Hello,
I have not been using SH3 Gw for long but love it so far. One problem I am experiencing is with the sky display during the day. There are clouds in the sky but otherwise it is black and the sea has a strange glowing quality. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi, welcome to Subsim.

Sounds as if you're scene.dat is corrupted. Either by not rolling back SH3Cmdr before adding extra mods or by trying to view the scene.dat with notepad.

Hopefully, you have a backup installation where you can just copy the working scene.dat into your current install. Otherwise, it's repair or reinstall.

Sorry the news isn't better.

EDIT - I can't at the moment, but if you can tell us whether you are using GW or GWX, we might be able to upload a clean copy. Hint, GWX starts with a noisy wolf.

I am using GWX. It would be great if you could upload a new file. I do not have a backup file that I am aware of. Thanks for your help.

Here's the GWX 1.03 scene.dat. Unpack to Silent Hunter III/Data/

It is still not working. For example, at 1500, where there are no clouds, the sky is completely black. I appreciate your patience in helping me fix this.

Rollback Sh3 commander first, then copy this file which Dowly uploaded for you as he already said in Silent Hunter 3/Data and after that try again. Try it when you are in base, or better start a new patrol and then see.

If using SH3 Commander, perform a rollback.
Disable any mods you have enabled via JSGME
Check the backup folder in Mods is empty.

If all else fails....here is another option you might want to consider.....life can be a right PITA

1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6.Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

Your getting 8k & 16k atmosphere mods mixed up, it's a combo of Env Skycolors & Scene.dat file.:yep:

That's a very creditable point.
I remember approx 6 months back spending the entire evening on TS with danlisa and melnibonian trying to find the solution to this very same problem.
The only common ground we could deduce was that it sometimes occured when engaging the 16km atmosphere mod :hmm:

I started a new patrol and the sky was fine. Now I have to figure out why it did not record my tonnage after my first patrol - to include sneaking into Plymouth and sinking the Hood!

@ Jimbuna, after a lot of work on the SHIV Scene.dat file there is a setting for viewing distance & changing this by 1 (negative or posative) the sky goes black, one of the reasons it's stuck on 9k!:-? Also if you run GWX SHIII scene.dat 8k but use the 16k Env skycolor the sky will turn black, it has to do with viewing distance!:yep: Another part of changing the SHIV viewing distance (another setting), vieing from a great hieght shows the world as being flat & square, boats would fall off the edge, maybe this is how it should be, Christopher Columbus may have been wrong!!
