Does anyone has been able to use the TWIN 40mm Flack Gun without any CDT's problems?

I can install it changing the information on the ..\Data\UPCData\UPCUnitsData\UpgradePacks.Upc file, which has the following text:

With this text the weapon would never show up on the upgrade option list mainly because of the functional type is a flack weapon (FunctionalType= UpFTypeWeaponFlak) but the upgrade slot type is a deck gun option (UpgradePackSlotType= USDeckGun).

If I change the text to read:

The weapon will be available since the beggining and I can install it on a Gato sub with the late or elite conning tower, it will show up on the sub, I can allocate the crew members for the fore and stern slots (in the game only show one crew member managing the gun), and I can play without any problem until I find an aircraft. When that happens and I order the crew to manage the flak gun and shoot down the plane the game allways crash (CDT).

Does anyone knows how to solve this problem and use the gun on the sub ????

existing solutions.

i moddified the files to get this to work several weeks ago but cant remember the files in question, i do know however that the game never CTD's but i've never seen 2 guys on deck even though i put 2 in the gun slots. i dont use this setup for game play i just like fiddling with files :D

i also believe you need to change one of the other files to make it work without the CTD i'll have a look see.

Below is what i've changed in my Balao file to get 40mm twins in the AA slots
personally its a bit mad so i prefer to use bow and stern 5.25's and twin 20's hehehehe.

here is a bit out of the balao upc file within upcunitsdata folder, think this is what your missing.

yeah I did all that I have to grab a clean version of the files
and start from scratch again.

I tried the textmodding approach and only got so far.

I can use the twin 40 in a surface engagement no problem

the gun will manifest in game fine

the animation will start to track towards the aircraft
and at the firing point it will ctd.
thats when its on an AA mount

when I do it on a DG mount the crew comes out when you
call the dg crew you can man the dg version and shoot at
the aircraft no problem.

but when you leave the gun it wont track
next when you man the aa guns and order the aa guns
to fire then both the aa and the dg version track together
towards the target but again ctd at the firing point

I tried the type change in s3d and no good

I am clearly missing something and its really getting under my
skin.

I could use a good s3d end user with experience for a little guidance
someone with familiarity with the weapons eqp upgradepacks interconnectivity too.

I am still confident that theres a solution but I havent found it yet.

Im hoping your details will turn up something I missed though.

No sadly I didnt get pics of the twin set up but I can ive been into and
out of the test mission forty odd times in two days.
trying to do the functionality at this point though, press photos were
going to wait until there was a story.

Oh i dont know about the Ducimus evil float planes... i've come to love them... especially when my flak crew shred em with the twin 20mm's hehehehe

joking aside i dive when i get the radar guy shouting.. "Bloodyhell here comes another one of those evil Ducimus planes, bearing *** degrees!" :rotfl:i'd rather not risk the guys on deck especially as the damn planes shoot up ya decking and drop nasty bombs on ya heads :rotfl::rotfl:

i will have to look see if i altered anything else because my guys track planes and shoot as soon as i leave the gun (if the plane is in range) and i get no ctds at all.

i put this in the post where i put the other changes but i'll put it here too this is also in the unitparts3balao.upc file

if its on my balao it will be late 43... i may however have altered the conning tower to late model, buggered if i can remember now but i know i get no problems with the tower/guns or ctds with the items marked in red, only problem is i only ever see one crewman at the gun even with 2 shown in the crew slots.

i've taken out the sub and shot at planes myself and switched to conning tower view and seen streams of gunfire from both guns on my selected target so go figure.

hope that helps.

maybe i'm not clear on where they are mounted... both twin 40's are in the AA positions

Every time someone mentions planes in TM, i cackle with sadistic glee.

They WERE an utter joke before. Easily avoided, didnt do much damage, radar made them all but innefectual, and just generally a pest. Shoo fly, shoo!

Now, even with radar, they are dangerous, and the threat they present is at more realistic level as compared to before. Not 100% realistic, but alot further in that direction.

IF they arent dangerous, why have them in the game? That was my thought. Before, there was simply no reason they existed except to annoy. Now, they give an "oh s**t!" reaction! :lol:

Those twin 40MM, ohhh I can see Mush's uberboat now. Be interesting seeing the matchup later on, although i know the twin 40's will win ;)

I'm afraid I'm having no problem with your planes Duci. I decided to try TM 175 with RSRD for TM 221 and have had no problems in my Balao with dual single 40s, I've got quite a number of planes shot down and they've barely scratched the paint.

And as for Mush's SH4 variant of the Uberboat...well, stop thinking twin 40s...think dual quad 40s and whatever deck guns he decides to mount...

What I dont understand is why we dont crank all the AI up to Jedi for
every IJN unit across the boards.

Uberbootish type behaviour and projects are something for later
I have other projects ahead of it on the priority list atm.
and I am still sailing for the moment. inspite of all this other stuff
I still intend to fulfill a commitment to myself to spend a little
time enjoying the sun sand and sinkings.
