View Full Version : I am in a doubt !
I Mod in this Place for a time now,
Been making Mods for quiet a long time
and one thing nobody can ever say is
that I ever asked anything in return !
There is a reazon for me for posting this,
and the reazon is quit simple....
My U-boat mod under Dev is reaching a point of,
for one side the version made for stock SHIII
needing to be tested and the other for GWX
is on stand by wayting for the brave and noble friends of
the GWX team to finish it and release it...
As for the GWX I now I have to wayt, cause Moding is that
hard work and hard times in front of the PC, I have been testing that
U-boat version cause I can test it with the GWX 1.03...
Has for the Stock version I just can't do it, since I do not have
the stock installed and can't test it, so I recruited some guys
Thru out this forum and some didn't even showed up for saying ok lets work...
MrChris and Lutzow were the onlys to explain to me why
it was not possible to do it right away , I mean start the testings
of the Alpha version, But the rest of the guys it looks like you just
want stuff done and posted without moving a single finger !
I am not complaining for nothing here, I just see to many
people complaining about the Mod times to make and unperfections
and when they have the way to help its just to much work !
I don't get it guys, beta testing means that
we test we find errors we report , we fix them and we returne to test
until the mod runs without isues...That takes time and an effort
from ourselfs on the task of testing this vergin files so that they
get fixed and they are released to the community in good form and shape...
I am somehow desapointed that after somany mouths of work when I finaly
ask for help in this to offer you guys a Product entierly free a product that
you will get without a single effort and money expended you guys live me
alone and just don't do what you affferd to do when I posted the beta recruiting post !
This is not for all just some of them I still have 2 working from 6 that oferd help !
The forum and mi testing harbor area is now closed until I get real help in this !
I am sorry for all of you guys that just don't have nothing to do with this
and have to reed this words...
But I am just sad and desapointed...
I would not be too disappointed, often people get into beta testing for the wrong reasons. Sometimes they think that it just means playing around with something as you would with the regular sim, and the benefit is that you get to see stuff early, but of course it is not like that at all. It's tedious, repetitive and requires dedication, and is time consuming because of all that. Sometimes people will volunteer and then realise this with dismay, others will begin and their enthusiasm for the task will fall off. and some won't do as they offered.
I was recently offered the chance to join the beta for the Pirates of the Burning Sea RPG (twice actually), and regrettably had to turn it down, as I knew I would not have the time to give it what it deserved. Of course, when one applies for something like that, it is many months before the opportunity presents itself in actuality, and in the case of POTBS, I think I put in the request almost two years ago. As such, one can never be certain that the free time will be there when it comes to actually doing the testing.
All we can do is urge people to think carefully about volunteering for this kind of thing, as it is often not the bed of roses it appears to be. This happens with software reviewers too (of which I am one for Avsim). Ostensibly it looks like a great deal to be a reviewer - getting software for free and just knocking up a quick article about it - but the truth is one has to spend numerous hours researching stuff in order to write knowledgeably about matters, for to criticise something in error and wrongly affect people's opinion of a product would be unforgiveable! So in the case of reviewing aircraft and add-ons for flight sims (as I do), there are countless boring hours of repeating the same flight over and over again with different configurations and in different weather etc, etc, loading it into Vista, then XP, then FSX, then FS9, then on a laptop with a different graphics card etc, etc, not to mention poring over technical books and measuring the accuracy of 3D models and flight modeling. Frankly, if all I was interested in was getting the plane for free, it would be far less hassle simply to buy it and not have to do the review! But, since I like writing reviews, and think it offers a valuable service to do so, I indulge in this kind of thing.
So don't be too harsh on people if they lose enthusiasm for things JCWolf, in the end people appreciate your work, just not everyone is cut out for doing that sort of thing, if everyone was, the world would be a bit dull. and you can never be certain of someone's reason for not showing up, it may well be very reasonable.

I do understand perfectly what you mean, but somehow i am maybe
saying that above based on mi personal way of doing things, you know, if i propose
myself for a task i'll just do it, sure sometimes life plays treaks and real life engagements makes us restrocture a all worktable for a day but what we propose ourselfs to acomplishe we should follow by that line...
this is a Mod mate, and for sure i am not a huge game company with large budget for spending , but some times its not the action or compromising and failing what we compromised ourselfs to do, its the way , we can simply send a PM or an e-mail and say we can't do it anymore for what ever reazon...
I am sure that you just don't skip a task without info the guys that you can't do ti !
but as I say its a mod, and i am glad that some people like my work,

Interesting that you mentioned POTBS. I also wanted to be a beta tester but I, too realized that there is no way I would have the time. Nowadays almost all of my sim playing time goes into testing my own mod; it's gotten to the point where I haven't played SH3 in Campaign mode for over a year. :damn:
I agree that you need to be careful before volunteering to beta test. Not many people have the time (or self discipline) to test a new mod thoroughly, as opposed to just playing for fun as if it's the release version.
@JCWolf - I would help out myself and I really appreciate what you're trying to do but, again, I don't think I would have the time. Also, I play GWX instead of stock SH3.

Obviously you adressed me, but there is no reason to be disappointed. You promised to provide a link for DL last week. I waited every day. Then the weekend came and I was out for a two day holiday, and as it was supposed to be a holiday I was far away from any PC.
Returned home yesterday afternoon, I saw that there is a link now, but the link is broken, passed by, dead.
Sorry mate, ...
This is not a complaint in any way I just wanted to make some things clear.
Besides, I haven`t installed a stock version either, but for ßtesting your mod, I would have installed it from scratch.
I appreciate what you do for SHIII, but maybe we do not fit together so I recommend to find some other guys to do the ßtesting.

Hi JC,
dont be desapointed !
I would help if i could but my time is realy short cause first iam working on the 7. AOTD-onlinecampaign and second iam working on my ships so there is not enough time for testing.
Think positive mate, there will be enough tester around here.
Allure them with some chocolate and they come.

Stay the course my friend, stay the course.:arrgh!:
What makes Beta testing so dam difficult is the following;
Language barriers.
Distance.:dead:
Ability not to talk face to face.:()1:
Beta Tester knowledge base.:know:
No Beta Tester manual (report layout, details required etc).:|\\
Real life.:oOther information that must be given to the creator of the mod by the Beta Testers is PC hardware configuration etc.:yep:
I may look into making a PDF Beta Tester guide this may stop this type of scenario from happening.:hmm:

JCWolf, I see that I am not on your list of "people who showed up to beta test" again. This is the second time you've accused me of this. :stare:
As I stated, both in PM here at subsim, and on your forum: the beta took 16 hours to download. In both messages to you I requested you find somewhere other than megapants to host it, and in both cases you did not reply. So I waited 16 hours and then I began to test, only to be hit by a CTD upon launching the game. A search of your forum revealed a fixed menu ini, which I installed, only to get another CTD (thankfully not on start-up this time) which I reported. You told me a fix was on it's way. That was last night... and this morning I login and see this? Only 48 hours after the beta was posted for download? :stare:
As an aside... a beta test should not CTD on launch. :nope: Bugs are to be expected, yes, and reported, but such elementary testing as "will the game actually start with my mod" should already have been performed by you.
I would rather have discussed this in PM but as you've made the post publicly, my reply is public too.

JC- you need to remember that 90% (or so) of people here plays GWX (ar any other "supermod"). I think thats why there arent many beta testers for your mod.
I can test GWX version of your mod any moment - just say a word, but not "stock" version - and i think im not alone in this...

11-12-07, 08:05 AM
JC slightly after you put out a request for beta testers I must've missed it, so I sent you a PM and never got a reply.
I run stock SH3, the only mods I run are Racerboy's exhaust mod, OLC's waves and my own sub skins. The offer still stands mate, if you'd like another beta tester I'm more than willing.
Here's another thing I missed, you've got Koondawg on your beta testing team. We play online together as often as our personal schedules allow & we're close friends, so anything that acts up online for one or both of us can be documented for you.

OLC
  You are jocking aren't you !?:stare:

So maybe then you can tell me what reazon there is for making a Alpha version !
If its not to locate errors like that and fix them for the final release then maybe
you can explain it to me using your vast Moding Knowlidge and reazon mate !?
Let me tell you what you have done so that I can name what you haven't done ,
You have done nothimg mate but downloading theAlpha version files...
...The only guys that have been doing work were Hawk U-375, Koondawg , Lutzow, and Mr.Chris that info me the time he would start...
You And Firewall, and MrFriedl9te that looks so choked have not even posted
at the specialy created testing area...
I sended a PM to everyone with the info on the Alpha when it was posted over the
forum and Everybody replyed so far ok by that but , only 3 persons reported and
showed at the store for working...
Listen mate, Don't come to me with that Nice crafted Words and replying to me
like I was an idiot cause you are far from knowing who am I or what I realy bellieve
So there is no point in going furder with this talk, You know I am not the idiot that
you are trying to show people with your pot above and the same message goes to
Mr. Firewall and Mr Friedl9te that I never saw is color over my testing grounds !
I allways suported you and defended you Onelifecrisis, but you know you acted wrong and the prof of that is the "smouth words"...
The Alpha was posted 3 days ago, the 3 members I have mentioned worked and
started posting reportes almost emidiatly only you guys never gave us the
pleasure of sneding a farwell letter of Goodby !
So don't think I am an idiot just cause I didn't talled nothing to you before when you
downloaded the Alpha on the same hour it was posted ! :yep:
The sad thing is that I trusted you more then the others !
Furder info will be sended to you by PM...

I think there must be some language problems here because I feel like I'm shouting (smooth words or otherwise) into the wind here.
No I'm not joking... I signed up for a beta test, not an alpha... but perhaps such distinctions don't belong in a modding forum. :hmm:

Take another look at your testing forum, mate. I've posted there, and I know you read at least one of my posts because you replied to it! If you are complaining because I wasn't testing on the day the tests were supposed to start, that's because my PC spent the whole day downloading your mod after you failed to even reply to my requests to provide an alternative download link.
And incidentally, Friedl9te beta tested my mod, and I found him to be co-operative, professional, and thorough. IMO you should check your expectations of people.

As far as for me its forgoten,
and Thank God I have some working
on the testings !
If I failed to provide you the means to work
How copme you have my Alpha files downloaded!???:hmm:
I am not Hangry with nobody as said before
just desapointed !
Friedl9te can be a cool and trusted guy, I do not
know him but the links I have provided you were
the same as the actual active Beta testers had
and they are working !:yep: :hmm:
I just finish this here and now !
Don't want to follow with an argument that will
lead people into discutions that will take us nowere!
Remember !
Its not what we do that stays over the times,
Its why and how we do it that counts in the end!
