I am using Racerboy's SH4 effects (last ver.), and iIsee that when a ship explodes, the bodies thrown in the air can be counted by hundreds. :hmm:
The effects are awesome, but I was wondering if there is a way to reduce the flying sailors...
Thanks for your help my fellow kaleuns.

There has been mention of a tweak file to either reduce the numbers or remove them completely depending on preference. Nothing so far though. I think the number of bodies is tied to each explosion event, or something like that.
Whow! This way, it looks like you killed a troop transport with hundreds of soldiers on the deck.... :hmm:
Too much Hollywood I think....

I examined the files and I think that some of the particles coded as debris to be thrown by the oil explosions are actually men. Using S3ditor and reducing the debris particles from the oil explosions should solve the problem.
But I'd like there to be debris, just not unrealistic numbers of bodies!

But I'd like there to be debris, just not unrealistic numbers of bodies!
What I mean is that some of the item generators are labeled as "debris" when in fact they are actually bodies. Deactivating these generators will only get rid of the excess bodies and not debris, so there will be no problem. There will still be a large number of correctly labeled debris generators left.

The little problem in hand is that I have no idea whatsoever of how to modify this... :damn:
Is there any chance you could give me a hand with it?
Thanks anyway.

Well war is all about killin'!
Did you really think you were just sinking Ships!:88)

Well, i've seen action, I know what war is, but in this case, it seems to be too much. I wish there was a way to have less bodies flying all over the place. :o

Im stickin with a prior release without this effect.
My AGP card has enough work to do.
So am I. I feel the addition of flying bodies is unnecessary.

why would you want fewer bodies? tho this may be a game/simulation of submarine warfare, it shouldn't be sanitized. and yah, the numder of bodies shouyld be commensurate with the type of ship hit. like in the pic, you wouldn't see that many on a smaller freighter

Thing is Shark Bait, that looks to me like a whale factory ship. Why would there be 40 or 50 on the deck at night? While the crew might be that size, they certainly wouldnt all be up on deck! hence, they shouldnt all be blown out!

Thank you very much, Herr Kaleun.... that's the whole point.

The reason for wanting it reduced is that the number in that shot is ridiculous. Maybe on a passenger ship crowded at the rails it might be possible to see that many bodies flying about but from the descriptions I've read and heard from people that were present during ship explosions, scenes like this were the exception rather than the rule.

You might well be right there sharky
Still though, thats a helluva lot of bodies to have been standing outside for a tanker...

I'm with TarJak: I've never seen any photos showing explosions with bodies flying like that. The few descriptions I remember reading mention one or two.

I've been playing the heck out of this game for the last week and I've seen this a lot. what was really funny was one time i stuck a fish in a ship but was being hounded by a destroyer at the time and couldn't use the external cam, as i was dodging the destroyer so i was checking to see if i was going to get the hit threw the scope and when the torpedo hit and the ship went up immediately a sailor rickashayed off my scope .

Be glad he didn't break your scope ;)
Earnestly: I also think that especially with secondary explosions the flying bodies can be a really comical thing, which is exactly what it shouldn't be. It's a bit like watching Tom&Jerry or Itchy&Scratchy. Once I had a large ship blow up with numerous explosions in short succession, and each time the ship spewed out bodies like a volcano throws pumice into the air, and afterwards the water around the ship was littered with bodies. Lost count when I reached seventy. I could've walked from my boat to the remains of the ship without getting my feet wet ...
Exactly, it looks like a handfull of plastic soldiers in bath water. Far from adding realism and atmosphere it reduces it.

I would have to say this mod is one I have no plans of downloading or playing with. It has very little in the way of redeeming values and does nothing to enhance my enjoyment of the game. If I was reviewing this mod I'd give it three thumbs down.:down::down:

Maybe. But personaly I love the new effects, fires, flaming debris etc. Definitely a huge improvement on the original. Just get rid of the bodies and it would be great.

Agree that the fireballs and debris look good. The bodies spoil it for me. A very small number would be fine but the number in this mod is superfluous.

i agree also, the mod i think is basically a good one but the bodies is just to much, the fireballs and debris looks good, but if the number of bodies couldn't be reduced id rather not have them at all and just have the fireballs and secondary explosions and fire's.... really if it was changed to just splinter fragments in them explosions it would be better. please keep this in mind I'm not criticizing anyone's hard work just change the bodies to something other than bodies and if that cant be done just take that part out all to gather.

sorry but i just thought of something... i wonder if the bodies could be changed to sparks or raining ambers... that would be cool..:)

Reminds me of synchronised dying
.....or should that have been diving :hmm:
I love the mod but the number of bodies in that particular event (I think RB said it was an 'oil_explosion' event) is excessive. Just one or two in each major explosion ought to be enough, such that in this type of circumstance you might get at most 15-20 people in the water when the whole ship goes up with a bang.
Let's not forget that this mod also adds new sounds, and in the near future we ought to be getting more of what we saw in the preview RB made available - ships sounding their horns (and so on) when they spot you or are attacked. That's something I can't wait for :yep:
As for the visual effects themselves, I'm still quite fond of the 1.06 alpha version. The smoke doesn't disappear instantly when the fire stops (though I believe it isn't affected by the wind either, but the lesser of two evils for me), no bodies, and not quite as heavy on my old AGP card due to less debris and no high-polygon (compared to boxes!) sailors.

i couldn't agree more about the 1.06 alpha version but i deleted it off the hard drive is there any place to download the 1.06 alpha
and im looking forward to the new stuff to and the new sounds are good. maybe its all the number of bodies that's causing the slow downs as at that point is where my computer starts struggling ..... its a good mod but all the bodies stop it from being very good...

If you PM me your e-mail address, I can send the Alpha version mod file to you via 'yousendit'.
Racerboy should be back this weekend then you can ask him right away.

Chasing women, being under the water at 60-110 feet, diving shipwrecks, throwing back some alcohol....it was a great vacation!
Seems like I need to release a tweak file for 2.022 so that everyone can either add/reduce debris, add/reduce bodies, or whatever.
Realize that I partly control the body count on explosions. It's how the ship was 'designed' that ultimately controls how much debris/bodies. If the maker of the ship designated a certain part of the ship to 'splinter_explode' instead of 'small_splinter_explode' then you will get many many bodies in the water.
As far as sounds for ships (like the ship's annoucements and horns) I will continue working on this now and hopefully release this in a couple of days. That will ultimately be v2.03 and should have the tweak file mentioned above with it.
I'm still trying to sort out the smoke abruptly stopping and any other 'bugs' or additions on my list.

IMHO, since we'll be able to adjust bodies (so far i haven't really encountered an excessive amount) and debris, if you get the disappearing smoke fixed and the sounds you want added, this mod will be perfect

You know if it was a troop transport or a passenger ship then that massive amount of bodies would look realistic. but a smaller ship. Over kill. I still laugh everytime I see that pic. Too funny.:D

Yes too many bodies in a merchant ship are not very correct.
But is correct with a troop ship or big units, in sh3 i sink a troop ship , first damaged with one torpedo and finished with several deck gun fire, converting the ship in a hell of flames...:88) in this case could be a lot of soldiers on the decks
perhap could be good reduce the number and have a good compromise in numbers and realism.
