I've decided to try making a skin for the IXD2, and read Danlisa's great tutorial. However, when I try to unpack the IXD2 .dat file in the data\submarines folder, SH3 Unpacker does not list any .tga files. The only Type IX .dat file that shows .tga files w/ unpacker is in the Type 9b4 folder. Similarly w/ the Type II's - the only .dat file that shows any .tga's is the IIB folder.

I've made a copy of the original Type IXD2 .dat file, run unpacker, select that .dat file, but get no files listed in the window.

Is there a step I'm missing? Appreciate any help... or a smack if I've missed something obvious.

Wildchild - thanks for the help. I'll do a search for them when I get home. For the files that are not specifically "9D2" do they get applied for all of the Type IX boats despite saying 9b?

NSSUboat9D2.tga is the main one for the D2 hull the D2 use the same con towers as the IXB & IXC. And the IXB & IXC use the same hullshttp://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/00020069.gif (http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10)

Hehe, LOL.

Shall I save you some time?:D

Here are all the textures, packed in JSGME ready format, packed into IXB/IXC/IXD2 and ready for skinning. FYI, all the conning textures, guns & sensor TGA's are included. Oh, and BTW they're all @ 2048 x 2048.

EDIT - I must update the tutorial at some point. I suggest using Pack3D to export all the tga files. BTW, to ensure MOD compatibility leave your skins as textures only, don't repack the DAT files.

Thank you both !!! Now it's time to make something that hopefully doesn't look like the Beatles' Yellow Submarine

Okay, I'm still stumped on these .dat files. I've tried using "silent3 editor" as well, and can only find two of tga files in each sub's .dat file. I'm trying for the Type VII as well, but can't find the deck and hull .tga files embedded in the .dat file. Where are the rest of these hidden? I've done a search by file name as well to see if they were already in another subfolder, but the only ones I can find are from other modded skins I've downloaded.

I still have the original .tga's for the Type IX that Danlisa posted, but as I try the Type VII (or if I screw one of the original files up by mistake) where can I find them embedded?

:rotfl:You should have asked for the VII versions aswell.

Same deal as before.

You'll have to struggle on with the Type 2 & 21 as these will only skin with packed DAT files.

Hi dmlavan,

you also have to look into the TurmXX_X_hd.dat files in ...\data\Objects folder.

Greeting,
