hi captains
2 quests for you
1/ last night i left Bordeux (june 1943) heading west. At the middle of BE square i attacked sequentially by squads
of mosquitos, wellingtons, sunderlands. i avoided going deep and changed course south.
At be99 same happend.changed course N and at be38 i attacked again . i changed course and headed to AL (borders AL-AM)
west of Ireland and attacked again.
is this normal? because i was far away from coast.
2/ during those attacks i prefered to defend myself using my a/a guns. when the watch officer spotted
the planes comming, i ordered to engage.then the deck gun crew took positions and started firing.
to stop them i mooved them from their positions because when i ordered to halt they didnt obeyed.
any idea about those?
i use gwx 1.03
ps thanks to gwx dev team about the job that have done so far and for the upcoming 1.04
cheers
:ping:

BE is obviously within range of an airbase, probably in Northern Ireland or Iceland, with those aircraft based there. I can't comment on how realistic it was but from 1943 onwards air attacks are the bane of the Uboat skipper's life.

I never have problems getting my AA gunners to stop. I always have problems getting them to start firing. :D What are you telling them to do? Use the WO to change your AA firing orders. I normally set them to fire at will, at medium range against all aircraft types but only approaching aircraft. This seems to me to give the greatest chance of a kill depending on what guns you have.

Historically however it is best to do what the RL kaleun did and crash dive whenever you think an aircarft of any type is around. Not only can they attack you themselves but they can also call for reinforcements if they are about and that can mean not only other aircraft but also ships.

By 1943 There were very few hinding places for Uboats, the blanket of allied air coverage had very few gaps in it... Mid atlantic is just about the only safe haven. Just look at air coverage on the map that you got with SH3 :yep:

By mid '44 there is no place in the north Atlantic with out full Air cover.
