Is there anyway to go around the restriction it has for the resolution? Or would that be hardcoded? I really want to make myself a very high resolution skin (2048 x 2048). :hmm:

Thanks for the help!

re-UV map the 3D model with a higher resolution. When you go to create texture choose the higher resolution you want to use.

Bud, do you still have the original GW? All the skins were 2048 x 2048.;) I might have copies of the TGAs from GW if you need them.

I think, the player boats are fully scaleable, you could make a 4096 x 4096 if you wanted, just need to make a new TGA.

Danlisa if you still have original GW may I have a copy too. :)

4096x4096 hmmm sound good.

Do I have to image size it before I save the file or will SH3 accept the 4096 tga file as is?:hmm:

Well, the thing is, if you want to create a 4096 skin, you will need to double the size/rez of the 2048 and then repaint the TGA as the enlarging process will blur the details but it could be used as a template. If you just resize the TGA files, you will not get a higher rez, it needs repainting.

As for the 2048 skins from GW, I have those as a separate pack (VIIB/C & IXB/C/D2), the Type 2 & 21 will require repackng of their DAT files and as such I never bothered, partly due to the fact I never use them but can certainly extract and upload them. You will, however, need to pack them into the respective DAT for your version of the game.

VII Textures (2048) - HERE (http://files.filefront.com/VII+Textures7z/;7587495;/fileinfo.html)

IX Textures (2048) - HERE (http://files.filefront.com/IX+Texturesrar/;6514266;/fileinfo.html)

These are packed into JSGME ready folders, just enable & go.

Thanks & Credit go to Fubar who originally created these for GW. Top work.

Ow... I remembered that the limit was 1024x1024... oh well.. glad I was wrong! ;)

Thanks for the files Dan! Tho, I was more of a looking a type II. But no worries, I can reskin the boat from scratch.

LOL, none of the textures in SH3 are limited in size/rez.

Well, mate, I can get you the Type 2 textures in 2048 as I have GW1.1a extracted on an external drive.

It's no biggie but you will have to pack them back into the correct GWX DAT file.

No need. I just made a 4096 x 4096 version of the GWX 1.03's type II. adjusted it with a contrast & sharpen tool, now waiting for the mission to load! :rotfl:46megs of pure Type IIA power!

LOL mate.

I'm pretty sure it's going to look bad.:p Plonker, you have not increased the resolution of the skin, you've just resized it. You know perfectly well, that when you enlarge/reduce images in PS, you loose details. The whole point of higher rez's is to include more detail.

:rotfl::rotfl:The glory of 4096 x 4096 with the quality of 1024 x 1024. Hahahahaha. Hell, mate that's like me using my PSP on a cinema screen.

Heck, I made a higher rez IIA last night from 512x512 to 1024x1024 with the tools and worked great. But.. I think I try the 2048 x 2048... my SHIII is using close to 1gig of memory atm and it has been loading for fecking 20mins. Adn this is 1.03. :rotfl:

LMAO, with a 46mb texture, your game is going to corpse. How does 2-3 fps in port sound? Hahahaha.:rotfl::rotfl:What good is your 8800 now!:rotfl:

I'm going to extract the high res version of the Type 2 and compare them cos I know that just resizing (& tweaking) is not going to be the same level of quality.

Hmmm, well I guess that means a 4096 x 4096 tga file for the Death Star in GWX is out of the question due to the space-dock traffic.:-?

I was worried about this. I'm working on IXb textures now at 4096. I was going to image size it to 2048 and try it out on SH3. But you beat me to it Dowly. ;)

Thanks Danlisa for the links. I already talked to fubar about using his texture for another project I'm working on. I like it but the Rez doesn't do it for me. :shifty:

Here's the link to my other work.

So when you guys started talking about higher rez's I couldn't resist.

I had to join in. :p

A Question. When creating a new file it ask you for Resolution? I see it normally at 72 but I change it to 300 does that do anything in photoshop?:hmm:

That's the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution. Really, 72 is for screen display, 100-120 standard printers & 300 is for high quality prints.

For your purposes, leave it at 72, otherwise the file size within PS will be restrictive. If you create a file in PS that's 10mb in size, PS uses 100mb of system resources just for the blank page before anything is added. Crank the DPI Rez up to 300 and you can imagine the file size you are working with.

Like I said to Dowly. Anytime you resize an image (up or down) you loose detail. When rescaling up, you are adding in pixels and visa versa, now PS has to 'guess' what to make those pixels 'look' like and it does quite a good job but not at those resolutions. If you want a skin in 2048, start at 2048.

Ya I found that out last night. I sized 1024 to 4096 and ouch it was blurry. I'm repainting it now, I'm also making a template with all the layers for each item in the pic. Right now Im finishing each rivit on the main hull. :damn:
