 "The Thread" is BACK!!! Welcome to the OH-ficial, 100% Niki McBee NFL thread. Last year's thread was a smashing success, so this is part II. If you are new to the thread:cool: , here's the rules: Only professional (and some amature) trash talking is allowed. No personal insults; IE: Bort is [insert insult here], 'cause he likes da Bears. One exception; you can make fun of Neal's smashing haircut:D IF he makes "the BET" again.:rotfl: :dead: wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Other than that, you can sling all the mud you want.
NOTE: THIS NOT A SOCCER THREAD!!!!! So, any other forms of "football" will be made fun of here! So, if you want to talk soccer (football:shifty: ), there are plenty of other high quality, soap opera threads on the internet.
NOTE #2: CFL football-talk is allowed, but since you are using second-hand NFL players, you run the risk of being made fun of here. Nevertheless, you can hang out here, even if you use the metric system.
NOTE #3: I'm sick of hearing about Vick! I don't want to sort through 14 pages of Vick rants to get to the good stuff. So, unless you are talking about how Micheal Vick was framed by Phil Knight and Nike Corp to get that loser Joey a starting postion, I don't want to hear it!
Anyway, here goes nutin'....

I'm hoping to see the 49ers continue their long hard road to becoming a winning team again. I can't make any predictions yet, but I'm at the very least hoping they do well enough to make it to the playoffs.

3. Da Bears, well... Can Rex survive another season of Takeda insults?
The answer is no.
Anyway, this thread will receive official protection. Any off topic post will be subject to deletion. I think it's great that you only like Austrialian rules rugby, and that you think that American football is for little girls. Go start your own thread to that effect. Let us Americans have our girly game.
EDIT: Stickied. If the World Cup fans get their own [albeit temporary] forum, then this is at least deserving of a sticky until after the Superbowl.

Yes. Now, if you wouldn't mind calling off Boris and Vlad. They are scaring me.
Prediction from me: Chicago and New England will implode this year. Both disasters will be triggered by poor offense.
On the flip side: Cleveland and Minnesota will make the playoffs. Defensive turn-arounds will trigger the change.

Hoooo! Stifle that blasphemy, mister ;)
I did watch the Panthers vs. Patriots, and although we got beat, I did see some very good things from our draftee Beason. Could be a good defensive player to tailor in the Peppers/Rucker mould maybe?
Carolina's pass game could also use some work. Delhomme needs to be careful of three things:
1) Dont rely too heavily on Steve Smith - other teams figured this out last year and double teamed him all the time. We have other talented recievers in Colbert and Carter.
2) Dont get frustrated when a pass is dropped. I've seen his reactions and they tell me he doesnt like it. Deal with it Jakey boy, its part of the game.
3) Dont be afraid to use play action. I didnt see it once in our pre-season game, and after 2 run plays it might be worth a try for those crucial few yards for the first.
And as to whether Dan Morgan can stay injury free for this season, I just dont know. However, his presence does seem to do something to the Panthers' defense - it'd be useful to have him around.

Where are the Cleveland Browns in the over all scheme of things ... ?
Didn't Cleveland beat the Chicago Bears in pre-season? Aren't they
long over due for a title run?
I like Cleveland winning something this year.
I think the Bears will have a harder time this season ... that offense is on hold till someone gets hurt ... that's the way I see it.
Chargers with a new coach, but one that use to call all of the plays a couple of years ago ... He's better than Marty ball that's for sure :yep:
LT and Rivers with a great defense will take the Chargers all the way to the Super Bowl in Arizona this year
so the San Diego fans won't have very far to go.

I like Cleveland winning something this year.
To be honest, they're long overdue. They have some meeean tools this year, its just moulding them together into a machine that works on all cylinders. To me, Cleveland's biggest downfall has been their inability to work together. I know that sounds a bit harsh, but knowing who your go-to receivers are with so many newcomers HAS to throw you off a bit.
If you look at the Panthers, we didnt change a whole lot offensively. We signed David Carr as Delhommes backup, who may actually produce good things with Steve Smith and Keary Colbert, but we also lost Kris Mangum (one of the best TE's in the game) and Keyshawn Johnson, tough guys to replace. It'll be interesting to see how Carolina gets over this, especially when Jake seems to rely on an understanding of who he's throwing to.

I'm surprised Bort and Neal haven't dropped in yet.:) Now that da ray-duhs have Culpepper.....and the Bears...Grossman, well, we love Rex. He has a sweet spirit and means well;) .
I think it can only go up for the Raiders. This time last year, every football prognosticator, were predicting Oakland was going to field the worst team in Raiders' history! I haven't heard any of that this year.:/\\k:
Camaero

I just don't have any faith in Culpepper... Sorry Raiders fans.
I think the Bears might actually do it this year. I am quietly and modestly confident...
GO BEARS!!!
Did I say that out loud...
Anyway, I'll take Takeda's predictions of doom as a good sign. When he says the Bears will take it all, I'll panic. I think this year we'll se a much more mature and efficient Rex Grossman with much fewer rough edges, although he does need to learn to take a snap without dropping the *&^#ing ball! Cedric Benson will continue to get better at running back, and Devin Hester at wideout should have most teams in a tizzy. Its gonna be an exciting year!:arrgh!:

A couple of years ago was only a double header on sky sports every sunday plus monday night football on channel 5

At least you got to watch something ... There I was all ready for an exciting sunday of football ... first I watch New England defeat the Jets, but the Jets didn't look that good on defense that's for sure. Then I watched the Texans defeat K.C and I really enjoyed the Denver/Buffalo game ... what a kick with only one second to spare ... I've never seen so many happy men in a first game of the season.
Then my beloved Chargers come on at 1:15 pm pst ... I have NFL Football Sunday ticket on Direct TV ... Camaero and it's only $44 a month for five months.
Watching LT run a little slow ... watching Rivers throw the ball to the wrong team ... and wham the lights go out. Somebody must have thrown a cigarette out the window just a mile and a half from here and wham it starts a fire, the electricity gets turned off due to the fire, bomber planes, big ass helicopters show up, sirens, fire trucks, forest service trucks everybody fighting the fire and I can't
get anythingon radio or T.V.
All my batteries were down or I could have switched to DC.
Went to bed with no power, missed the Chargers/Bears game missed the Sunday night Cowboys game, boy that looked like a good one Wade Phillips is the difference and then I wake up this morning at 7am with my the electricity back on.
Looked like a great opening week-end though ... got to go get my batteries charged up for next sunday nights Chargers/New England game.

Anyone else impressed by the 49ers?
geetrue
09-11-07, 04:13 PM
I love the San Francisco 49er's ... The coach was voted to be the best dressed coach in the NFL ...
but Arizona was so bad it made the 49er's look good. I hope they win more games I really do, but to struggle with Arizona and win due to the quaterback deciding to run after finding no on to pass to, making a first down in the process, is no way to discern the rest of their season.
What about the offical's bad call of pass interference against Balitmore when in fact it was defensive pushing and shoving the reciever out of the end zone is all I could see. Then the same offical calls defensive pass interference on the very next play giving Balitmore a new lease on life with an automatic first down.
I'm not saying the Bengals didn't deserve to win, but it's a shame when the a bad call is the reason.

I'm here. Not worried about the Eagles, as they do tend to start slowly. I still think that they're a 12-4 team.
Now, to the business at hand: The collapse of the Chicago Bears. The turn-around and maturity do not seem to have materialized. Furthermore, the only people seemingly distressed about Hester's slot at WR seems to be the Chicago players themselves.
And now.....
In the name of proper documentation, I will be posting the stats of the vaunted Rex Grossman for each week. This way, we can accurately chart the progress of who future generations will know as History's Greatest Quarterback. Without further ado, for week 1:
Rex Grossman:
12/23, 145 YDS, 0 TD, 1 INT
Stunning. Just stunning. A performance to tell your children about.

Ho ho! Man, the Pats got zapped a good one for cheating!
New England coach Bill Belichick was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 Thursday and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for spying on an opponent’s defensive signals.
The commissioner also ordered the team to give up next year’s first-round draft choice if it reaches the playoffs and second- and third-round picks if it doesn’t.

They got off easy imo.
For the severity of the infraction I think the penalty was pretty harsh. It's not like coaches don't change their signals, and it's not like it gave them some huge advantage. To lose a first round pick is pretty substantial (because we all know the pats are going to make the playoffs) and $500,000 is no drop in the bucket, even for a well paid coach. I mean, if anything I think the comissioner was so harsh because of the principle of the violation, rather than the violation itself. I mean, technically what they were doing was cheating, regardless of how little advantage they actually gained. I think that's why he made the punishment as harsh as he did. In the grand scheme of things though, stealing defensive signals is pretty tame in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying but I think you need to consider how much this has tarnished those three superbowl rings. IMO in addition to the sanctions they recieved they should have had sundays win taken away or Belichick should have been suspended for a few games.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KGB (transliteration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transliteration) of "КГБ") is the Russian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language) abbreviation for Committee for State Security (Russian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language): Комите́т Госуда́рственной Безопа́сности (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/Ru-KGB.ogg) Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti), which was the umbrella organization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella_organization) serving as the Soviet Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union)'s premier security agency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_agency), secret police (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_police), and intelligence agency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_agency), from 1954 to 1991.

I still support and love the San Diego Chargers ... were going to get better.
"It was a trap for us, really," Tomlinson said. "They were saying, 'Everybody thinks we're cheaters. Let's go show we're not cheaters against one of the best teams in the league.'
"I'm not surprised at all that they played well."
The other shoe has not dropped on what New England was doing with one camera trained on the defensive signals and another one for the audio signals, knowing full well they would face the New York Jets again this season.
Nothing can take away from how good Tom Brady and Randy Moss performed. Junior Seau was a San Diego Chargers player for a long time stopping us up the middle. Yeah their good ... good enough to meet again in the play offs.

I'm almost certain that niether Brian Griese or Kyle Orton are the answer to the Bear's problems, but they can offer the stability that Grossman can't. Bench Him
I went to the Bears game tonight-in person. I haven't been this uncomfortable or upset since da bears lost the Super Bowl. As many of you know, I have mostly defended Rex Grossman, and called for patience and optimism to the mob of torch and pitchfork bearing football observers, but enough is enough. I don't think that he is the only weak link on the Bears, I could go on and on about all sorts of other boneheaded players, coaches, and the management, oh the management! But the time has come for Rex to take a well deserved seat and let someone else captain the ship. I still belive that Rex incredible talent, and that he can make some plays that I'm absolutely certain no other QB in the league can make, but he is inconsistent and apparently either unable or unwilling to learn from his mistakes. I'm almost certain that niether Brian Griese or Kyle Orton are the answer to the Bear's problems, but they can offer the stability that Grossman can't. Now excuse me while I weep quietly in the corner.
wish granted:roll:

In the videos, they talk about it. He's being benched for Griese.

Packer Dining Out- Remember to leave a generous tip for good service. After all, their mobile home costs just as much as yours. Packer Entertaining in Your Home A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table . . . no matter how good his manners are. If your dog falls in love with a guest's leg, have the decency to leave them alone for a few minutes. Packer Dating (Outside the Family) Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date. Be aggressive. Let her know you are interested: "I've been wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the men's bathroom wall two years a go." If a girl's name does not appear regularly on a bathroom wall, water tower, or an overpass, odds are good that the date will end in frustration. Packer Theater Etiquette Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up immediately after the movie has ended. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they can't hear you. :rotfl:

That game will be the litmus test so to speak for the Pats, I think it will be closer than people think, and could go either way, Pats or Colts. There is a reason why only one team has gone 16-0, not an easy thing to accomplish. Plus they both want only one thing, the Superbowl.
Besides, I am still hoping the Pack will be in the thick of things in the end, especially now with a bit of a running game developing.

Il take a loss to the Colts at the weekend if it means the Pats make it all the way to Arizona. Whatever the result im sure it will be a great game. Two teams on fire going head to head cant wait. Seems Big Bill has been proven right by going out and spending big in the summer getting Brady the weapons he was missing last year.
