Well.. I'm not joking:) It was flying and screaming "I believe I can fly" when I was in the single mission, the one where Polish people flee to UK at the start of the war.
Acctually it was my bad that she got airborned :) I was attacking already damaged/stationary small merchant unit with my last torp when this hero on Elco torpedo boat thought he might be mentioned in history by making himself hurt catching my torpedo on the run to the target :)) He must have gone crazy or smth :)
Well u had to see it :) I'm still not sure was it on purpose to save the floating merchant with tanks on board or it was just a coincidense.
Torpedo hit the Elco and the boat was blown away high from the surface of water making some impressing reverses in the air and finnaly crushed back into the water and sank during couple of minutes :yep:

Hi Contact. Long time no see.:D

Roger the flying boat. It is one of the quirks in SH3 that when you hit a small vessel like a PT boat or a sailboat with a torpedo... it turns into an airplane.

Hi Kaptain! :)

ahm... on youtube I saw once a destroyer who got sea-sick and started to fly the same way this boat did :)) Well I guess it is the same bug ? and if it was fixed, is it possible to make small objects like Elco stay on the water no matter what ? :)

Hi Contact....you've been missing over on TS for a while, hope everthing is okay at your end of the pond

The first one looks like a nuclear eel and the second one is a bit of jiggery pokery....or the next secret weapon (semi submersible) for GWX ;)

I believe the reason smaller boats like the Elco fly into the air is because of the construction of their damage model and the lack of individual small pieces in the .dat - thus, the vessel cannot break into smaller pieces which fly away, and the physics of the game has the hull fly into the air as if it were a piece of debris. That is the basics of it - someone else can go into more detail if they like.

BTW - Larger coastal craft such as the tugboat and my coastal tanker have larger hulls which behave in the same manner as larger vessels when torpedoed, as you may have noticed. When I actually used to play this game, I would sink tugboats whenever I saw them...:hmm:

Haha, it reminds me of a funny story when I was experimenting with a mod that changed the torpedo performance.

I load up with the mod, start a patrol in the North Sea. First contact happens near Scapa, a lone tramp steamer (it's early in the war). The weather is crap, it's night time, wind fog, waves that high, crap. I can barely see the steamer in the 'scope and he's barely 300m away. I enter a firing solution, let fly with the "new and improved" torpedo and wait. Now, I can barely see the target, waves washing up my FOV and all that. But the steamer just disappears!:shifty: Whatever, I get the "She's going down " message, suspicioulsy quick, even for a steamer in rough weather, but anyway, I carry on.

Five days later, I hit a convoy south of the Rockall Banks, a dozen cargos plus a Southampton, sitting fat and slow in the middle, with a pair of corvettes and V&W front screen. I sneak in and decide to have a go at the cruiser. Now, the weather is perfect (bad for me): sunny, cloudless sky, calm waters like an oil puddle, visibility excellent. I let go at the Southampton. The first torp hits amidship and the thing just goes up in the air, I mean, sky-high, doing barrel rolls and comes down crashing, barely missing a medium cargo on the way down! :o Torps on 'roids! One shot kill on a cruiser and it exhibited the same behavior as Elcos and schooners when hit by a regular torp, and then some. Needless to say, with nuke-tipped eels, I savaged the whole convoy, large cargos and ore carriers flying left and right like paper rafts. The corvettes flew so high, they fell back on the edge of visibility!

I got home with as much tonnage as I had stacked up in the 7 previous patrols combined, well over 100,000 GRT...Next game, I loaded up a previous save, as I felt doubling my tonnage in one patrol with mega-torps kinda made a sham of my career tonnage.:shifty: I also removed the mod, it was entertaining at first, not very realistic though. Duh.

Well, sorry for this long-winded anecdote, just thought it was funny and kinda relevant to this thread.

Carry on. :yep:
