http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s64/danlisa_photo/103Planescopy2.jpg

In GWX version 1.03, we replaced a handful of the Stock SH3 aircraft with models that were made available to the community.

In GWX version 1.04... ALL stock SH3 aircraft have been replaced... and new ones added on top of that.

Just following the release of GWX 1.0 last year, JU_88 began the massive task of rebuilding aircraft 3D models for replacement of Stock SH3 units. These were in turn imported by Ref into the GWX mod files.

Great difficulty was encountered at many stages, and overcome. The brunt of these difficult corrections were borne by Ref, and I cannot say enough in regards to the many late hours that he spent to see this task through... only to FOLLOW through with multiple passes and corrections that were later required.

Prior to version 1.04, some community-built aircraft were also produced employing hardpainted roundels. These potentially required cloning and/or reskinning in order to be used in different national rosters. Using markings made by JScones, Ref also rebuilt the files necessary to show correct versions and placements of all aircraft represented in GWX... in such a way that they remain correct no matter which national roster the aircraft units are placed in.

Furthermore, air coverage in GWX has undergone a very deep review and in some places totally overhauled based on in-game experiences and feedback in comparison to various historical sources.

Many aircraft damage models have been further tweaked.

"Real" 3D models of Leigh-Lights have been employed.

Aircraft behavior problems (such as failures to attack by SH3 stock aircraft settings) have been corrected.

Aircraft will now usually make multiple passes depending on their armament. (In version 1.03, some would and some would not.)

...And in general... if you weren't afraid of aircraft before... You will be.
BTW, the Swordfish has a tail-gunner now. Might be a good idea to remember that.

You can view some of the new aircraft models in subsequent posts below. Please note that all skins and / or any specific element is subject to change without notice.

[Edit: Belated apologies for earlier oversights: The airship and V-1 were constructed/imported by Dev Team member Privateer. Additionally, further aircraft skinning and numerous adjustments were carried out by Dev Team members Dowly and Danlisa. Campaign placement and loadout corrections were carried out by Bigboywooly. Thanks for all you do, gentlemen.]

On a personal note, I had forgotten the models & skins from 1.03 until I had cause to look. I suppose you get accustomed to the good stuff when you already have it.:rotfl:

@ ALL

You are really going to enjoy 1.04.

Very NICE !!!!

The current skin for the V1 was taken from a photo we found. However, things are always subject to change.;)
Besides, you'll be lucky to see one, you WILL hear one though.:arrgh!:

Privateer, Danlisa, and Diving Duck have done a great deal to bring that model to where it is now.

Furthermore, the pulse-jet sound file it uses... is from a REAL V-1 rocket recording.

(as are a lot of the other sounds used in GWX)

The little details are simply amazing. Did you notice that there are even cockpit gauges for the Me-109? :o

Also, simply putting in transparent glass adds so much to the models.

I assume the olive-skinned heavy bombers will have a different type of AI than the Coastal Command versions - is that correct?

The aircraft have come many miles from the initial version that you saw. After you left the team, every propellor has already been resized for each aircraft and roundel placement was corrected.

Though it also isn't apparent by the screenshot, the Hudson scheme is grey... not silver.;)

Though the aircraft may not be up to the personal standards of some individuals, they are far more historically accurate in all fields in comparison to what was previously available in stock SH3 and/or GWX.

If you don't like 'em... you don't have to use them.

I happen to be really proud of what our guys have done given the environment that preceded much of the finishing work on these units... and the high pay that they received during construction. (LOL) Given any element of SH3 or any mod... I'm sure we could all count rivets until the cows come home. Nothing that we can do, or draw from ALL our bag of skills... will make a perfect game for everyone.

Our guys did a really good thing for an area of SH3 that has been rather neglected.

Yes Todd http://www.comicguide.net/images/smilies/tatschel.gif The screenshots seem to suggest otherwise though (for roundel placement and size). ;)

But as you say, it's only an issue for those that like their simulations to have some resemblance of visual accuracy. The majority of players will still be more than happy.

If you don't like 'em... you don't have to use them.
Well, you did agree with me that Denis's existing models were superior.

@ JSCONES

When you have 25+ aircraft models to create/edit map and skin within a set time frame - compromises have to be made, you cant get everything 100% perfect, (just try it!)
If I built them to the standards that you perhaps desire, I would still only be half way though the list. Now if i had only had to build half a dozen OR had a full time skinner helping me out, it might have been a different story.
Perfection was not quite my intention anyway, rather it was to improve the flight models to get them looking closer to Serg's and Denis's models
for that sake of consistancy, hats off to both of those said modders for raising the bar in the first place.

Denis's models are superior? - well yes he's a very talented guy
and Id agree that some of them certainly are superior, but perhaps you could try to appreciate that Denis didnt have to model 25+ planes within 6 months.. I think Denis himself will agree with me on this as he knows how time consuming 3D work can be, espcially when you have a full time job and a girlfriend to attend to.

Apart from the Rufe, I dont belive there is one plane that myself and denis have both modelled, correct me if I'm wrong here.
Personally - i will be using his aircraft in addition to our own :D

So to anyone else who doesnt like the appearance of the aircraft in 1.04 all I can say on my part is; Hell I tried, feel free to make your own or use the Ubi stock models.

Thats all.

Hi guys!

1. Great job on those planes. Brings so much more immersion to the game. Thank you to all involved.

2. Just a quick one: Will you also include Fw 190?

3. Kaptain, I happened to notice your harbor building textures on you plane screenshots. Are those from GWX 1.04? It seems a bit strange to me to see fuel/water tanks with brick texture. Plus on the screenshot with Arado float plane flying low over an uboat, those buildings in the background seem to have some strange texture mapping. A side of the building is brick with small windows, the other seems like having huge glass windows only. Sorry for hacking the thread. Maybe I should post these observations over PM?

Not a brainless thought at all and very good point, since you mention it - pretty much all Allied planes had the yellow tip, but on German planes the props where all black, hopefully there will be time to correct this.... we'll see.

Guys, Im not sure what you are hoping for but there was a sneak peak by Big BBW regarding improvments the campaign layers, the trouble is we can only post physcial images of graphical enhancements. There is much that cannot be shown in the form of pictures and the team is busy too working on 1.04 to write up a thesus on what they are doing.
Though im sure the manual will be updated accordingly, but please bear in mind that one of the main reasons for the 1.04 update was to provide new content and units to GWX, sorry if thats not what floats your boat.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the kind words mate. I know the guys appreciate them.

No sir, the Fw190 is not one of the aircraft on our radar. Our focus on new planes has primarily been concerning aircraft that could be expected to regularly serve in maritime functions. Fighter aircraft that exist in GWX are largely there because they remain from stock SH3 rosters and GWX previous builds. There was a short discussion at some point, where deleting certain fighters was discussed... and the idea was turned down.

Also surprised by the replacement of the US/UK camoed Hudson for a straight silver one. Ah well, you guys know best...Though it also isn't apparent by the screenshot, the Hudson scheme is grey... not silver.;)
I thought it was obvious in the screenshot that the Hudson was either two-tone grey, or light blue and white, both standard in the US navy. The camo scheme may be accurate for UK Hudsons, but not for the United States Navy.

At first I thought you guys had actually made a PV-1 Ventura! Silly me.:rotfl:

Not silly at all really, that IS historically a ventura paint job. The Hudsons skin was headache from the word go we wanted something as neutral as possible to fit all nations comfortably I wonder if we should have just cloned the darn thing. Anyways....

Well, the screenshots we have posted show the Beaufort... we have no Blenheims. I don't recall the roster entries that were decided on for it. All I can say at the moment is that there shouldn't be any innapropriate national entries for it.

Sorry SS, gotta disagree with you insofar as USN Hudson schemes. I researched this quite extensively. Here's a few (nowhere near all though) pages (with photos) to explain...
http://www.microworks.net/pacific/aviation/PBO_Hudson.htm
http://www.xs4all.nl/~fbonne/warbirds/ww2htmls/lockhudson.html
http://uboat.net/allies/aircraft/hudson.htm

In a nutshell the USN intercepted 20 Hudsons slated for the UK and pressed them into local service, same camo and all (didn't even appear to replace the standard UK dark earth tone with the standard US sand either).

This is why the camo colour scheme was originally recommended - it fitted both the UK (+ Cwlth) and US perfectly and accurately (remember that unless the team has since cloned the Hudson there is only one Hudson model in 1.04, so the same skin is shared by all countries).

But it's easy to replace skins.

Ah Thx for the repiles guys my mistake reguarding the beaufort
Looking very nice
Hope someone does do the blenheim oneday as it was used by the F.A.A, Costal command and bomber command.

The Beaufort was designed under specifications G.24/35 and M.15/35. The first prototype flew on 15 October 1938 and the aircraft entered production in 1939. The Beaufort was a twin-engined torpedo bomber, based on the Blenheim, however it was more heavy, with a crew of four. The Beaufort entered service with the RAF in 1940. It was the standard torpedo bomber from 1940 until 1943, but was never considered a successful type. A total of 2,080 aircraft were built, including 700 in Australia. The Australian version was built from 1939, with Pratt&Whitney Twin Wasp engines (1,200 hp).A total of 104 Beaufort IA, IIA and IIA trainers were transferred from the RAF to the Fleet Air Arm. All went to second line squadrons, mainly 798 and 728 squadrons. The FAA Beauforts were delivered mainly to Fayid, Dekheila, Ta kali, Safi, and Coimbatore. they served as trainers in 762 squadron at Dale until as late as 1946

The Blenheim

The first version to see service was the Bristol Blenheim Mk I, reaching RAF squadrons in 1937. A total of 1,552 of this model were built and was superseded by the Blenheim Mk IV in 1939. The Bristol Blenheim Mk IV was used as a medium bomber, long-range and night fighter, and intruder aircraft. It was the first Allied plane to fly across the German border after the war began, flying a photo-reconnaissance mission over Kiel, and the following day returning to bomb the German surface fleet and the U-Boat Arm. In total five thousand four hundred were built before production ceased in 1942. Serving in all combat areas and for North African and Middle East operations, a tropicalized version, the Blenheim Mk V, fitted with engine sand-filters was produced and flown on close support missions. Blenheims built in Canada were equipped with American engines and called Bolingbroke. Source: The War in the Air by Gene Gurney, Major, USAF and Jane's Fighting Aircraft of WWII

You guys having a change of heart and using my SH4 effects for SH3 in GWX now?

Hi Racerboy and all concerned, just to clarify a matter of GWX internal policy:

We have a policy against using SH4 material in GWX that is in line with SH4 user agreements set out by the SH4 development team.

For that matter, in testing GWX 1.04 material no external mods are allowed for the simple fact that we would not receive accurate test reports.

Following release, you will be free to examine the files for yourself if you wish. The effects that we use are largely unmodified from GWX 1.0 - GWX 1.03.

It is also our policy to ask permission if we hope to include any externally built community mod whether great or small.

Cheers all. I hope this tidbit is useful.

I stand corrected. At first sight of the sites you cited (I've been wanting to do that for years) I thought "Oh,sure, the first twenty were that way", but then I read the histories, and you're right: those were the only twenty the U.S. Navy ever had.

The PV-1 Ventura and PV-2 Harpoon were later developments.

Just a minor issue: DB-3F (that is the second with red stars in the screenshots) had only one pilot, as opposed to the screenshot there was no co-pilot and that was one of the main drawbacks of that plane - it was really exhausting to fly on long missions as it had only one pilot and no auto-pilot whatsoever.

GWX 1.04 is the latest version of GWX 1.03. Nothing is arranged yet but I think it should be possible to install it on top of GWX 1.03. Either way there will be detailed instructions with it so no need to worry about that ;)

As far as the versions there is only one version of GWX. It is though fully customised and if you have a low spec machine you can use the Harbour Traffic Mod that comes with GWX.

Can you find out from the "Others" to enlighten us as to what the load time is. TY

At SubClub the stat mission times are 90 min and 120 min it would be helpful to know what impact the stat mission writers are looking at when creating stat missions for the members. :)

Not this weekend they weren't....Jimbuna was away and it would appear that those that have tried are currently experiencing router port problems :o

We did play about 3 weeks back and load times are based on the computer capabilities of the host server.

Looking forward to this mod VERY MUCH!!! One of the main reasons I've played SH3 less is because the aircraft were--well--almost nonexistant in 41-42. Since planes were the u-boat's main nemisis, I look forward to see more. Hopefully over Biscay in 41 and especially 42 on.

To jimbuna: I agree. None-the-less u-boats were reporting more attacks by aircraft as '42 rolled along. The writing--while being a small font--was on the wall by the end of '42. And centimeter radar was being deployed on a wider scale as well.

Correct almost 50% of Uboats were sunk from the air.

You know what, Im just happy that we now have -pretty much- all the aircraft types that were ever historically credited for a Uboat sinking.
In fact i think the only one we are missing is the B-18 Bolo, that sunk 2 boats i think.
The British Aircraft Roster in 1.04 is now 17 aircraft types strong (and thats excluding clones) thats almost double the TOTAL number of aircraft types in SHIV!

After a short time playing with 1.3 I have to say that this mod is going to be brilliant.

I was amazed by the huge difference in feel that one gets just by installing a mod, it changes almost everything about the game and makes you play smarter...that is always a good thing.

Keep up the good work...hopefully it will be released before I leave the country so I will have some quality time before the big move.

Now I have a question to ask, but its not about the release date. Its about the weather in GWX. If I remeber correctly there was someone saying something about snow in winter time? I'd like to see aleast one pic of that before the release of 1.04. Speaking of weather why is it that there is always good weather on leaving a port and sometimes good weather when entering one? I'll give an example: One night in '42 I made a off in Vigo to get refuelled, the weather that night was heavy rain and fog. But the next day it was sunny, calm seas, and even a few dolphins swiming around in the harbor!! There is no way such weather can clear up that fast and go from fog and rain to suuny and clear in one night. Is this fixed in GWX 1.04?

There's no way to inplement snow in SH3 without messing all the rest of the weather effects.
The starting weather is fixed (can be changed, but it always will look the way you changed it), that's why you see the weather nice when starting a patrol even when the last night was rainy.
As for the weather changing suddenly, I've seen a lot of times (in RL) changing from awfull to calm in a couple of hours, normally when a strom front passes the weather is fine.
