View Full Version : Turm Emblem no longer showing

I am now the proud owner of a Cobalt VIIc complete with exhaust smoke (thanks again Racerboy:)). Problem is that since upgrading from VIIb - I am no longer able to see my emblem on the side of the turm (U-83 had a viking ship in a blue circle) even though it is selected in the U-boat maintenance screen in port. When using the standard VIIc prior to getting the Cobalt mod the emblem was also missing. Has anybody any ideas of how I can get it back?

hummm ... try changing it to something else ... then go back to your desk and look at patrol history or something .. then go back to the sub screen and change it again back to what you had before.... maybe it'll re fresh it ..... just guessing that it'll fix it :-?

Thanks Slow n ez, tried your recommendation but I still have no emblem. When I am in port and can make the selections, the sub shows the emblem on the side of the turm but not when I go in game (there is no emblem whatsoever).
Bigboywooly, I am running GWX, SH Commander and a host of other mods such as the wakes mod, elite crew mod, radio mod etc. Significantly, I am running the cobalt VIIc-41 mod but when I have had the Fubar Grey Skin mod none have shown the emblem. This is a shame as I would really like to get the emblem on the side of my U-boat. Help appreciated here guys.

Is the Fubar grey skin mod just a TGA or a DAT file ?
If its a DAT file its probably conflicting with GWX or another mod you have

On looking in the file structure, the Fubar Grey Skin is TGA and when I look in the Cobalt structure it seems to be DAT. I am running the Cobalt Skin but none of this makes sense (please bear in mind that I am not hyper computer literate as some of you guys are). Does this help mate.

Oh puleeeeeaase. Have you not seen these mods before and are you interested in them (if so I apologise for my previous remark)? If you are trying to question where I got them from or what I have called them (I have tried to give as much info to Bigboywooly as possible in the hope that he can help) then I stand by the remark above. I have downloaded ALL of the listed mods from this forum and for example the twisty periscope thingy mod was downloaded from the dmlavan entry on 26 Aug 07. I am not going to list the dates etc for all of the downloads as I have a patrol to get on with. Hey guys, all I would like to do here is have a nice emblem on the side of my VIIC.

The imblem in question is called Viking Drakkar.tga which I uploaded here for you :

BUT .. be sure to check and see if you already have one in there ... if you do then don't bother downloading the one I mention above as its probably the same .....

those from your list also so they should be good and not be causing any conflicts ....the

might be causing a conflict .... the 1_03_alpha should have everything that the 1_02 version has... but I never used that mod so not really sure ...

might be causing a conflict .... the 1_03_alpha should have everything that the 1_02 version has...but I never used that mod so not really sure ...
the RB_SH4_Effects_xxxxx wouldn't cause the problem. The problem the user is reporting was there before these mods and before the Cobalt mod they installed.
You are correct in that the version number after my mod incorporates everything prior to it.

I would imagine that there is a confict between these 2 mods:
Twistyperiscope ThingyMod + Cobalt VIIC41
They both make changes to the dat files which govern the conning towers. Disable/enable them one at a time to see which is causing the trouble.
My bet is the Twistyperiscope ThingyMod or the fact that you have both enabled.

Slow_n_ez. Thanks for the info. I have checked to see if the viking drakkar.tga is in the folder - it is. As you recommended, I have not downloaded your link then. I will try disabling the earliest of the RB Special effects to see if it helps but I'm sure this was happening before I downloaded these mods.
Spruence M. Apologies for my 'shot across your bows'. I thought you were questioning my methods of getting the listed mods. Yes they are good ones and if you have any difficulty in finding any of them in the forum, let me know and I will see if I can give you more information:up:.
Racerboy. Thanks for the input, it is nice to know that the Cobalt mod shouldn't be causing the conflict - you are right though, ever since I have had the VIIC (Cobalt or Fubar Grey Skin) enabled after the VIIB there has been no sign of my emblem.
Danlisa. Thanks for your advice. I have disabled twisty periscope (my DF no longer goes round :rotfl:) but I still cannot see my emblem. I am reluctant to disable my Cobalt mod as this was happening before I downloaded it and I have had quite a hard time getting it working with that 'oh so sexy exhaust smoke' from Racerboy.
Is there anyway I can attach this emblem to MY copy of Cobalts skin? Please bear in mind that my modding skills are non-existant:cry:.

If you have disabled the twisty periscope mod & your RDF loop no longer rotates, you have another mod which has changed the turm.dat. Skins packed into DAT files have been known to do this. Have you ever enabled a mod without using JSGME? i.e Copy & paste.

Thanks for the swift answer. No I have not tried enabling a mod outside JSGME. Are you suggesting I try this with the Emblem, or Twisty mod (sorry for being a bit stupid here but I want to make sure)? Whichever, please let me know what I should do.

How about we see if the Turm emblem is working at all.
Start a new career with a name of 'tester' (2nd flotilla, 1943, VIIb model sub)
Make one patrol (just let it load and then immediately exit patrol and dock), then exit game, then edit your \My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg and change the following:
[PLAYER] <----find this header
..
..
..
Experience=5000.000000 <--- change this to the value shown
save. Reload SH3 and select career and pick our tester. Choose load save and select the last one in the list. Now pick an emblem for the Turm and then start another mission. See if the emblem is there or not.

Incidentally, prior to changing my U-Boat from VIIb to VIIc the emblem was working fine.

Racerboy, I reopened 'tester' and selected the emblem on the VIIb. I then started another patrol and the emblem was there BUT although the VIIb was in the fab Cobalt skin, there was an additional separate turm with gun mount behind the main turm (I'm sure this is not a VIIb). Any ideas?

Very interesting...:hmm: ...can you take a screenshot (ctrl + F11) and send it to me?
I'm assuming you figured out how to open the file? You can open .cfg files with notepad.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to open and make the change to the cfg file (do I need to change this back ?) and then reloaded the patrol as 'tester'. I then had exactly the same as my previous mail - Cobalt skin with smaller circular additional turm behind main turm and also the viking ship emblem on the side of the main turm (no vertical wooden slats). Don't know how to attach screen shots to my entries on this site (I have tried believe me).

I tried my own advice and with the files I sent you and everything works good. You have a mod or something that has corrupted your Turm files then.
Have you tried rolling back all your mods, enabling the one I sent you and seeing what happens?

I have now deleted all of my mods from the my SHIII Mods folder with a view to reinstalling from my unzip folder one by one. Still no emblem.

You have to have a minimum level of renown to let you put an emblem on your boat. This varies depending on the supermod you are using. IIRC it's 500 in GWX but 1500 in stock. You have to have that renown in the bank when you want to add the emblem.

Tarjak, thanks for the input but I have checked my renown and there is sufficient there for the emblem. When I click on the 'specials' button, nothing happens over on the left - normally it will allow you to select an emblem (and if there is insufficient renown, a message will come up to tell you so?).
Racerboy, thanks for persevering with me on this. I completely removed all of my mods and deleted them out of the SHIII Mods folder. Restarted my game - no emblem. I have copied all of my mods back from my unzip mods folder (on my desktop) and on the basic VIIc skin - no emblem. I have reloaded all the mods including your ex smoke and the cobalt skin - no emblem. I went into the main.cfg folder from My Documents and found 'emblems' under the 'player' header. There, mine reads 'emblems=0' - is that correct or should there be a numeric value there? Please advise on this and what else I can do. Thanks in advance.:cry:
If you renown is insufficient you don't see any emblems at all. You don't get to choose one and then get told you don't have enough like other upgrades.

Tarjak, I had enough renown but I wasn't clicking on the icon to the left (emblems) as well - DOHHH:rotfl:.
Racerboy, I had a try of the 'tester' career again but this time substituted the VIIc instead of the VIIb (the VIIb worked and had the emblem:up:). I wondered what would happen if tried a new career with the VIIc? IT WORKED :sunny: but the only downside is that I got rid of my earlier career :cry:. Ah well, no use crying over spilled milk.

Seems I have the same problem, from reading this thread - is the only way to get my Emblem back to start a new career ?

Gunz..I have cobalts 41 running and do not have problem with the emblem. The only difference i can see by reading this thead is that i loaded the 41 from within SH3 commander and not JSGME..Cobalt tells you how to do this in his readme file.
