Is there any way to use the search spotlight on the top of the conning tower?
Or a mod maybe??

I ran into a fishing boat convoy tonight (5 of them, west of Formosa I believe) in the dead of night with rough seas. I radioed them in and was then instructed to sink them :o. I would have liked to spotlamp them while my deck gun crew fired on them. I had to adjust my gamma instead.

What was really wierd was how darn tough they were. 20+ 3 50s each. I wound up sinking the last two with my twin AA.Turns out I didn't even get credit for them anyways (mission wise). Either I misinterpreted what was going on, or I really gotta re-evaluate my mods, or both! :rotfl:

But if someone did do a search light/signal light mod, you ought to throw in the running lights as well ;). Just a cool factor thing I guess. Destroyers have 'em (and oh do they work) so I'd recon it's possible.

Mr Sargyano

By adding another node to the conning tower you could fit one
BUT
The way searchlights work is they auto switch on when enemy detected

Bit of a giveaway when trying to carry out a convoy attack surfaced at night

Maybe
If you could activate the light only when manned
Maybe by manning it

Seems like a very good idea, I've often thought about that searchlight being used.
A mod would be nice, but if possible I have no idea. I have to leave that to the clever guys on here.

:damn: it is all going under the wpn_searchlight controller and it is AI controlled.
With SDK we could change it:D........:shifty:

I know I maybe should be posting this in SH3 mods forum but, I would like this in SH-3 GWX 2.1

In the book Torpedo Junction there is repeated reference to Uboat Kpts useing spot lites to ask survivors (Capts) what there cargo, ect was).

I would like to put a lite on Rubini's kool mod. :D

Maybe it could replace one of the AA guns.

IX boats patroling US east coast had two.

I'd give up a gun to have a controlable search lite. :yep:

HEHE

'Having a sale or something?' :rotfl:

Anyways, the convoy I was involved with East of Formosa was comprized entirely of fishing boats. They did not have DD escort. They ranged from 125-135 tons and were unarmed. I had to man the deck gun personally in the least zoom possible to shoot them at close range in the middle of that storm. It just would have been nice to have a crew man shine that light on the target I designated for deck gun attack. As close as I had to be to have a chance of seeing them (given the waves/rain of the storm and it being the middle of the nite) they knew I was there anyways and I surely was not going to waste torpedoes on them.

It is hardly a problem now that I have finished this patrol and realized that no extra credit was given from SUBPAC for destroying the convoy inspite of thair order to engage it. My initially thought was 'HEHE! Hold my beer and watch this!!!' cause they would blow apart after a single hit. Yeah, not so much. 20+ 3 50 shells? Countless dual .50 caliber? :damn:

I revisited this save game and simply rammed these things for HO HO's and HA HA's. RFB didn't even register scratched paint and they went straight to the bottom. No credit was given for 'sinking' them, but who needs 655 tons that bad?

I'll know better next time:know:... "A fleet of fishing boats??? SURFACE THE BOAT! ALL AHEAD FLANK!!!"

Regards,
Mr Sargyano

PS I am adding in NSM today so perhapse that will enable such small vessels to sink with a reasonable amount of effort.

I know your pain, not being able to see the enemy in all of that rain.;) The worst thing is the A.S.W. package (destroyers & sub chasers).:stare::o... and being right by them:damn:.

"No extra credit was given from SUBPAC for destroying the convoy inspite of their order to engage it." -MrSargyano

Very frusterating and darn right annoying!:nope: Because of that, I wonder how I'm going to get credit for something that I don't get unless I don't report it.

"Who needs 655 tons that bad?" -MrSargyano

I agree because they only worth 20 renown points (100% realism) and not really worth it's weight in shells. Besides, who ever heard of anyone getting famous from sinking fishing boats?:88)

I'd rather avoid them. Because if you don't:

"As close as I had to be to have a chance of seeing them (given the waves/rain of the storm and it being the middle of the night) they knew I was there anyways." -MrSargyano

... they WILL report you! Well... maybe not right away, but when the weather clears up, look out! I had that happen a few times where they will report me during a storm, then the planes arrive when the weather clears.

You mean like a signal lamp? Like the ones that the destroyers would have?

I just got an idea! How about being able to use it like a "weapon" where you can man it (or assign someone) and then use somthing like a PK to track the vessel your trying to spot? However, I have no idea how old this thread is. I hope not too old...

Well, if we actually do manage to get this to work, we are gonna have a lot of people "beaming" with pride.:p I personally think that this is a VERY "bright" idea!

"Mhmmm.. I guess a halo light is possible, but it is always on at night:hmm:" -Xantrokoles
Yeah, that could be bad...:o

a little skit....

Jap sailor: "Captain?! Look at the strange light underwater!"

Jap Capt.: :stare: "What the heck is that, a sub?:hmm: (pauses) NO WAY!!"

Jap sailor: "It looks like the American God's... something or other...:-?"

Jap Capt.: "Sailor, take ALL of the sake and lock it up!!:x"

Jap sailor: "Sir?:-?"

Jap Capt.: "NOW SAILOR!!!:hulk: and btw, you didn't see ANYTHING, GOT IT??!!" (gives very dirty look)

Jap sailor: "Aye aye Sir!"

(thinks to self) Yeah right like I CAN see anything!! It was too bright!! (blinks eyes repeatedly, walking into walls)

Jap Capt.: "Because if you don't keep your yapper flapper shut, the Emperor WILL!!:/\\chop

Jap sailor: (swallows nervously):o

BTW, did anyone like the skit?

Ahem, anyway I was wondering that even if we do manage to get the ball rolling on this project, will this be for SH4 1.4 & 1.5? Also please note that I maybe off topic or make this longer than needs be, then please let me know.
