:o You's printing an awful lot, lady.

Nope, I just like to have the next round of cartridges on hand and ready to go.

Just ordered: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2 GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 100312-3L

My handy dandy measuring tape tells me it will fit, altho it may take a degree in Advanced Cable Management to make it happen. :P

Just brought some DVD's and a new shiny 3D Blue ray player and few other things. Hope you get your slice Neal.

Thanks!!

Just ordered Peter Padfield: Maritime Power and Struggle For Freedom: Naval Campaigns that Shaped the Modern World 1788-1851 and
Maritime Dominion: Naval Campaigns that Shaped the Modern World, which covers 1852 to the present day. Total cost with shipping was about $20.

I also pre-ordered the reissued volume of R.A. Burt's British Battleships of World War One. It's not due for release until September 15, so I wouldn't expect it to show up until after that date.

I see the Burt, but not the Padfield. Thanks, Steve! :salute:

British Battleships: Warrior, 1860 to Vanguard, 1950. A History of Design, Construction and Armament, by Oscar Parkes. A very used copy, for $120. Better copies start at about twice that and new copies run upwards of a thousand dollars. I got the cheapest one I could. They say it's in good shape. We'll see. I only hope it has the kind of detail I need.

This week I ordered and received qty 2 air filters @ ~$46 ea.
Total order $94.change (or thereabouts - don't have it open in front of me).

This should be the first of several orders over the next couple months, and it's a great way to support the cause. No way I can keep up with some of the senior officers around here, though...

Thanks for the great work keeping this place kicking.

A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's . . . Dodger.

Target verified, thank you!

Well, I was gonna go to the mall this weekend... but then I thought about it for ten seconds and said "screw that, I haz internet." :O: I've gotten so bad that I actually ordered something online from a store that is literally RIGHT DOWN THE STREET.

OTOH it was fifteen minutes on their web site vs. a couple hours in the store, slogging through row after row of merchandise and dodging other shoppers and screaming children and... so... yeah.

The last one I had was wood, except it was actually particle board - wood dust and paste, with a wood-grain wallpaper covering. Thing weighed a ton. This one is metal frame and heavy duty safety glass. It's a corner desk with and extra side for my books. :D

The original. Only 6" x 6". I thought it would be too small two years ago, so I bought the big "family size" one. It doesn't have removable plates and it's too big to fit in the kitchen sink. This small one should be perfect for me.

Send an email to everybody, and mention the numbers. I really did not know that it is so much, and maybe many people know about the deal, but think it is too minor as if their participation would make any difference at all: "These Texan oil barons all are millionairs, so if I order that bundle of items for 50 dollars, what use could it have for Neal to earn 20 cents from that?" :D

Lol - what I get is brand new, sealed in the manufacturer's package - basically the exact same thing I would be getting if I went to a local retailer to buy it. Except I don't have to go to the store and search through racks and racks of different stuff to find the package with the right size, style, and color.

C'mon - it's sold by Amazon, fulfilled by Amazon, and shipped by Amazon. It's not like I'm buying it from Creepy Bob's Online Underwear Emporium.

TBH I'm far more creeped out at the idea of buying something like that from, say, Walmart, where what you buy might have been on public display in a freaking WALMART for weeks or months where anybody and everybody who walked by could pick it up, poke their fingers through the plastic, etc.

You won't believe these people.... Go and see for yourself. :rotfl2:

Amazon is kinda known for having some hilarious reviews for certain products. But if you don't know where to look, you never find them.

Some of the more infamous ones:

Uranium Ore (http://www.amazon.com/Images-SI-Inc-Uranium-Ore/dp/B000796XXM/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1)

"I purchased this product 4.47 Billion Years ago and when I opened it today, it was half empty."

"The quality of this Uranium is on par with the stuff I was bying from the Libyans over at the mall parking lot, but at half the price! I just hope the seller does not run out, because I have many projects on my list including a night vision sasquatch radar, an electromagnetic chupakabra cage, a high velocity, aerial, weighted Mothman net and super heated, instant grill cheese sandwhich maker."

Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz (http://www.amazon.com/Tuscan-Whole-Milk-Gallon-128/dp/B00032G1S0/ref=cm_lmf_tit_2)

"He always brought home milk on Friday.

"After a long hard week full of days he would burst through the door, his fatigue hidden behind a smile. There was an icy jug of Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz in his right hand. With his left hand he would grip my waist - I was always cooking dinner - and press the cold frostiness of the jug against my arm as he kissed my cheek. I would jump, mostly to gratify him after a time, and smile lovingly at him. He was a good man, a wonderful husband who always brought the milk on Friday, Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz.

"Then there was that Friday, the terrible Friday that would ruin every Friday for the rest of my life. The door opened, but there was no bouyant greeting - no cold jug against the back of my arm. There was no Tuscan Whole Milk in his right hand, nor his left. There came no kiss. I watched as he sat down in a kitchen chair to remove his shoes. He wore no fatigue, but also no smile. I didn't speak, but turned back to the beans I had been stirring. I stirred until most of their little shrivelled skins floated to the surface of the cloudy water. Something was wrong, but it was vague wrongness that no amount of hard thought could give shape to.

"Over dinner that night I casually inserted, 'What happened to the milk?'

"'Oh,' he smiled sheepishly, glancing aside, 'I guess I forgot today.'

"That was when I knew. He was tired of this life with me, tired of bringing home the Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz. He was probably shoveling funds into a secret bank account, looking at apartments in town, casting furtive glances at cashiers and secretaries and waitresses. That's when I knew it was over. Some time later he moved in with a cashier from the Food Mart down the street. And me? Well, I've gone soy."

How To Avoid Huge Ships (http://www.amazon.com/Avoid-Huge-Ships-John-Trimmer/dp/0870334336/ref=cm_lmf_tit_16)

"I bought How to Avoid Huge Ships as a companion to Captain Trimmer's other excellent titles: How to Avoid a Train, and How to Avoid the Empire State Building. These books are fast paced, well written and the hard won knowledge found in them is as inspirational as it is informational. After reading them I haven't been hit by anything bigger than a diesel bus. Thanks captain!"

And let us not forget...

The Mountain Three Wolf Moon Short Sleeve Tee (http://www.amazon.com/The-Mountain-Three-Short-Sleeve/dp/B002HJ377A/ref=cm_lmf_tit_3)

"This item has wolves on it which makes it intrinsically sweet and worth 5 stars by itself, but once I tried it on, that's when the magic happened. After checking to ensure that the shirt would properly cover my girth, I walked from my trailer to Wal-mart with the shirt on and was immediately approached by women. The women knew from the wolves on my shirt that I, like a wolf, am a mysterious loner who knows how to 'howl at the moon' from time to time (if you catch my drift!). The women that approached me wanted to know if I would be their boyfriend and/or give them money for something they called mehth. I told them no, because they didn't have enough teeth, and frankly a man with a wolf-shirt shouldn't settle for the first thing that comes to him.

"I arrived at Wal-mart, mounted my courtesy-scooter (walking is such a drag!) sitting side saddle so that my wolves would show. While I was browsing tube socks, I could hear aroused asthmatic breathing behind me. I turned around to see a slightly sweaty dream in sweatpants and flip-flops standing there. She told me she liked the wolves on my shirt, I told her I wanted to howl at her moon. She offered me a swig from her mountain dew, and I drove my scooter, with her shuffling along side out the door and into the rest of our lives. Thank you wolf shirt.

"Pros: Fits my girthy frame, has wolves on it, attracts women
Cons: Only 3 wolves (could probably use a few more on the 'guns'), cannot see wolves when sitting with arms crossed, wolves would have been better if they glowed in the dark."

Well Steve,

I find the higher thread counts hold up much longer.
So don't buy the Wal-Mart sheets if you plan a long useage life.

Tossing and turning also impact the life time so you may need to adjust for that.

frau kaleun
02-13-13, 06:47 PM
Well, here's what happened.

I sleep with an eye mask because it's the only way I can get to sleep and stay asleep all night. (Also earplugs, not that THEY do much good in the current environment. :stare:)

Over the past couple of years I've been trying out different masks trying to find one that did the job, was comfortable, and didn't start to wear out after a couple months.

I bought one a while back and have been using it for a while. It seemed to be meeting all the criteria. Then I woke up one morning this week and found dark stains all over my pillowcases, which had bled all the way through those and through the pillow protectors right down to the pillows themselves. It took some headscratching but I finally realized that they were coming from the mask somehow. Went back to Amazon, where I bought it, and saw that someone else had reported the exact same problem.

End result, I'm going back to the Bucky eye mask, since I'd rather buy a new eyemask 3-4 times a year than new bedding every week. :O:

Well, I needed new pillows anyway, and I'm pretty sure that most of what I have on the bed now is ruined due to the mask, so I decided to bite the bullet and replace everything as soon as the new mask arrives.

I'm still in the "looking" stage. That kind of fell off over the winter, as it got too dark too early to drive around after work and look at anything, plus with the holidays and everything - bah. I am pre-approved for a loan (or pre-pre-approved, whatever) so I have the piece of paper from the bank to prove to people that I am indeed a Serious Potential Buyer.

And as it happens one of my former co-workers is coming back to work for us part-time, and during her time away from our practice she became a licensed real estate agent and did that from home while raising her kids. I just need to get with her and see what she needs once I get a list together of places I want to look at.

I haven't gone anywhere, and I haven't gone anywhere near any lines. It was a perfectly innocent comment on the amount of sheets and pillowcases purchased. I only own one set of sheets, and that's all I will own until they fall apart.

You don't really have to read innuendo into every single comment.

Seems like you can't buy a decent backpack in stores anymore...
I've been using the same backpack for years. I got it for free at a VA meeting. It's very basic but it's almost square and it's perfect for runs to the grocery store, since I still don't have a car. It will hold four boxed pizzas, or one pizza and extra stuff, or a gallon of milk and a 2-liter bottle of Dr. Pepper. It will hold three boxes of cereal. It will also hold a very large reference book when I want to take the newest one to game night to show to my friends.

It developed a tear last year, and I still kept usng it until it finally got so bad stuff was in danger of falling out. I looked everywhere, and everybody wanted $30-45 for a decent pack. Finally I was at a Wal*Mart a couple of weeks ago and found one for $15. It's big enough to hold a pizza box but it has little compartments and can't hold nearly as much stuff as the old one.

I got so frustrated I finally went on Amazon, and found the very same one I'd had for all those years, for the price in the link. I jumped to Subsim and back to Amazon. Some things are just perfect for the job. Now I need to get a car. :sunny:

What, are you moving or something? :O: :D

Oh gods I certainly hope so. It's gonna be a real PITA if I don't as I've already got about as much packed as I can manage until I've actually got some place else to move it to, there's no room left to stack any more boxes.

Last round of documents from the bank set the closing date for next Thursday but I have not heard anything since providing the last bit of additional info they requested and that was two weeks ago. About 10 days ago I mailed back some hard copies of stuff they sent me, which were duplicates of stuff I'd already gotten via email and signed and faxed about a week prior to that.

I'm assuming that since they aren't contacting me constantly asking me to verify, explain, or update anything that things are proceeding smoothly. At least I will have plenty of time to get moved once I have the place, right now it's just a lot of hurry up and wait.

Moving's one thing, but who on earth needs eight fruit bowls?

They double as dessert bowls and match the 8 place settings I'm getting at 50% off from Macy's on account of I stumbled onto a sale I didn't know they were having until it was almost over so instead of waiting to buy new dishes I went ahead and ordered them while they were on sale. But Amazon still had better prices on the fruit bowls.

I know Fiesta ware is pretty durable but this isn't my nearly unbreakable 20 yr old Corelle ware, knowing how I am in the kitchen with any luck I'll still have 4 complete settings after a year or so. :O:

A Canon eh?

Don't recall what model the 'ink guzzling' Canon was at work but I replaced it recently with an Epson model (can't remember the exact one) and already it is outperforming its predecessor in the ink stakes.

Mind you, Lexmark is even more outrageous...cheaper to buy a new printer than replace the inks :)

Mine is an HP 2050. It was cheap enough that it would be cheaper to buy a new one than replace the ink, if not for those cheap refilled ones. Every time I install one the printer asks if I'm aware I'm using an unofficial replacement cartridge. So far I haven't had a problem with any of them.

I've gone through three black cartridges so far this year, but I have yet to replace the color cartidge. There is only one color cartridge, which is one of the reasons I stick with HP despite their annoying attempts to get me to spend twice as much to be 'official'. :O:

On mine the red runs out first, followed by the yellow, then the blue, the large black tank, then the small black tank, which hardly ever runs out. I usually go through 2 or 3 reds per 1 small black one. That is why I have so many of those as spares, they come with the 4 color pack.

A friend of mine uses a lot of ink and has a bulk ink system connected to his printer and despite the initial outlay he swears it pays dividends in the medium to long term but that obviously will depend on the usage.

Oh, I'm not gonna get rid of all the novelty glasses. My favorite juice glass is one from a series of Apollo space program commemorative glasses that was given away as a promotion years ago, probably by some gas station back when they still used to do those things. Apparently there was one glass for each mission. I found a bunch of them in an antiques mall and bought them. Not a whole set, I had duplicates of several of them, but I used them a lot just for myself. Oddly enough the only ones that have survived intact are a couple of the Apollo 13 ones. :haha:

So I'll still drink out of the goofy glasses when I'm by myself and just want a drink by the computer or near where I'm working on something. I just won't have to pass them out to guests.

Altho I've always thought it would be fun just to buy goofy mismatched novelty tableware and set the table with it for guests... but knowing me, finding the "perfect" goofy set of mismatched but still meaningful stuff would take longer than just buying a nice matching set that I really like. :O:

Edit: the last time I went to an antiques mall with my sister, someone had all these glasses for sale (probably another promotion from some gas station or restaurant) with Looney Tunes characters on them. If I could've found one each in the same size with, say, eight of my favorite characters, I totally would've bought them. But I couldn't put together a whole set in any size from what they had for sale. I was totally bummed.

I got a B in Art Class. At church camp last year, I was known as the kid who got a B in Art by the Crafts Direcotor. I'm not an art person. I can't do much decorative or arts/crafts type of stuff. When I'm settled in on something that I can concentrate on, I get it done.

I've been told that I "walk with a purpose..." Not sure if compliment or not though. :hmmm:

I've never understood why some men are so opinionated where women are concerned, especially "men" who haven't had time to experience the world, and most of their opinions they got from someone else.

It's a funny thing. I have a couple of huge "coffee-table" books with giant pictures from outer space. I don't have a coffee table to put them on, and I doubt I would if I did have one. I build model airplanes for the love of building them. The ones that aren't in a gaming box are sold or given away. I really don't have anything decorative displayed anywhere. I have a couple of diecast cars that stay in their boxes in a drawer, mainly to save me from the temptation to take them apart and refinish them "properly". I don't even have my guitars on display. The ones that I don't play every day are in their cases in my bedroom.

That's not defending men, because many of us do have our decorative side. It's just my observation on my own sorry self.

I suddenly realized that my tiniest 1/32" drill bit was nowhere tiny enough for the ships I plan on building. I saw a set of 1/64" bits, 12 for only six bucks (plus another six for shipping), and who knows when they would get here. I probably only need half of the bits in this set, and I already have a pin vise that's better than this one promises to be, but the whole set was cheap and it will be here in two days. :sunny:

That was the one downside of that desk - no holes for wire mgmt. But all the ones that had them, I didn't like at all and they wouldn't have suited my preferred setup nearly as well. This one does save me having to buy or construct something to sit the computer on and gives me sufficient space on that lower shelf for everything else that needs to go somewhere out of the way but still be easily accessible.

Fortunately the hole saw is "multi-construction" which means it will work on just about anything, judging by the description. I'll just have to find a lot of things to drill 2" holes in so I can recoup my investment. :O:

Now I need to find a case to store all the tools I have that I'll never need again. :haha:

Well, I do have a toolbox, but since it's been my only storage for everything tool/hardware related that was small enough to fit in there, it's filled with all the extra nails, screws, nuts, bolts, and other tiny bits of hardware I've accumulated over the years. So I guess once I figure out where in the garage to store those, I can put more actual tools in the toolbox.

Sailor Steve
05-09-13, 09:31 PM
They make special boxes just to store that kind of stuff, with little drawers and everything. This frees up the toolbox to store just tools. Then once everything is properly stored in its place you can spend all day searching and saying "I was sure I had one of those!" That way you can finally give up and go buy another one, just so you can look for the perfect place to store it, right next to the other one that was already there!

I have much exerience with this sort of thing. :sunny:

Yeah, the top of my tool box actually has a bunch of those little compartments with separate lids that snap down over top of them. It's come in real handy over the years, the lids are clear so I can see what I've got. Still have boxes of nails and anchors and whatnot in the bottom of the box, though. Those I'll need to get storage for in the garage if possible.

I'm a hardware hoarder, I've never taken anything apart and thrown it away without saving any and all hardware on it that looked like it might be useful at some time in the future. Usually if I need some little something for a project I find I've already got something suitable.

I also see that people still look at people under 21 as children. :hmmm:

I look at my Son who is 36 years old as a child at times. It's what older folks do best!
:D

Exactly. When my daughter, who is married and has two of her own is still my "baby", how do I look at someone who is half her age?

On the other hand, I remember well being your age, and looking back from a great distance I'm amazed at how little I actually understood at that age. My response was to the fact that the comment I responded to did indeed seem to me to be a little childish. Don't let that put you off, though, I've done the same myself many times. I don't tease people I don't respect. I either get really serious or I just ignore them.

It doesn't interest me at all what Jim and Privateer tell the missus and what they don't tell her.
Then why post at all, especially when you've never purchased anything from Amazon through the Subsim link? When you got involved, and it was funny, and they responded in kind.

I'm reminded of an experience from years ago (brace yourselves for an old fart story!). My late friend Dick the Crazy Ranger was a very tough hombre. One day we were joking about tough things and I told him to watch out or I'd sic my mom on him. Dick straightened his back, stuck his chin out and said "I'm not afraid of any woman!" I said my mom was pretty tough herself, and Dick got even more hostile about it. The fact is my mom was 5'2" tall and weighed 98 pounds, but he just didn't get the joke.

That seems to be the case here. The fact is that you are accepted, so don't worry about it. Jeff gave you permission to use his real name, which means a lot. Take it in stride, or stay out of it. You can't have it both ways.

First.
You can call me Jeff. That's my name and privateer is my "'net name".

Second.

Well Jeff, you got me on the first and third ones.

I only care to post...but I don't care what you do at home. It's your house so do what you want. Tell the Missus whatever or don't tell her whatever.

I only care to a certain extent. :)

Mostly small stuff, but among the larger stuff I bought today included a 36 pack of Kleenex (allergies have been tough this year) and some AmazonBasics rechargeable AAs (are they as good as Eneloops? I suppose I'm about to find out...). Hopefully I entered my purchase correctly to give Subsim credit.

Ok, it only took almost 2 years for my first post. I guess post #2 will come sometime... in 2015. [dives the boat, resumes lurking]

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

You can't lurk now! You have committed yourself to using Subsim for your Amazon purchases. Now you have to report every purchase so Neal can keep track. In other words, we have you now and you can never escape! :O:
