Sergbuto released a VIIA as an AI sub
IIRC was just a VIIB cloned to use as AI
Not modelled as such

There's not a whole lot of difference between the 7a and 7b other than the external stern tube and conning tower.

believe me, you wouldnt want a complete type VII a anyways...
thewy couldnt keep depth, they were only 2 made and they were used as training boats....
one higher-up even said "if men can keep those things level, then they can hold anything level"

The VIIa was the last version that came without superchargers, and had a max speed of 17 knots.

The VIIb came with them, and had a max speed of 17.9 knots.

I shouldn't bother with the VIIA...there were only a few made and they had absolutely very little impact on the true course of U-boat warfare :nope:

I agree, but I like early war weapons.

Sure?:know:
U-32 type VIIA sank the largest ship ever sunk by a German U Boot ( without counting the mine loss of the HMHS Britannic in 1916 (Empress of Britain 43000 tons)
U-29 type VIIA sank the carrier HMS Courageous
U-30 typ VIIA sank the first ship of the war (SS Athenia 14000 tons)
But I agree with says that they weren't good subs, they carried only 11 torpedoes and the stern tube worked only surfaced....
Some times ago someone suggested the idea of create a new tower for the type VIIB,
http://subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123468
This one was my favourite (the one mounted on Gunther's U-47 during the scapa raid and on the majority of early war boats)

like the VIIC one but lower and shorter...the AA mount was behind the tower

The VIIA should have a single rudder too

Yeah:up: Thanks Dietrich, great idea!! Love that slim conning tower of the VIIa...

:D You mod guys never stop me from beeing surprised:o :D
I love those VIIA:p
Dargn! Now that was one of the most brilliant defences ever done of a new mod for SH3! You got me now fully converted to the VIIA faith
One question: Since the slots for submarines are limited, which submarine would you replace with the VIIA? I guess the Type IIA is the best candidate, as it was used only in early war, and therefore not even changes in flotillas and U-Boat availability would be needed. :hmm:

Okay, partially fixed... the reason why I could not access that position, was because there was no equivalent entry in the data\objects\Turm7c_1_hd.cam file. I've now found that, and added a "camera" and "hide" object. I can now access the new position and move the gun around.
However, my next problem is that the gun has no ammunition. Any ideas, anyone?

very interested in this work...
i'm curious though, from the grey wolves site it seems as though you've also modeled a new turm specially for the VIIA too. any chance that you could show us a 'side-on' view of it?
also, have you been able to emplace the flak gun on the deck aft of the turm?
