What is the forum's view on using mods where the original artist isn't reachable anymore or isn't responding after some time? Do we just let them RIP? Or is it ok it incorporate them into new mods as long as all credits for the mod being used is given? I'm in a dilemma on this one as I would like to incorporate a mod made by a forum member who seems to be unreachable now. :-?

In my opinion as long as you reference and you give due credit you can use a mod made by some one else
Agreed, so long as you credit the original creator, you should be fine matey. :yep:
On a Personal note, Its only when wannabes pass others work off as their own that make my blood boil, No one likes a liar and thief :nope:

As you'll no doubt be aware, when even considering your short time here, THIS CAN BE A MINEFIELD :yep:
One tip I would offer would be to ensure that you can demonstrate you have taken every reasonable step to contact the originator of said mod.
Whether you save or archive your PM's and/or emails is up to you.....but keep a reference should the unthinkable occur :arrgh!:

Exactly my thoughts,if you have to post your attempts to reach them.be as transparent as possible,if you've done everything possible then giving them credit and showing that they were the insperation for said mod is enough in my book:up:

This was an area that I had to decide on with regards to Konrad Krum U-Boat skin, I wanted to use it as a skinning template. I tried every avenue available to me in trying to establish contact with him, which the end result was no joy . When I placed the skin/s on my Drive Through Thread; I ensured that Konrad Krum was mentioned on the post page of the skin as well a in the email readme. I also informed all members of this forum that I was not successful in contacting Konrad Krum via the email, PM and ICQ method. With all that in mind; I was confident that I could produces skins off Konrad Krum's original skin.
If you do the same as mentioned above; I would be very disappointed if any member criticized you.
No one has judged me wrongly to date and that should be proof enough that we all see/understand when someone is true and honest and a low life thief :nope:

Well said Venatore
This all was the object of a long and deep discussion long ago, and as a result the recommended modding etiquette was compiled and made sticky at the top of this forum. Reallydedpoet gave the link some posts ago and it is recommended reading
Please no more discussions about this all, we did that to be able to bury definitively the worm's can in all this stuff.
Thanks
