Okay for the first time ever I just added Captain Cox's Bow and stern wave foam effect and conning tower bubbles.
The second I started the game and had the sub moving my FPS went crazy and the ocean started to shake like crazy.
So I shut off the game disabled the mod and restarted the game and everything was back to normal.
Again I shut the game off reinstalled the mod and started my game again and got the same shaking effect with crazy FPS changes.
Again shut the game off disabled the mod and restarted the game and nice steady FPS and no more shaking effect!
Anyone have any clues what might cause this?

Leovampire, I have used Improved Bow Wave Kit, Bow-Conning Foam Kit, and Less water Limber Holes MD in my own little roll-your-own mod I call, "Water FX", since I started modding SH4. I tried disabling them and started a new campaign and could find no detrimental effects, so I put them back in. This beast seems to be very platform-specific as regards visuals and performance. But it's running fine for me; I hope this helps. Zeke

I suspect that the game engine is very sensible about textures.
i tried the last enviroment mod with bigger foam textures (seadler) and i had an important FPS drop .

but someone sugested I try the other part's of it for the bow and stern effect's that captain Cox did. But as soon as I enabled them and started up the game everything went nuts.
Was just trying to find out why that would happen as it never did in the past.

Leo do you have a link to the bow/stern wave foam, and conning tower bubble mods? I can't find anything with those names in the 1.3 mods sticky. Only thing I'm running right now is the Less Water Limber Holes.
Not that I'll be able to answer your question, just wanted to try out those 2 mods and see if strange things happen on my system!

Thanks Leo I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if my FPS goes all screwy or if I get "oceanquakes" :o
Just a thought, maybe it's a vid card or driver issue you're seeing? SH4 seems pretty picky about drivers, a few months ago I had a weird problem where suddenly every screenshot I took in SH4 came out totally crapped - I'd get only the top 1/2, or the bottom 1/2, or various bits of game menus or textboxes (i.e. message log) were overlaid on the shot. Every other game I tried though, screenshots were perfect. Also, my FPS in SH4 totally tanked, game was almost unplayable :( But FPS was fine in other games
I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling my Nvidia drivers (exact same version on reinstall) and things were 100% back to normal. I guess some tiny little thing in the driver got crapped and SH4 couldn't deal with it but my other games could...

this month for my B day I am not too worried about them yet but aside from that this was the very first time anything seriously abnormal happend adding a mod other than a game crash because the JSGME mod wasn't set up right and I didn't notice it or did an install when I wasn't in port but should have been.
So it totaly caught me off guard and thought I would pose the question and see if I could get an answer.

Today I tryed out the mod's again and the problem wasn't there. So i guess my game just got pi**ed off with all the add on mod's and removing others and adding on others and said enough is enough.
After loading the game over and over again with new this and new that and change this and change that the game just went nuts for a while.
Now all is working and back to normal so I guess there was nothing wrong with the mod just my own personal game.
But one thing Redwine and I did figure out is that sometimes files that are downloaded from a Modder's work carry over their setting's from the menu Graffic's settings. The only way we found to get back to what you actualy want to use for your own game is to uncheck all of the visual enhancments and hit the apply button then go back and recheck off what you actualy want for your own game and apply them again.
We have proven this 2 times with his downloading things from me that are being tested by him. The checked off boxes do not show what was carried over but the game see's the changes non the less.
Files like the scene.dat / camera.dat and so forth can cause this problem from mod's.
I think what is happening is there is almost like an ingame save effect that get's carried over into those types of files and the game makes changes to them in some way or another that get's imprinted to the files so when you download them you get the same effect's.
