I think the random rain and storms in this game must happen when I am in high TC between Pearl and my assigned mission. I have seen a little rain but nothing more than that.

Is it possible to create a mod that significantly increases the likelyhood of bad weather during the appropriate months? Or have others experienced this and it's just the luck of the draw?

When I am in TC I regularly hit ctl + w ( Trigger Maru ) to see what's going on with the weather, if it is storming I will come out of TC and patrol for a bit.

Maybe in time there will be something similar to the SH3 Weather App.

I believe Leovampire was working on more frequent weather changes. Sometimes I sail for a few weeks without rain. My current patrol it has rained for over 5 days and has just cleared up. The weather changing is a bit better than SH3. All I know is when it starts to rain I'm hoping it clears up soon. Such a pain to find the targets in the murk when you do have one in your area.

Me too AVG. My last patrol it rained hard for eight days straight with really ugly seas. It ate up a bunch of fuel. I finally just stopped and submerged and waited on it to clear up. I sit in the same spot for two days.:stare:

I think that Leo did mention somewhere that he would like the weather to be more variable, more often. There is a value that can be changed within the scene.dat file that effects this.

If your familiar enough with Mini Tweeker you can make the change yourself.
Just open scene.dat and look for the Wind category....you'll see two values.

WindHeadingChangeSpeed...and...WindSpeedChangeSpee d.

Stock value for both is 0.01

In ROW, Leo has both these values set to 0.03...you could go higher, say to 0.05 ,and see if that makes the weather more changeable to your liking.

Cheers!

I just didn't go to high because there is a weather loop the game get's stuck in sometimes due to the way the save game file's work and found it tended to keep the game's weather from not changing for long period's of time but that might be fixed with the 1.4 patch from what I have gatherd in the post's with the new save game work they are doing.

using the ROTW mod ive played about 3 weeks game time and its blue skies and calm sea's all the way. i remember a lot of good work that was done to SH3 to improve the weather, is there anyone workin on makin the SH4 weather more dynamic?

Yeah. Bad weather is fun and good drama too....struggling to see your target in order to stand any chance of hitting it. True, Silent Hunter 3 would naturally offer a more varied weather experience due to it being set in the Atlantic, but my experience of the weather in Silent Hunter 4 is that it's very boring. I hope one of our talented modders can create some storms for us. :D

I do not find the weather boring really. To me it is real time. Last night as I worked on the halo effect I was outside the sub at X32 TC to watch the sun. The skys were clear. About 2 hours passed (at X32 TC) small whisps of clouds started rolling in. Then it got thicker with clouds until it was a full storm. If I was playing at X1 the whole time I could have watched the weather system roll in....like the real thing. ROW has really enhanced the weather.

You're correct, AVG. I'm waiting for 1.4 before I add the ROW mods. Currently, I'm just running with Trigger Maru and a few small mods. :D

I have not tried TM. I very happy with what RSRD has offered and I do like the mix of stock aggressive and stock passive DD.

Yeah. Bad weather is fun and good drama too....struggling to see your target in order to stand any chance of hitting it.

It's all well and good as long as you don't happen to be sneaking into a harbor to do a photo recon of some carriers when a typhoon hits. This happened to me in Rabaul, I believe I had to get within 300 yards in order to get the photos. I will admit the bad weather made getting into and out of the harbor easier though.

That's the kind of stuff I like. :D

The changes I made to the scene file for weather and wind changes and how often they happen in game.

First of all it full kicks in once you hit port then leave on a new patrol. Second if you do not go any faster than 256 Time Compression the weather and wind changes periodicly. Anything more than that and the weather wind and waves change very slowly. Why I do not know but I have tested this in game very very often.

In a given day and travling to a patrol point or mission point the wind changes in direction and speed several time's a day. And at least every 2 day's a storm happens and usualy end's in no more than a 24 hour period.

So try this out in your game and see the difference from high time compressions to no more than 256.

I think that the weather system and the stock values is the same of sh3. !

Fog=0
FogRand=0
Clouds=0
CloudsRand=0
Precip=0
PrecipRand=0
WindHeading=0
WindSpeed=5.000000
WindRand=0
WeatherRndInterval=5

change the values to another for example like this but you can try anothers for your taste.

Fog=0
FogRand=1
Clouds=0
CloudsRand=1
Precip=0
PrecipRand=1
WindHeading=0
WindSpeed=5.000000
WindRand=1
WeatherRndInterval=2

in sh3 there are only 3 campaign files bun there are a lot more in sh4, so probably you have to change the values in every file.
For testing porpouses you can use some training mission.

to leovampire, im using your mod but i dont want to be stuck at 256x to get weather changes.

to hartmanm, yeah i remember cb doin some cool weather stuff for SH3 using those files but i couldnt find the same files in SH4. in SH3 the campaign folder contains them, what folder contains the relevant files to change?

also someone mentioned using mini tweaker to improve the weather, anyone got any info on that?

wonder why there are so many files to change in that folder?

ok ...in the data/campaigns/campaign/ every .mis file have the weather section at the start. the same with patrolobjectives folder, every file.... the same.

Sh4 uses a different system for the campaign files, in separate files depending of zones and dates.... a lot of work :doh:

Is controled by the Scene file just inside of the Data file for the game.

It can only be adjusted using mini tweeker right now as S3D dosn't suport it yet.

There are several node's that control the weather but the higher the time compression used the less the game read's and uses the base setting's.

Wind:

windheadingchangespeed= 0.01 0.03
windspeedchangespeed= 0.01 0.03

Random Wind and rain:

Changetimemin= 3 2 this is the key to weather changes
Changetimemax= 5 5 this is the key to weather changes
Randomwindspeedmax= 0.01 0.05
Randomwindspeedvariationspeed= 0.005 0.009
randomwindheadingspeedvariation= 0.005 0.009
rainintensitychangespeed= 0.01 0.009 I did this because the rain was changing too often.

Original value's are in white and my changes are in Green.

As you can see I changed everything but the max main time. When I did the weather started to change every few hour's not day's so I left that alone.

You can go through every single mission file for the game and manualy make the game use differn't weather conditions but you maybe stuck with that condition until you start a new mission so do that at your own risk. Again not all of these change's are accepted right away by the game. They come into full effect when you are in port and leave on a new patrol.

This work represent's day's of testing and not in game day's real time day's of testing.

I am just reporting finding's on what work's best with the way the game's inner work's operate.

All I can do is tell you what I find and it is your choice to do and run your game how ever you want. You asked for more weather changes I am explaining how to get them.

I used to Use the storms to sneek up on DD,s on the surface. I would Close the distance then when he starts to flash his morse code I would back off so I could still see that light flashing and I would fire the deck gun at the flashing light. I could sink one easy by doing that.
