Hi for everyone!
Well,folks...finally i have been able to finish what i started some two months ago..there was a bit of working with the seafoam for the ROW and it took most of my time in last weeks...but now when foam is finished, i had time to finish my other work...
First i have to say that this community has given me so much, so it's my turn to give something back...that's how it works best...right???
So here you are: Stowa Kriegsmarine deck watch,(three different flavours, two of them in pictures below), and Metal Hud with dials....Both are SH4 v. 1.4 compatible......take a look first:
-1-
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/jaketoox/stowa_standard-1.jpg
-2-
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/jaketoox/hud_chrono_day.jpg
-3-
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/jaketoox/HUD_NIGHT.jpg
-GRAYBARS-
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/jaketoox/graybar.jpg
[EDIT] GRAYBARS added..another change in here is a bit darker dialrings too.
...so that's how they look...interested..???....
...ok now...the installation part:
-1- download
-2- extract to a folder
-3- browse the extracted folder, and when you see the readme-file: according to Stowa Kriegsmarine, copy one of the folders to your JSGME mods folder, and enable it with JSGME....same procedure goes with Metal Hud,but there's only one folder to choose, copy it to JSGME mods folder and enable it...now just enjoy:sunny:

THESE ARE FULLY GRAPHICAL MODS, THEY DON'T AFFECT IN ANY WAY TO YOUR menu1024_768.ini AND THERE IS NO NEED TO TWEAK IT TO MAKE THESE MODS TO WORK!!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to leovampire for testing these mods, and thanks to Ubisoft for making modder-friendly game like this..
Legal stuff can be found on readmes included on these mods
Suggestios and opinions are more than welcome, and i will answer the questions(if there's any) every now and then,....you know, i would like to actually PLAY THE GAME too...at least some times...:rotfl::rotfl:
[EDIT]
__________________________________________________ ____
I was thinking a bit (happens here too, but rarely...:rotfl:) and just thought that you may have some wishes about appearance of MetalHud....for example what would brushed steel look like for the bars, maybe in two different versions, dark and light...would that be cool??...any kind of combinations are possible...
Also i thought that i can make separate downloads available for DIALS and HUD, so you can make your own mixture of them...original versions will stay as they are now.
So i only need some feedback, and i'll see what i can do.

COMPASS HEADING INDICATOR FOR METALHUD AND DIALRINGS REPLACEMENT MOD.
Compass heading indicator is an addon for your existing MetalHud installation.
Dialrings replacement is a mod which replaces any existing rings around gauges on your hud, and adds heading indicator for the compass. So now you can have exactly the same dialrings, like in the MetalHud.
Both mods are included in the same package and they come in two flavours, bright and dark...just select one of them to enable with JSGME.
[EDIT]
Before you proceed, you need to download and install jimimadrid's great tool, called JTxE. With that tool you don't need to modificate your menu_1024_768.ini by yourself. Link to the thread is HERE (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=668176&posted=1#post668176)

CREDITS: to jimimadrid for the compass heading indicator.
THANKS: to Canonicus for testing.
INSTALLATION
-1- Download
-2- Extract to a folder
-3- DIVE to extracted folder, and you find JSGME- ready folders, select one, and enable with JSGME
-4-Download JTxE-files, extract to a folder, where you can find two files, DIALRINGS.ini and MH_COMPASS.ini. Copy the one related with your selected mod, to your ini_Mods folder and enable it with JTxE.

This does look pretty cool - thanks for making this available. Just one question - I note that the fuel/battery indicators are slid over to the right in your pictures above - is that a function of this mod, or some other mod you're using? More specifically, does this mod actually change the number/locations of order bar buttons (and the fuel/battery indicators), or does it leave them in their same positions and just change the coloring? I'm using SH4Speech which is dependent (for some of its capabilities) on the positions of these order bar locations, so if this changes any of those locations/configurations (and not just the colors) I'll either have to skip it or figure out how to tell SH4Speech about the new locations (which is doable, but I'm not sure how much trouble it would be as I've never tried it yet).

I just checked in my own game from the one he changed for me to the original hud and didn't see any change in possition plus he didn't change anything in the menu files at all just the texture colors and work. Only the DDS file for the hud and what not has been worked with.

I don't fully understand what you mean by that...sorry, not born to speak or write english:oops:....well there are a(quite) big number of mods that i'm using, so it's possible that they are affecting......there are no other tweaks in this than graphical change..

It should not change anything compared to stock files...this is completely made out of stock v.1.3 files without any other than graphical changes applied.
Hope this was helping:lol:

I think what you are seeing is differences in screen resolution. For instance, someone who runs at 1024x768 will see fewer orders buttons than those who run higher resolutions. The reason that the battery/etc indicators look shifted to the right is because the game compensates for differences in horizontal resolution by leaving more blank space between the end of the buttons and the rest of the HUD. sh4speech handles all of the adjustments necessary for the differences in resolution.

Thanks DT, nice to hear you like it....and thanks for clarifying what panthercules ment about that.....really, i have an old 17'' CRT by Philips:rock:....and it feels like looking through the porthole when trying to make mods and play the game:damn:...heck i wonder if someone else is using CRT:s anymore for playing this game these days.....:nope:

Funny you should mention CRTs. I just retired my 17" KDS for a Samsung 20" wide screen. That's one of the reasons I noticed the big gap in the center of the HUD. This game is getting expensive, first the video card, then the monitor and now I'm seriously considering spending next months food allowance on upgrading from my Socket A system to something a little more "new fangled".:rotfl:

Could the bar that is yellow in color be made gray? I like all the other colors but the yellow/tannish looking bar would be nice in gray. At least for me. I like the watch a lot. I love Oakgrooves but he did make the textures as the controls look today and not fresh out of dry dock. Still a wonderful mod. Anyway, gray would be cool for the bottom bar and brass looking colors for the rings around the guages. The it would look like the USS Torsk and the brass I polish every weekend.

That would be cool! The original Torsk colors were gray (battleship gray). Over the years the layers of different colors is just nuts. I buffed a electrical panel in the forward engine room down to the bare metal for repaint to the original coat....there were 7 layers of different paint. Just like the Navy, if it not bolted down, throw it out. If it is bolted down, paint it! So yeah, gray and brass colors around the guages would be awesome.

..well, that's interesting idea....regarding to the dial rings, i run through menu1024_768.ini, and found out that it can be done, only 9 lines needs to be changed there, to make it work...haven't tested it though....
So, you propably will have changeable dialrings too,and they can be added to any dials you may have installed...

That's fantastic!, Jake...that way no matter the dial your using, be it your's or Oakgrooves , or even stock , you could add the nice shinny brass outer rings to the gauges to get a real nice look. You could have the best of both worlds, so to speak and customize a look you like.

It is a visual enhancment and give's a bit of a rusted look to the Bridge visable stuff that blended in to easily before. It also applies that color to the Sound head on the forward deck.

I loved the look of this while I was testing out ROW + stock, but now that I've gone back to my normal RFB + ROW install, it turns out that this seems to conflict with RFB in some ways, in that some of the pictures on the buttons of the orders bar (like the "report weather conditions" button) don't appear when using this mod.
I tried installing just the dial rings part, and that worked OK but I didn't get the cool engine telegraph indicators changes that way (or, of course, the whole cool metallic look on the whole HUD).
Is there any way to make this work with RFB 1.31? Can you just do something that changes the dials and the areas around the buttons without changing the button faces themselves?
This looks so good, I hate not being able to use it without sacrificing the RFB button capabilities.

Just an educated guess: RFB must be using CaptainCox's HUD, which includes Weather Report and extra Search Patterns. I have that mod (not RFB though, thus the educated guess), and had to do some fiddling around to adapt it to some other HUD mods I'm using. I'll try and see if I can incorporate Jake's work to CaptainCox's. Will report back tomorrow with my progress.

Take the blahblahblah\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\HUD.dds file from RFB, copy it somewhere, rename it to HUD1.dds, then move it into the Data\Menu\Gui\Layout folder in Jakes mod. Then copy the blahblahblah\Data\Menu\cfg\OrdersBar.cfg file from RFB (or the stock game if there is none in RFB) into the appropriate folder in Jakes mod (or create the appropriate folder if there isn't one in Jake's mod) and open it with notepad (or your favorite text editor) and change all instances of HUD.dds to HUD1.dds. This will give you the button icons from RFB, but everything else from Jakes mod when you enable it and return you to stock RFB whenever you disable it. As usual, use at your own risk.

Digital_Trucker: It's not that easy, I'm afraid. That way, you're actually keeping the HUD color and layout of RFB, and only the buttons from Metal Hud. Or I might be talking out of my exhaust pipe, once again :p I'll try out your solution as well.

Sorry about the editing thing. I realized I left out an important step and wanted to get it in there before anyone read it.
That method is the same as I used to do a workaround for Jakes mod and my Mess Hall Sink Mod combo. Evidently there must have been some miscommunication regarding it, or noone noticed the differences. I believe that the only change that needs to be made to the cfg file is to change the line that says
ButtonIconImage=HUD.tga to ButtonIconImage=HUD1.tga
That should keep the button icons from RFB, but make all the other changes.
My apologies for any problems. Guess I'm getting old faster than I thought.

Cool - thanks - I'll give that a try. Sorry to hear Jake's under the weather, and I appreciate your stepping up in his absence here. Once I get this last bit of tweaking done, I might just actually get out of port for a day or two before Leo issues more ROW updates
[EDIT] - OOPS - slight hitch here - when I went to look at the RFB mod files to get the HUD,dds like you said above, I found two other HUD tga files in there too (HUD.tga and HUD_AdversarialMode.tga) - I guess I'll try your suggestion with just the HUD.dds file anyway, but do you have any idea what these .tga files do and whether I might need them too?
Digital_Trucker
11-10-07, 02:34 PM
and the second post I made is accurate. Just change the one instance of hud.tga to hud1.tga and you should have what you are looking for.
I don't know why the cfg file references the .tga file but uses the .dds file. I don't have any changes made to the .tga files in my game and I still get my custom button icons and jakes metal hud. I think the game uses the .dds file no matter what, so you shouldn't have to mess with any of the .tga files.
Let us know how it works out.
Edit: If you don't play multiplayer, then the HUD_AdversarialMode.tga won't need any changing. I don't think Jakes mod changes that one either.

Fascinating - your suggestion worked, to a degree (I noticed that there were no references to HUD.dds in the RFB orderbar.cfg file - only references were to the .tga file, so I renamed and moved it in as well along with the renamed RFB HUD.dds. There were about 3 or 4 references to the HUD.tga in that orderbar.cfg file, so I changed them all. This is what I got:

Not exactly what I was looking for, but close. Now I may have to check out the graybar version of Jake's work to see if that would go better with the old/RFB order bar portion. Ultimately, I'd still like to have the full-blown version of Jake's work that just doesn't mess with the actual order buttons but changes all the areas around them, but I don't know if that's possible.
And as long as I'm making my wish list here, I'd just as soon stick with the green indicators on the buttons and the fuel/battery etc, indicators, rather than the blue, in case that's something that's an easy tweak to revert to (I figured that the buttons might have to stay green anyway if the Jake work was going to leave the buttons alone, but also I kinda like the green/red color scheme better anyway - looks more like the dive board Christmas tree and other similar indicators, which seems more realistic/natural to me for some reason).

Well, the hybrid approach using the Graybars version of Jake's mod looks pretty decent (better that the other one, I think):
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y96/Cladean/SH4HybridGraybars-RFBHUD.jpg
It will certainly do until somebody figures out if a combo with RFB buttons and Jaketoox everything else can be made to work. Thanks for the tips

Check this post http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=690171&postcount=47 . If you only change the one entry, then you should end up with what you were looking for. Only change the ButtonIconImage line. Sorry for the confusion.

Is there a way I can get the button icons when using the All-in-one-Orders Bar mod from NefariousKoel?
Button Icons missing are:
On Navigation Map Station - Report time to turn and Report Range to Course End;
On the Periscope Station - Identify Target;
On the Bridge Station - Report Nearest Visual Contact and Report Weather;
On the Sonar Station - Follow Nearest Warship Contact and Normal Sweep.

Jaketoox took the HUD from Jimimadrid's work that I liked and then applied his modifications to it for me and my game the way I asked him to with the yellow battery fuel bar and more.
As far as I know Jake did get permission from Jim to use his work like that but I guess he just hasn't released it to the public yet.
He was doing a lot of work for the ROW mod for us and for the time being I guess he stoped going further with this.
I will send him a PM and let him know others are interested in it and see if he will post it for a download.
I have a lot of custom stuff from people. Like Sober combined his Bridge Telegraph and Compus work to the other stuff Jaketoox did for me. As you will see bellow.

There are also now black radar masts too instead of that light gray color.

The same procedure I described above (as ammended in the second post) will accomplish what you are looking for. It does require a little bit of file manipulation and editing one line of a .cfg file.
I'll restate the procedure to make up for the earlier confusion.
Let's say that we have two mods. We'll call them Mod A and Jakes mod. Mod A (RFB, TM, All-in-one-orders-bar) has buttons that aren't in the stock command bar. You want to use Jakes interface graphics but still have the commands and button icons that are in Mod A. For the rest of this discussion, wherever you see [Mod A] substitute the name of the folder that contains Mod A. Wherever you see [Jakes mod], substitute the name of the folder that contains Jakes interface mod. Wherever you see blahblahblah substitute the name of the folder that you installed your game to.
First, deactivate the mod you want to keep the icons from (RFB, TM, All-in-one-orders bar-[called Mod A]) and deactivate Jake's mod (if it was already activated).
Copy the blahblahblah\MODS\[ModA]\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\HUD.dds file to any place you want.
Rename that file to HUD1.DDS
Move that file into the blahblahblah\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout folder.
Create a folder named cfg in the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu folder.
Copy the blahblahblah\MODS\[ModA]\Data\Menu\cfg\OrdersBar.cfg file into the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\cfg folder.
Open the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\cfg\OrdersBar.cfg file up with notebook or any text editor and change the line that says ButtonIconImage=HUD.tga to ButtonIconImage=HUD1.tga
Activate "Mod A"
Activate Jakes mod
When you have both activated, you will have Jakes interface graphics and the icons for the commands in "Mod A"
When Jakes mod is deactivated you will have the original interface graphics from "Mod A" and it's control button icons.
You probably should call Jakes mod something like Jakes mod for Mod A since it should be used in conjunction with Mod A.

No, I'd missed that one somehow - that worked perfectly to change just that one line instead of all 4 like I did before. Now, just gotta go check the ROW post to make sure I haven't missed an update from Leo, and then it'll finally be time to put out to sea - thanks for the help

The woes of not having internet at home: you keep reinventing the wheel! :damn:
Anyway, I went with the .dds manipulation approach, and produced a Jake metal HUD (all the colors) with CaptainCox's buttons layout from Search Pattern Mod (again, not sure which one RFB uses, the one I used as reference is found here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=594405#post594405)). You will need the OrdersBar.cfg and menu.txt files from that mod for the "hybrid" to work...
...and I just remembered what I had forgotten to do: take screenshots of my work! :damn:
Anyway, if things don't work out for you I'll upload it, with screenshots AND proper instructions (that's a note-to-self, really)
ETA: well, you can scratch all of the above. I checked out RFB, and it looks like I'll have to download that mod to gain access to the HUD it's using...

Ok, done an RFB-friendly version of Metalhud (both versions). You'll retain all the colors of Metalhud mod, with all the buttons from RFB. If anyone's interested, I'll upload or send to Jake so he can publish it...if the RFB crew is ok with that, that is.

That's one of the reasons that I prefer manual workarounds (as long as the user can handle it). No permissions necessary because you're not actually doing anything with anyone else's files, you're just telling folks how to "do it themselves" for their own use.

Got it. Works great thanks for the heads up DT:up:
Simply:
1. I renamed the HUD.dds in the ALL-IN-One to HUD1.dds then copy and pasted it into Jakes mod where the HUD.dds is located. Then renamed the HUD1 back to HUD in All-In One.
2. I copied the cfg folder from All-In-One and pasted it into Jakes Mod.
3. I opened the OrderBar.cfg in the now located cfg folder in Jakes Mod and changed the line ButtonIconImage=HUD.tga to HUD1.tga
4. Enabled All-In-One then enabled Jakes Mod. and all is well. :)

Ok, since my previous attempt of helping out in here was struck by a spectacular case of foot-in-mouth disease (I'm still recovering from it...I think! :D), here's an offer for jaketoox:

A little something to further spice up his fantastic MetalHUD, cause I find the original rudder and depth indicators quite boring, actually.
Interested, jake?

I have a great HUD from Jake that was a redo of the one that Jimimadred did originaly but those needle's I do like the idea of.

Yes, it's the needles only that I'm offering. It's a single .dds file redone, so you can use it with pretty much every other HUD mod out there (I've seen this, jimimadrid's and Oakgrove's HUDs, and only jimimadrid's touches that file...that's the one I used as inspiration and worked on). Jake was interested too, so I've PMed him with a link to where I have them stashed, so he can incorporate them with his work.

Thankfully there were no changes in the patch 1.4, that could make this mod to malfunction in a way or another...so it's safe to say that this is 1.4 compatible.
DrBeast (Thanks:up:) offered me new needles for MetalHud, you can find them in the end of the first post.
