you want to have NPC US subs, you'll probably have to clone them. In SH3 there was a weird bug where if you use player subs as AI units, the dials and such would be frozen at the 12 O clock position.

That and if for example, you place a gato down as harbor traffic (which as associated nodes and such), and the player starts as a gato (with the exact same associated nodes and such), weird things could happen. I wouldnt be surpised if it CTD'd.

In fact, I would 'recommend' to clone them. You can then strip the subs down from unnecessary nodes/data, and using a smart setup allow to have multiple configurations. Tater and DeepIron worked this out some time ago for ships in general.

In SH3, privateer made an announcement of working on AI-subs that were able to dive/surface/attack. But for home ports, static subs or subs that act as surface ships would work ok too... Or docked subs with a conning tower refit etc... You need clones for that for sure...
