Enhanced Ocean effects for GWX-16km
Ver 2.0

Hi, first, thanks for downloading this mod. Please note this mod ONLY works with GWX 16km Atmosphere. It will not work with any other mod that modifies the "scene.dat" file.

This mod is a continuing effort to improve the way the ocean moves and handles\reflects light and objects. This is version 2.0 which makes some changes to the waves themselves and the way sunlight is reflected off the ocean surface varying with different wave states. This mod is an improvement over Ver1.0 which may have been released to quickly.

List of changes:

1) Wave motions for low windspeeds are a little quicker and motions for higher windspeeds are a little slower. This was done to simulate the larger amount of water that is sloshing around during heavy seas and to avoid the "scuba diving" effect of the sub.

2) The waves themselves are a bit longer.

3) Reflections are stronger and reflection distortion has been reduced.

4) The waves are now choppier and form better peaks. This effect is most noticiable in calmer seas where there is now surface chop instead of a calm lake effect.

5) General surface light on the different wave states has been changed. A calm sea will radiate more light whereas heavy seas will radiate less light.

6) I have increased the LOD factor. Textures are clearer and visibility has been improved, though not beyond 16km. Now land that is 5km away will not be totally obscured in haze\fog and it is possible to see a ships mast\smoke on the horizion.

7) The lighting arc has been heightened so you cannot see the top of the arc from the bridge. Also the minimum time for a strike has been reduced while the maximum time has been increased.

8) There are no more totally calm seas with a flat pond look. Even 0ms windspeed has 'some' surface activity. This however does not effect the u-boat in any way.

Install instructions: If youre using SH3 Commander press the "rollback sh3 commander" button

1) Download and extract to your MODS folder
2) Open JGSME and DISABLE GWX 16km Atmosphere. GWX 16km was used in making this mod ie.. this is GWX 16km slightly enhanced
3) Enable this mod
4) If you use SH3 commander I recommend setting the wave height to the "seasonal" option and using the settings below. This gives you a nice seasonal buildup with calmer summer waters and heavier winter storm seas. Please note that I have removed the 2x option as this makes the waves entirely too large. The largest waves you will encounter are x1.53. If you are using Sh3 Commander's wave settings feature open your Sh3 Commander folder and then open the "Cfg" folder. Now open the "SH3 options" file using notepad. Here is an example of mine with the changed settings:

[WAVE HEIGHT] ;TURN FEATURE ON/OFF FROM WITHIN SH3 COMMANDER
;Values used by "Seasonal" wave height setting, by month
;1x = base 1x value. Month settings are multiplier values
;Current settings suit Atlantic conditions
;Written to scene.dat
;**NOTE: 2x model is really 1.875x
1x=256

01=1.53
02=1.45
03=1.35
04=1.30
05=1.25
06=1.1
07=1.1
08=1.25
09=1.30
10=1.35
11=1.45
12=1.53

Make the changes and close\save the file.

The game opened as it should, however it seems there were some graphics issues. I'm not sure if it is my game installation (GWX 1.03), the combination of mods I have installed, or if it is this mod but here are the results of my first test run.
I deactivated the GWX 16k mod and made the changes to the appropriate SHIII-C config file.
I did not receive any warning messages indicating any files had been already altered by previous mods, or anything like that.

The mods I have installed (with the 16k mod deactivated and before the activation of your mod)

1. With mod activated

2. I'm not quite sure why the bright glow would appear in front of the boat as the sun was to the right of frame and much higher.

I have a bad feeling that it is the 'SH4 effects for SH3' that is causing the problem although I have no idea why. I have not tried this particular mod for racerboy as its still alpha. But from my understanding it only deals with the "particles" effects of the game. My mod only makes changes to the scene.dat. Try unselecting racerboys mod just to be sure...:hmm:

Thanks, I will retest the waves mod tomorrow with the SHIV/SHIII mod deactivated and see what happens.

I tried the ocean mod again with RB's-SHIV/SHIII mod deactivated. No improvement I'm afraid, the same results as above. I will try deactivating all ther mods and introducing them one at a time to see if any particular one is causing the issue. I haven't seen any messages indicating files have laready been altered by other mods, so I am not sure what it could be.
