Does anyone have any knowledge of changing the availability of U-Boats with SH3 Cmdr and GWX 1.03. According to the SH3Cmdr help files i just have to change the date in the U-boat availability.cfg' located in the SH3 Commander\Cfg folder. What i would like to know is what program takes preference, does GWX overide SH3Cmdr or vice versa?, also by doing this would i mess up any part of the game under GWX? Mainly i would like to bring the availability of the Type XXI forward by a few months for the 11th Flottila, does anyone see this causing problems.

Also in the SH3Cmdr U-Boat availability folder there are entries for the type VIIC/42 which doesn't become available until june 1945, has anyone tried bringing this forward, and if so does it work ok with GWX.

Thanks for any replies

I've been working on this too.

I'm going to copy and paste the two text files into this thread, you can paste them into your files, but do not forget to make backups.

Ok. They won't completly fit... I will post them for downloads, and report back with links and give you a summery of what is not yet working with them.

Kodaita and I have come up with these files.

My original intention was to bump the Type XXI from its current date to 2/3s through 1943.

My experience using these two .cfg(s).

Start of the war in 1939 the uboats that are normally available are availble, nothing more.

After 11th flotilla is formed, you can join that flotta and choose any boat available throught the war from any time, or flotta.

BUGS:

While operating out of Bergen, you are subject to spontaneous transfers to first flotta and game will give a message, "Transfered to Brest". When it does that, when you leave port, you will not spawn in port, but at 0 latitute and 0 longitute. Which is south of Ghana. If you remain in 1st then there should not be any more problems

I cannot explain why this happens, and to me, it looks like the type XXI should be avialbe to all flottas anywhere, I don't know why it is not working.

((Any insite from "Real" Modders would be a God send))

Actually, I cannot explain why it transfers you to first, but the reason you spawn at those coordinates is because there are no set cords for the type xxi to spawn for the 1st flotta, because the xxi is not normally available for the 1st flotta. "Why would it transfer you there then?"

Dont know. It also gives you the mission, Patrol Gird 0. Which since there is no grid listing for type xxi out of first flotta, its running home to mama on this one.

I simply don't know how to fix this stuff. For what it's worth, here it is.

I liked my old avatar better. Not too fond of the Japanese guy...

Never served in the Jap navy, in any game...

As it's the last to run, SH3Cmdr takes preference (otherwise, how will your other settings make it into the game?).

But remember, changing the availability dates does only that...changes the availability dates. It does not alter the boat types used by each flotilla. For that, you need to alter flotilla.cfg. And you may also need to edit basic.cfg to ensure that you get a conning tower, or other pieces of key equipment if you bring the date too far forward (for example, changing the XXI date to 1939 will yield a IIA tower if you don't re-date the XXI tower too).

Also keep in mind that SH3Cmdr works aound SH3's "one size fits all" approach. In SH3, all flotillas get their boats (the ones allocated to them anyway) at the same time. SH3Cmdr allows you to set the dates based on the individual flotilla. So also keep that in mind when changing the SH3Cmdr file.

Anyway, I've worked extensively on the flotilla files and know them inside out (I created the GWX ones from scratch using a tool that I developed specifically to automate the process). I even created a new "fantasy flotilla"; a special and elite training unit operating first out of Hamburg and then out of Danzig/Gdansk (IIRC)...where the player gets access to all the fun stuff (boats and equipment) well before the historic dates and is sent into the Baltic to test, even in action if they stumble across enemy ships. It's a new non-historic flotilla but with a plausible (albeit exagerrated) story - I envisaged it being a starting ground for players to find their way around the game and the boats/equipment before transferring into a front-line flotilla. All works fine as my implementation included the changes necessary to get the boats correctly playing at any time in any flotilla and with valid patrol grids; changes that are missing from all examples posted on this forum (especially the "XXI in 1939" threads).

But alas, my interest in SH3 is now nil, and I have deleted the mod.

@Spruence M: It's not just basic.cfg and flotilla.cfg that needs your attention. Failing to edit the campaign_LND.mis file to ensure base coordinates match those in flotilla.cfg will yield the exact problem that you are experiencing.

@JScones. Thanks for the info about the LND, if I get a "Preverbial Devorce" from my girlfriend, I might have time to learn some things, and actually make a contribution to the community, which I would take a real pride in doing.

I do have a question: You said your interest in SH3 is now nill. What games do you spend your time on? I am curious because of your immense contributions to the game.

No games atm. I'm on holidays from work for a few months (only four weeks to go, sob sob) and I've been spending my time lately going through my music collection (both CD and LP) and in particular expanding my Beatles LP collection. ;)
