Hi all

In many flight sim games there are skins that you overlay your artwork for the lines, rivets and such so that all yo must do is paont,, add the detail layer and finish,
Are there such templates/layers for the U-boats available somewhere?

Thank you

Don't think so...
But you can always take any of Fubars skins and base your work on his (cause his work is really high quality).
There is also a skinning tutorial somewhere on this forum, but thats all...

I was called?

I don't have templates as such, certainly not like the IL2 skins the OP is referring to.

However, I have extracted all the files needed to skin the VIIB/C & IXB/C/D2 and placed them in JSGME ready packages.

The OP mentioned things like rivets being on layers etc, however, you can maintain the underlying details of such things by having your paint layer set to overlay.

Here's the links:

VII Type Boats - http://files.filefront.com/VII+Textu.../fileinfo.html (http://files.filefront.com/VII+Textures7z/;7587495;/fileinfo.html)

IX Type Boats - http://files.filefront.com/IX+Textur.../fileinfo.html (http://files.filefront.com/IX+Texturesrar/;6514266;/fileinfo.html)

They are high res skins from the original GW package and Fubar made them.

Once other commitments are finished I may look at creating some proper templates. Don't know yet.

I just started making skins about a month ago - not as easy as I expected and there's a lot of trial-and-error, particulary with the conning tower. The VII and IX are different skins, and are mapped to the boat slightly differently as well. My recommendation (which I got from a tutorial Danlisa put together) is to start w/ the basic (SH3 or GWX) skin, then make a bunch of colored grids and either copy these .tga files over or use JSGME to do it for you. Then take some screenshots (Ctrl-F11) to see where these skins wind up.

Feel free to ask questions, too, to either me or anyone else in the forum who's posted a skin lately.

Ya I started a few weeks ago. I started by reading the forum posts and learn. I extracted the TGA's from the DAT files. I also used Fubar work to compare and tests. Later once I became familiar I redid all detail textures new. I only use the original tga layers as reference and shadow details. Trial and Error I always say.

Ubisoft isn't likely to shipout a SDK pack anytime soon.:shifty:

Now if your asking for a complete template with all the individual layers? I haven't seen one out yet. My templates for Photoshop are averaging around 400megs :damn:
Now my templates are finished, working is easier and faster now.:yep:

why don't you all use a whole new TGA for the conning tower? It's a simple hex edit change and import and voila, your own seperate TGA for the conning tower so you don't have problems sharing it with others. This way you can paint it the way you want. :hmm:
