This is a perfectly legitamate rant about the British Police Force, and this thread is not the place for responses that contain things like "lol" or "I know, wtf". Thanks

My father and I, when on a hour and a half car journey from the West Midlands to Ystalyfera, Wales (Near Swansea) discussed the state of the British Police force. These are some of the points that came up:

When was the last time you saw a traffic cop on a motorway? Are the police really that dependent on speed cameras and 'deterrents' that they dont even bother patrolling anymore?
How many times have you seen a driver (be it truck, car, moped) break the law as you drove behind them?
How come a man on his mobile phone got only 6 points on his license, a £250 fine and a slap on the wrist for hitting a 12 year old girl on a pavement whilst on his mobile phone?
There was an occasion when we were almost hit head on by an impatient motorist who tried to overtake another car and only in the last few seconds pulled back into their own lane. If we had hit that car, I wouldnt have been typing this, and thats no exaggeration. She* was then observed to be insulting the motorist in front of her.Lets be honest now. People are being arrested and taken to court for putting their feet on the seat on a train, when Irish haulage drivers are left to get away with transporting a dock container on an ordinary flatbed**. What the hell is wrong here?!

*This is in no way a generalisation. She was a woman
** You're supposed to have locking mechanisms on the corners and middle of a dock container to stop it from sliding off the flatbed. This trucker had neither.

Apathy mate, that's what it is.

- pigs on the motorway - everytime I've broken down and used one of those emergency phones and spoken to an operator, a car has arrived withing a matter of a couple of minues. Certainly my trip up the M1 and the A50 last weekend saw about a dozen rozzers driving along.

- other drivers and the law - so many times I've lost count.

- car phone guy - deserves it like everybody else; trouble is he'll probably have to kill some poor sod first before anything serious happens. A m8 of mine got 4 points and a 90 quid fine for using his mobile phone in a stationary traffic jam to tell work he'd be late. Nice... meet those targets, bust that quango goal.

- all of the above - it's cynically perceived that the easiest people to convict/fine etc are the ones the police go for, but maybe that is because they're the easiest?

ol wft m8

That's nothing to do with policing, the police might have carried out the arrest, but sentencing is a matter for the Judge, Magistrate and the Crown Prosecution Service and any pertinent legislation that is either lacking or lax.

In ten years you will look back and say what a crap country I lived in then, but it was better back then. ;)

The following is a general statement to the folks of the UK -
The power is with the people you want change wake up. :yep:

And on that note I am not reading or replying to this thread anymore. :p

Kinda with Chock on this one.

British Police are probably doing the best they can with the resources they've got and the targets they are forced to meet. It's the fault of the courts that crimanals get off with such light sentances sometimes.

But then are the courts hands not partly tied by the overcrowding in prisons?
Who's fault is that?

Who's fault is that?

Yours. Nah, only joking. The prisons are too full of foreign prisoners. And thats not just being funny. Britain doesnt have the balls to deport foreign prisoners. Thats how bad this country is.

Foreign prisoners? Yes part the problem but why not spend a few quid and build a few more prisons?

Yes, and I would be happy to pay a bit more tax so long as thats what they spent it on.

My dad says that, but he's not willing to spend the money when there's no guarantee that it'll be spent that way

So long as it's not the perm.

Have to agree with you Kapitan, there aren't nearly enough police on the roads these days.

More prisons yes
Deport the foreign prisoners yes

Dont spend too much time on the motorways thank god but when I do I rarely see a police car
Except at service stations
LMAO

Wanna see a copper
Watch TV
They are all driving around with camera crews in the back

I see drivers using mobile phones every day
But without seeing a police car they are free to get away with it

Driving standards as a rule have gone down the pan
Only tonight had a car heading towards me turn right across me forcing me to brake hard
I used to love driving now its a necessary evil

I think that Britain needs this guy:

or this guy:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d8/LawOrderLennie.jpg/200px-LawOrderLennie.jpg

either way, the crime problems in the UK, or any other country they patrol, are over!:know:

But seriously speaking, law enforcement in the UK does seem to be suffering from an over reliance on technology when nothing does the job like a cop on the beat with a good head on his shoulders.

Precisely :yep:

The answer to the problem is electing a government that is genuinely prepared to put in some serious investment :hmm:

So many subjects here, dunno where to start
Irish Haulage guy ? Well, the driver should be aware that he'll get the book thrown at him for this
Prisons ? There is an outcry for more of them but 'not in my backyard' syndrome kicks in here. No matter where you want to build them, somebody will complain when it reaches the planning permission stage. As for using redundant oil rigs, some Prisoners will suffer sea-sickness or similar and complain about there human rights being exploited. [can't have em' suffering can we ?]
Police and sentencing ? It is not down to the Police Force what sentence the bad guy receives; why people think that and blame them is beyond me ?!
Motorists ? I have recently moved back to the rat-race and discovered everybody is in such a tearing hurry, so much so that I see a near miss / potential accident on a daily basis here. Yes, daily.
And in conclusion ..
Hakahura and his location description ? Believe me, I know the feeling

When was the last time you saw a traffic cop on a motorway? Are the police really that dependent on speed cameras and 'deterrents' that they dont even bother patrolling anymore? We now have enforcement officers patrolling motorways, they have no power of arrest but they can call in persuit officers if need be.

How many times have you seen a driver (be it truck, car, moped) break the law as you drove behind them? All the time and i admit to have done that was well, talking on the radio while driving is also against the law your not allowed to use the hand held mike while driving thats why we have push buttons on our gear changer so it acts like a hands free kit.

How come a man on his mobile phone got only 6 points on his license, a £250 fine and a slap on the wrist for hitting a 12 year old girl on a pavement whilst on his mobile phone?Typical cant see past thier nose leniancy i dont answer my phone period in a car unless i am stopped or some one else is with me then il talk through the other person.

There was an occasion when we were almost hit head on by an impatient motorist who tried to overtake another car and only in the last few seconds pulled back into their own lane. If we had hit that car, I wouldnt have been typing this, and thats no exaggeration. She* was then observed to be insulting the motorist in front of her.If you got her registration no harm in reporting her to the police for road rage and dangerous driving.

Lets be honest now. People are being arrested and taken to court for putting their feet on the seat on a train, when Irish haulage drivers are left to get away with transporting a dock container on an ordinary flatbed**. What the hell is wrong here?!

There is a diffrence between trailers, flatbeds are completely flat flooring have streghtend bars under the flooring and a wooden floor, container trailers are like skellingtons hence why they are called Skellys they have the locking mechanisms on 8 points of the trailers and just look like a container shell.

*This is in no way a generalisation. She was a woman
** You're supposed to have locking mechanisms on the corners and middle of a dock container to stop it from sliding off the flatbed. This trucker had neither.

If he didnt have any swivvle locks on his container and he has managed to hit the open road with it still on the back of the trailer id be quite shocked, bear in mind its incredibly difficault to see the acctual locks from the road, you have to be near on close up to see them, and whats more is when they come off the ships all the skellys (trailers) have them fitted pre ready.

I'm going on what my dad said at the time, he works in haulage. We couldnt see any external locking mechanisms on it, but there may have been some under the container, needless to say we didnt want to be behind him long :P

I had a situation where I was going up a hill on a dual carriagewaywith the wife and kids in the car, there was this motorcyclist which when I looked in my mirros was way back. Anyway I pull out and am passing this 1970's cortina which was doing 50 and I was doing near to 70 when this guy on the bike is right up my arse.

Anyway he's flashing his light and everything so I pull in front of the other car having completed my move. This idiot then drives right alongside me giving me the fingers then nips infront of me brake testing me. So here I am hitting the brakes, as he repeatedly brake tests me with a 4 year old, 6 month old and my wife in the car and another car behind me.

I got his number and went to the police. they knew who he was, went and had a word and he said he was sorry.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF. If there had been no kids in the car I might not have hit the brakes. Then he'd be sorry. But so would I as I would be in jail.

Going slightly OT, what would the penalty be if I am doing 70 on the dual, some a-hole is right up my bum, flashing his lights and all and I just happened to hit the brakes and he goes into the back and spins me off the road?
