What started off as a simple project has turned into a Community effert of Modder's and testers with differn't tallents and learning more about the inner workings of the game to make the over all environment for the game much better so people willl enjoy staying on the bridge much more and less inclined to fast forward through their patrols.

I wanted to do something that would work well with LBO and compliment that work and have just the same ammount of impact that LBO did on the community at large. Thanks to some great guy's helping me this dream is becoming a reality.

Here is 3 screen shots for now to show a small hint of what is going on in work and will post more in the near future.

This mod is going to change all reflection's in the game and how they work from the sun to the moon to all Sub's, Ship's and every single object in the game you can and will see. All search light's on ship's and for lighthouses are enhanced and also star shells the DD's use to search at night for you. new fire effect's and explosion effect's and now oil sliks for the game as well. Also ship sinking effect's and how it look's on the ocean is enhanced. All smoke effect's and so forth in the game now have a reflection and you will have lightning effect's as well. Basicly this is a full visual enhancment mod that will make you want to spend more time in the outside view's of the sub rather than speeding through the game. All shadow effect's, above and below water lighting effect's now match the possition of where the light is comming from and is 100 times more realistic. All sky textures and blending as well as a new Pacific Blue Ocean has been created.

Project workers now include: Kriller2 / l3th4l / JakeToox / LeoVampire
and a lot of serious testers that don't hold the punches back in what they feel looks
and act's right and what dosn't. And the comunity at large for choices on textures.

Looks very nice, is it only by editing the scene.dat you get that effect? or are you allso editing the textures? - I had some problems when I tried to get the ocean more shiny, it was like there was some pixel-faults on the ocean when I put to much reflection / white colour on the reflection maps...

I started to do reasearch into reflections like I did for the ocean and now working with in game control's to eliminate all the strainge reflection effect's we see in long distance shots and yet adjust the environment to show much more realistic reflections and shadow effect's according to where the light is actualy comming from. This will effect both above water lighting and below water lighting effect's and reflections.

I have no natural tallent's working with dds or tga files so I manipulate the game's environments using what is available for controls in all available files. I find where everything is for what I want to work with then get cracking on it.

As you can see in this new picture with working on the lighting effect's of the sun and moon now they will have more of an impact on everything in the game. Notice how the moon light at certain angles will now amplify smoke effect's. And also the reflections on the water like the fires on a ship now show up in the proper place according to how you look at the ship with the camera. And in the last picture the moon is behind the sub and still at a low angle so the lighting and shadows now only amplify where the actual light hits that area of the sub according to camera view. I did have to enhance the picture a bit so you could see the effect better.

Some of these effects will be amplified more this is just the begining work then the amplification of the effect's without getting the other strainge effect's reflection's can cause.

This is a sun rise just after the sun changes from an orange glow to it's more natural look with a halo starting

as you will see in these 2 pictures the sun's light rays will now angle through the water according to the sun's possitional angle in the sky instead of being a constant angle like it was before.

As you can see the shadow's of the wake on the starboard side of the ship is greatly enhanced because the sun is hitting the port side of the DD. so those port side wakes are hard to see.

now as you can see they are more of a downward angle reflection rather than spread out all the time.

As time passes in the game the ocean appears to change colors from a dark blue to a light blue then deep dark blue and it will reverse as the sun starts it's downward angle again. No texture changes just lighting changes create the effect.

glad you think so DeepIron and a hell of a compliment as well. Didn't intend it to be an inspirational mod but did want to make the SHIV environment much better for everyone once outside of the sub camera's are used.

I am testing out Kriller2's new horizon's for his up comming release and I have to say he did a really damm good job blending it all in to remove almost if not all the line coloring effect's you could make out before! Looks a lot smoother in blending so I know he worked really hard on it!

Working on it hard trying to make it perfect for everyone including me LOL!!

So I will keep everyone properly updated daily on the work and progress. Hope to have it ready by the weekend at the latest. This is much easier to do seeing there is a sun set and sunrise everyday to adjust and work with! Not like waiting for bad weather to happen in the game!!!

And BTW this is the picture that Bill Nichols gave me for insperation and example of what I might want to try and acheave.

Hi Leo. It's okay you are posting pictures taken with the mod I am working on, it's nice to hear I have found the right balance in the colours, it took me a long time, because the SH4 engine uses the sky's blue colour to make the oceans reflections... And I allso has to edit the colour of the sea and the sky to make sure there is no white line... Allso the ocean looks more dark blue when it's calm and more white-blue when it's windy.

I was born a Vampire never saw the sun except in movie's LOL!!!!

kriller2 is there actualy a texture file for the ocean like there is for the sea foam?

But thanks to all for the compliments. Still work in progress but example's like Bill's help's to recreate conditions. That is why I had bought the physics program working on the LBO mod it game me examples to see the effect's then it was a matter of making the game recreate them.

Yes there is a reflectionmap for the ocean which pretty much handles all the colour of the ocean and then there is a skymap. I think the colour is right now and will send you the file for testing.

But I was wondering if anyone knew why the sun dosn't rise directly due East in the game? Is it because the dimention of the Earth isn't set correctly for the game or is it something else?

The sun doesn't rise due east in RL. The earth is inclined at 23.5 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic so sunrise varies between -23.5 and +23.5 degrees. Combine that with the latitude to get the sunrise/sunset direction.

BTW thanks tater and Bill Nichols for the info. It wasn't important to my work was just curious why I was seeing that. It is funny how you miss certain things in the game until you are actualy working with them.

So far one of my testers, Redwine, Says the new reflections work with the sun and moon are now working just like in real life acording to the angle of the sun. One of the things you will notice with this is that you will not get the sun light rays and moon light rays passing under the water until the angle of the sun and moon gets higher in the sky because I matched them up now instead of being a constant effect they all match up in the proper angles of lighting.

The other tester is Kriller2 because we decieded to combine our tallents. He is doing all of the color work and textures and I am doing all the adjustments to make it look better and more realistic.

Here is a new daylight reflection effect for land as you can see it is a lot more pronounced now and can make out every detail of the lanscape in the water.

BTW the first picture in the second row is looking up at the conning tower from under the water wich is something you could not see before.

#2 Never sailed in the Pacific, but the waters in the Caribbean are very clear; I have seen conditions like in your bottom center pic above many times. Looking good!:up:

Shallow water in the Pac is like the Carribean in my personal observations, heck even in Augusta Bay, Sicily you can see the bottom about 70-80ft down.

Sharks too....lil ones tho:o

In my career I had the absolute same weather conditions for about 3 days. I find that a bit unrealistic. At least the wind direction should have been changed more often. So if you can decrease the time for changing weather, I would be happy.

Your not the only one, When I first got the game I was looking at all the water effects and found it kinda funny you should see the hulls of ships and your own sub underwater at shallow depth but the torpedos have no transparency effect at all... :-?

Farthest east i ever got was Karachi, Pakistan (kinda dirty, but nice enough natives and CHEAP Persian Rugs:up: ); but i did put my bare foot in the Pacific while on 90 days temporary duty in Panama City, Panama (left Dec 23rd, 1989, just as Operation Just Cause was getting going). ("Now, why are we doin' this again?" "Just 'cause...". :rotfl: Heard the Spec Ops boys blasting Heavy Metal trying to get Noriega to surrender. Saw a few F-117 strikes too (actually, just the explosions). Ahhh, memories. But, I digress...

Yeah, when I was last in Panama they (the Navy) would not let us off the pier, so we had a "Beer on the Pier Party" LOL:D

Think that was in 90, sheesh long time ago.

Seeing torps would be awesome and maybe it would cause the target to be able to react to the wake/torp:|\\

I wonder if enemy reactions to prematures could also be effected thru this.

Wind and weather change just a little more often than they do now in the game. Wind direction and speed will change a little more often than before both in and out of storms.

Second I am working to see if I can make the ocean a little more transparent in CALM sea's only beacause doing it in higher sea's dosn't look right. As it stands right now at 0 meter per second wind to 4 mps and waves you will be able to see the sensor balls on the underside of the sub and in very shallow water the vegitation. And you can see a torpedo if it is not deeper than the sub's lower hull sit's while on the surface of the oceean!

Is that good enough for an extra effect guys?

Ya Dennis the Avatar looks cool and thanks for setting me up with a private place to post downloads for testers looking forward to it.

As soon as I have sea's where the sea foam is present they will be adjusted for optimum look that I promise.

I have enlisted some extra testers to help with getting everything looking it's best. They are guys that have been around for a very long time some from before SHIV came out and their input will be very valuable in making this work and look as good as LBO and a nice compliment for it all. They are testing both my work and Kriller2's work combined and how it all looks for problem fix's and over all impact and things needed.

No names it is up to them if they want to be known or not, just wanted to update you on how much I and Kriller are trying to make this Mod the best possable eye candy for everyone on external view's.

A little tid bit that might be helpfull to testers and others downloading mod's especialy visual enhancment's. Redwine and I found out that sometimes the person doing the mod's settings in the Graffic's adjustments in the menu for the game can be carried over into the mod work and actualy change your own settings. It is sugested to uncheck all of the enhancment's and apply them then go back and check off what you want and apply them again to reset exactly what visual effect you want for your own game. Yes this sounds strange that it should happen but we have confirmed this 2 times now from downloads he has gotten from me for testing. The checked off box's don't change but the settings from one guy's game to anothers actualy do show up in the game.

Files like the scene.dat / camera.dat and so forth can cause this problem from mod's.

I think what is happening is there is almost like an ingame save effect that get's carried over into those types of files and the game makes changes to them in some way or another that get's imprinted to the files so when you download them you get the same effect's.

In the distance see those light reflection effect's? That is actualy the games way of showing how light is reflected off the tops of the waves vs camera angle and sun's angle. And as the sun get's lower in the sky they turn a darker color for the shadow effect the game try's to recreate.

Seeadler there is very little that can be done to make that all go away you can only just dull the effect a little. You were on the right track with your work though, it just needed some refinement. I don't know if you are still around but a comment I made about it in your thread when you first released the mod was off base and I am sorry about that!

There a total of 8 subs that this can be done to even the new Uboat Dusiums added to Trigger Maru so that will be applied to this mod when it is released. just thought of something crazy: i know it's a lot of manual labor, but whatever you guys did with the subs should be possible for *all* ships. looking through the dats inside the Sea folder i can see every object has the same reflection properties which could be modified. if you gave be specific instructions, i'll be more than happy to take care of that part, too :)

almost every object that has a dat file can get this enhancment yes. But it is one thing to do it to something you see all the time but if you do it to every object in the game once they are visable and in play then you will see a FPS drop you will never forget. Like putting the game in capture mode it will only do 1 frame per second.

I had already done this to the sun and moon a long time back to help create those sunset's and sunrise screen shot's I posted just didn't know about doing it to the subs till Jaketoox pointed it out.

But there are adjustments for the conning towers as well and that will go good with the sub enhancments and I will do that today and get it out to the testers. I also enhanced the scopes reflection effects for calm sea's to match the sub's and conning towers.

Keep in mind testers that the calmer the water the less distorted and clearer the reflections appear on the water. I have purposly set up the reflections so far that they slowly get more distorted as the wind and waves increase is which a lot more true to life effects. Same with the under water view's. For instance you may see a torpedo at a 10 ft or less setting in calm water but once the waves are at 5mps winds you might not see it at all only the wake behind it. I want to try and keep the effect's as real as possable.

I am using files from T.M. 1.6 and just adding on top of them the propeller fix for subs and all other enhancments are included in the file's guys so this can be applied on top of the other files using JSGME.

I figured it was the easiest way to accomidate all the needs out there. I am working on one thing to try and make a vs that will work with MAV87 sextant navigation mod once that is set I will send that file change to those using that mod.

For you guys who are waiting for this mod just for the fix on the sea foam effect's from Seeadler's work you can play with these 2 adjustments until you find a combination that works for yourself.

use the mini tweeker and the scene tweek file go to the tab Sea Foam

then work with these 2 sets of numbers only:

TextureScale
MaskTextureScale

I am not releasing numbers yet because I havn't even gotten fine tuned right in my own eyes.
Just thought I would give you a heads up on what you can do while waiting for me to finish
this mod!

Start with a TextureScale of 120 and then work from there if it helps.

But with changing the angles of reflections and narrowing the effect's you will now see realistic shadowing in the game on the sub's and ships. I hope you can see what I mean with these photo's of a moon rise. I have also extended the reflection's on the water so now they travel much further away from the object's than before in camera view's. I am also enhancing the star flairs the DD's use so that they will light up the clouds a little bit and have a brighter circle of light on the ocean surface around them. Inother words the flairs the DD's use at night to find you will be much more effective.

Man, I am soooo confused now as to how all this stuff relates to all this other stuff (LBO, reflections, lightning, smoke, sea foam, Kriller, Seeadler, etc. etc.) :o

But who cares - i.e., don't spend any time trying to explain it to me/us - just keep plugging away as long as you can stand it, and be sure to take some breaks now and then so you don't get burned out and leave us all hanging - these screen shots just keep looking better and better and we'll just have to keep cleaning the drool off our keyboards and waiting as patiently as possible for the eventual release(s). Really looking forward to seeing this stuff in my game and not just in these threads :yep:

Digital Trucker numbered each of the files for the sea foam that would be visable in his game to see each texture in the game how they work and where they show up when. Aparently just one texture is used for the entire surface of the ocean then the others play over the top of that 1 texture end result the quilt work effect.

So this is where the problem is comming into play in the distance shots with the camera view's and sea foam patch texture problems.

Time to see if there is a file in the game that can be adjusted to fix this that is a master control for the sea foam textures.

But thanks to Digital Truckers inovated idea in localizing it we now have a better place to start looking for a real fix

l3th4l is setting up every object and ship in the game with the enhanced reflection effect's like I was doing to the sub's that Jaketoox pointed out.

So when the mod is released it will be modular because needless to say there are a lot of DAT files in the game for all these objects to have their own enhanced reflection effect's.

Thanks l3th4l for doing all this extra work for me so I can get the other fine tunning done for the other wave states.

Seeing I have the extra help this mod is going to turn out a lot bigger and better than anticipated because not a single thing will be untouched by it from tree's to light houses ships sub's every thing.

If you use the free cam and go underwater then look at the sun through the water then turn the camera 180 deg about you will see the sunlight angle now totaly matches the sun's possition and the lighting rays match up as well.

Actually, it is not a NEW find by Jaketoox as it says in the title of the post. I did the reflection enhancement mod for SH3 long time ago and things work exactly the same way for SH4.

on this what has now become a serious joint effert on this project. I just sent out what I hope will be the last test work from all of us to the creators and testers.

If everyone says it is good to go both testers and moder's involved this MOD and work will be released for everyone in the comunity to download and enjoy in their own games.

Every single reflection for every object in the game has been enhanced and coloring for the environment has been enhanced as well with new halo effect's for the sun and moon and textures. New camera work and effect's. Every texture that has to do with the environment has been reworked.

All reflections are as true to life as the game can create and simulate with the least amount of FPS drop possable if there is any at all.

So far the only thing that has us baffled is the sea foam texture fix for the repeat texture for the entire ocean surface that cause's the patch work quilt effect at high camera view's.

This mod is at it's best in all outside camera mode's that are no higher than the Bridge level but everything has been adjusted as best as possable to create the best look at all angles of view and camera useage.

The mod will have to be modular because there are a lot of files involved seeing almost every object in the game is touched in one way or the other. And seeing so many are using Triger Maru right now we used the files from there as a base for most of it so propeller fix's and scope fix's and so forth are all in the files so nothing will be lost just enhanced.

So now we just wait for the final go ahead from everyone and it will be relased to all of you soon.

What I am so pleased about is how so many could come together to get all the work done on this and work together with a minimal amount of conflicts. It just shows how well the people in this comunity can work together when we want to create something that has a serious impact on the game environment.


A total of 15 creators and testers combined getting this done and in one way or another helping between inspirational pictures and examples and problem solving and leg work.

I forgot to take the lightning out of test mode it strikes too many times in a single spot and I forgot to match up some of the numbers between the materials file and particles files to match up effect's. Leovampire

That is why I wanted several testers they see more than we do a lot faster in the long run because they can play longer LOL!!!

I agree, I have lower end machine (with a high-end videocard) and it all works fine.

Also for the TM1.6 users. I enabled this mod with JGSME, just click yes when overwrite and it will work fine. (afcourse it's still in test.. but so far so good)

the interiour cams (except the hydrophone) are all freely movable. Their motion has been enhanced to include the gently swaying and rocking of the boat and the movement has been smoothed to appear more 'natural':

I have a lower end of the spectrum computer (AMD XP 3200+ Socket A, 1 Gig of memory and an EVGA 7800GS vid card). I'm still tweaking the video settings for the best balance, but I experienced very few instances of dropping frame rates. I didn't try to compare rates with and without the mod, but the slowdowns were in places where you would expect them (leaving docks in Pearl, middle of the Midway battle, etc.) and none were bad enough to screw up gameplay.

All I can say about the graphic enhancements is what game are we playing? This sure isn't the SH4 I remember!

Fine job Leo, Kriller2, l3th4l, sergbuto, JakeToox, Seeadler, WilhelmTell, Captain Cox, Kapitan_zur_see and anyone I might have left out (sorry). Stand up, take a bow, get this released and then go play with it! That's an order!

And wanted to point something out the Kriller2 did. Due to some pictures posted of the Pacific Ocean he has now made it more of a Pacific Blue color rather than the old color set up for the ocean so that is a major change.

A while back there was a guy on the mod's threads that worked on the helicopters that would try and find sub's this is when people were trying to find out about planes and ships spoting parascopes in the water was being discused before patch 1.3.

He noted that the dark siloet of the sub could be seen when they were near pariscope depth so that is part of the reason why I adjusted the water opacity near the surface in the first place seeing the ocean color was richer now and also so people could see a little deeper under the surface of the ocean in calmer sea's only!

I had posted a question asking if this was something people wanted and the consensous was yes.

I also tweeked the torpedo's files a bit so as long as they are set no deeper than the sub's bottom part of the hull would be when surfaced it would be possable to spot a torpedo and not just the wake. Again this is a clam sea's effect only!

I am posting this info because a question was asked why I did this and is it realistic in a PM to me and used one of my pics I posted as an example!

I need to do a screen shot but when using the kelp forest Captain Cox made in very shallow water where the kelp reaches the sub's buttom hull you can make it out through a top down view with the camera when staying still in calm sea's.

and also make the lightning work are the same files that adjust the smoke and fire effect's in the game. I took Wilhelmtell smoke on the water effect's and Captain Cox's funnel smoke effect's and added and adjusted their work to these files so people could also have some of their work. But I did make changes so that when certain fires like oil and fuel fires and smoke effct's and also when multiple ships are on fire the FPS drop isn't as bad as it would have been leving the mod's fully intact with all this new work for the game. I also adjusted every single smoke effect in the game so that it matches the slow smoke mod by scoochy I think is the one that did it. And now even the fire's, explosions and muzzel flashes from gun's react to the wind in one way or the other sightly with just a little more end smoke from the gun blast like it is from an oil cleaning.

But I did adjust smoke effect's so that it can been seen on the horizon as well as ship Funnel smoke before a ship is visable to the naked eye like you would see in the old time war movies. Here is an example picture. BTW that ship is on fire from an attack comming from the LUZON Airbase US forces.

Just some final bug work being done now and smothend out. I think Kriller2 is happy and done with his end and as far as I know the rest of my work is done thanks to something notced by WilhelmTell on the lightning files and I fixed today. And now just some double check and finetuning of the camera end of the mod.

Although I know or think Kriller2 is makeing and option mod for people who want bright light effect's of the ocean and people who might want it the normal way as we both like it.

Somtimes options are better for a mod for less complaints as FooFighter's pointed out to us. But it does slow down the release time a little bit.

I will keep it in mind!

Now when this is released it will be a modular mod with multiple downloads due to the over all size of it and the work. And this will make it easier for people to make the choices on what they want for easy install using JSGME!

There will be 3 seperate downloads for the objects enhanced reflection effects that is broken down to misc objects, ships and then one for the sub's that l3th4l did.

A download for all of Kriller2's texture file work and so forth

A download for the lightning, smoke, lighting effect's and reflections effect's I did.

And a download for the camera work that l3th4l did as well!

And an optional download for people who want another option away from the main work.

Like for example: l3th4l said he will make an arcade vs of the camera mod to see and use the Bino's and TBO all 360 deg and then a realistic one that work's like the real life abilities of viewing

LBO is included of course and the better rain mod and underwater visual mod and so forth like I did for the LBO vs2 release.

Without more controls for the sea foam textures to work with I am affraid you will have to decied if you
want to use Seeadler's textures or someother one's. At this time repairing the effect's is just not possable.
Either someone will have to make a new set of textures or if Seeadler gave permission maybe those can be
reworked to accomidate game control constraints better.

It is impossable to accomidate everyone out there but we will try to at least make a couple of options.

Skwasjer if it wasn't for you and S3D most of this would have been out of the question to achieve so you are in the credit's file I made.

And also a special thanks to Jaketoox for making a special tweeker file for the mini tweeker that works with every single thing in the scene.dat file and I mean everything!

Of course TimeTravler for the minitweeker!

The Dev's for this game and Ubisoft for publishing it!

And to badaboom that effect come's from my adjustments and Kriller2's new underwater work combined. He really worked with me to get the effect's I wanted to achieve above and beyond the call of duty!

I am going to let Kriller present all of this work and mod because he made a new intro screen to go with it that blew my mind away!

My work is done and now it is in Kriller2's hands guys!

"Tease" is right! When I was in high school we had a name for girls that teased like that, but at my advanced age & poor health I'm immune to such things.

But as far as sims go, I'm still vulnerable and these screenshots have got me "aching" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Hopefully "Reflections" will "put out" soon ;)

I know what you mean about not wanting to play until it's installed, I've been taking shore leave the last week while I wait for Reflections on the Water, and playing Bioshock instead. Great game, looks awesome but has more annoying quirks than SH4 1.0 did :(

Ya tease tease i tell ya, im holding off on my recon of a carrier group in east china sea for this puppy. Ya im in iraq been here since feb should be home by nov then come back in may woohoo! then another after that one, not complainingthough my job is one of those cool ones. In between ops its workouts shooting and at off times Sh4, grew up playing sims, think i was eight when i started. Great to take the mind off things when u can, hey and thanks for the support were over here for u guys and gals. Ya this mod is going to rock even with my wimpy toughbook and ati card, its ok big bonus next month means big alienware laptop for the next trips.

No more Alienware for me. :nope: While I was very charmed by them a couple of years back, after owning one, I wasn't too unhappy it got stolen. It gets uberhot, has short battery life and noisy as hell. Don't want to burst your bubble though, maybe they are better today... :smug:

or didn't have the calm sea's for it but all of the cloud's in the game now have an enhanced reflection effect you will see once the mod is released. Just something I kept quiet until Jaketoox posted the new tweeker file for the scene.dat work I did.

Also included in the work is the reduced rain drop size mod figured you guys would like that too.

Yep I am sneaky love seeing just what people and testers notice and do not notice in my work.

I never tell anyone every little detail of the work in test stage to see if they notice it or not. Usualy only after the mod is released do I point out things most don't pay attention to.

For example the second release of LBO I had to point out the fact that now unlike before even the slightest breaze and wave state makes the sub move on the waves even at a high increase time speed there is a slight change in the knt meter and shallow depth meter with every light breaze. An enhancment no one noticed until I pointed it out.

Like now none of the testers noticed yet that the cloud's reflection's have been enhanced for the work here in this mod.

Most people see the imperfection's before the enhancments.

I think that is why Duciums handed off Triger Maru more problems noticed with each release rather than the new enhancmet's.

Certainly can relate, if thiers one thing true in life its the same mental focus and bond that those who have served and fought for something greater than themselves. I just worked on some high end special FX's for my game and gave them to rcjonessnp175 /AKA/ Jonesy last night to go along with the Reflection's on the Water work.

There will be an add on for it in a few day's that I will send you! I am going to make the fire's and explosion's light up the sky a lot more and if there are cloud's you will even see the light effect's in them if they are low enough. Should make a hell of a light show when it's done. Plan on making it so the entire convoy or task force has the light show up on the hull's

BTW rcjonessnp175 pay attention to the sound effect's for this under water while in the Comand room or radar room and you will get a big surprise in sound effect's might even scare you a little bit at first.

Plus with that screaming crew sound effect Kriller2 made those multiple explosions on that ship had me laughing my you no what off.

Since screenshots from this mod have been entered in screenshot competitions prior to the release of the mod to the general community I believe the modders (who I applaude for their hard work and skill) should establish some type of 'Ethical Guidelines'.

Sorry im seemed abit Hot headed, just the enviroment getting to me again over here. I wish the best for your son and wish him a safe return home. I made a post on that screenshot page on the official forum basically telling them hey its not for competition blah blah blah. We have frequent power outages here at lest 3 a day, when that happens the internet is out too, the whole post i made was in the midst of one of those, so i guess it would of been explained alittle better, my bad ill just stay away from that forum, i guess thiers a bunch of wierd rules and such.

Jonesy, we have a bit in common then :up: My mother's side of the family is from Texas also, she was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Abilene, and later Fort Worth.

She told me the address of the house she grew up in during the '30's in Abilene a couple years ago, I totally amazed her by installing Google Earth on her PC and zooming in on it! It was more than clear enough for her to recognize it (a very distinctive-looking house with a round turret on the SE corner) and let me tell you what it made her day to see it's still there!

I was raised on Texas "tall tales", bet you were too, huh?

Back on topic, thanks for the pics, keep 'em coming! Can't wait to get my hands on this mod. And if I may say so it was pretty cool of Leo to give it to you early, he's an awesome dude :rock: I should be jealous but I'm not, considering the job you're doing for us civilians, you deserve it!

Making sure all the I's and T's are crossed and everything is being checked and rechecked just to make sure it starts off with a bang rather than a dud torpedo.

Now that I told everyone this need's to get out everyone is scrambling to get it ready LOL!!!

Kind of like a news paper deadline for final print if you know what I mean. Always helps to put people on their toe's and make them double check everything before it hits the streets.

Hey sorry ati guys, the card i have is this x1300 mobile, so i guess this generation has problems with the sun glare, like it did in sh3. But thats good news that the newer cards have no problems. So i guess i should say booo old card:damn:

The goal for this mod Like LBO is to enhance the game effect's and make them better not take away anything from it that makes it unique from all the others. So if your looking for effect's to be taken away from the game this mod will not be for you!

Even though this looks cool, that's not like you'd see something underwater. When you've got some rippled glasses on underwater, or look at it from the surface, when there are very gentle waves, then it'd look like that. I guess it's got nothing to do with the mod, but rather the options in SH4, but still it's not realistic.

I guess it's got nothing to do with the mod, but rather the options in SH4, but still it's not realistic. Yes it is definitely part of the mod, and yes it isn't realistic, however, once released it shouldn't be too hard to change. ;)
I'm just not sure wether it's just a lone textures or propertie change or if it's tied in with some other alterations.

:D It may not be a true to life representation of what things look like down thier, i think we all can agree that it looks alot better than stock and i think it really inhances things. U have to remember light and water do alot of weird things with each other, and to truly code that into a game i would think be mind boggling. Good reference would be alot of the dive websites of actual underwater pictures around the world to see the variances.

Most of the places we dive into isnt exactly beautifull crystal clear stuff either.

In the end im still positive u all will be quite happy and impressed with Leo and the boys work:rock:

All of you guys involved, great job ! This looks sooo awesome !

But I have one request: The clouds are traveling in the opposite direction of what the smoke is traveling. Maybe that can also be fixed with that mod. Whoever of you guys rewrote the waterfoamPS.fx (great job:up:), could you please have a look into the cloud shaders to find a solution for that ? Or can't the problem be found within the shaders ? Maybe it has something to do with the scene.dat ?:hmm:

As for the cloud's not sure yet if that can be adjusted to work with the wind or not but if it can be adjusted maybe it will work right. Just need to be carfull as we don't want that morphing cloud look again the game had in it's early day's of release.

I spent all of last night enhancing fire, smoke, and explosion effect's for reflections and to show up in the clouds a bit especialy at night. Plus was working on getting the ship sinking effect's to look better with some more ocean effect's to match it.

waiting for something from Kriller2 to test as well. And I know l3th4l is working hard to get the oil slik effect working right.

No really that will not happen but there has been times near land I was waiting for that to happen to the crew LOL!!! My imagination just run's wild sometimes the kid in me I guess.

Anyways one of the enhancments is the game always used the same reflection and lighting effect's under water no matter what the wave state and storm conditions were. So I now adjusted them to show the change below water and lessen as the sea's get ruff up topside. Just trying to make it all seem as real as possable in game.

this is a pair of VAL dive bombers that came after me the one in the back ground got it's bomb nailed by my AA gun just as the bomb was being released and blew the VAL apart and the other close up one has the new glow fire effect with swerling smoke behind it. Also here is a shot of my sub under water and how you will see it a lot better from above shot's with the reflections from the sun. Also a new look for the sea foam.

One will be modular where you can download a piece at a time and install little by little to find out what you can run on your PC and control the ammount of effect's you will experience in your own game.

For people wanting it all in one package there will be a window's installer that will add everything for you and can also be used to remove the mod if you don't like it.

I think that should work well enough for everyone.

There is a lot to the mod and is pretty big in nature considering every object and effect in the game has some kind of enhancment either in lighting or reflection work or both.

Yes Boatfull there will be a [REL] release note for the mod and we will have most of the moderator's get information out so people will know and a link to the thread page.

the fire effect you can see on that pic is just as fps costly as the default one - maybe even a bit less ;) all i did was change some properties around - the overall particle count should stay about the same. but i'm not completely happy yet - i'm gonna try and make a new texture for it :)

Modular mod?

Since Leo let it out of the bag and he was already on top of this for guys like myself with lesser machines:up: , yep...modular mod type package. Mix and match, add and remove to your liking and your machines liking. I did the add and remove last night with great success. It was very cool to have a choice as to what I wanted in the game and what was a must have compaired to what I could live without. With that said, I was still able to run the entire package without issue on my lesser machine. AMD3200+ 2 gig DDR400 RAM and X1300 512mb card. For guys with the quick machines, more power to ya'. For guys like me, there is an answer to our whoas and it is a good answer that works well.

Well ive been able to sub with this thing too, and the improvements are so many its hard to list, but ill try general. First of the sky is amazing the coloring the clouds ull see. Reflections of everything i mean everything is way improved, and alot of things in the enviroment say the islands have real distint reflections.
Fire and smoke both have thier own individual reflections, if the smoke is big enough the relection is huge and reminds me of 300, ha were fighting in the shade>

Underwater the light rays and wave effects are awesome, what angle the sun is is exactly the back asimuth of the rays underwater. Of course the sea textures sky land all sorts our much improved. The camera work, the new oil slicks, that burn by the way. Like i said thiers alot and i havent even listed it all im sure. I never played this game at stock i started playing it over here and the Lbo was already out, so comparing to old screenshots and what im playing is night and day. Big points to the whole mod crew.!!!

Im sure i missed some other things my bad, feel free to correct or add to what i said testers and modders.

As RC has already stated....basically it is a total overall environmental mod including action and coloration therein. There is more than RC stated but I leave that all for you to discover. When I experienced one particular part I said, "Jesus, Joseph and Mary, what the heck was that???" Leo knows what I'm talking about. Clouds now look like clouds and react like a real weather system, not the racing clouds we had with stock game. Reflections are very realistic concerning the moon and sun. Of course you know about the seafoam and it is brillant. One would wonder how LBO could be improved and Leo has found that it can be improved. You will be wow'd by the coloration at dusk. My daughter who is 12 walked over last night as I was running the seafoam mode with LBO and she stated that the water looks real. For a kid who is not in the know of what Leo is attempting to accomplish here, this simple statement speaks volumns. Keep in mind that this mod is not just sight candy....it has grown into sound candy as well. I will leave to your imagination on that one.

Also, from my understanding, when this mod is complete, Leo has discovered how to activate the many voice responses in the game that we do not get to hear at present. He intends of getting these phrases available. Now put these all together and we have a king sized mod chock full of new goodies.

In a nutshell, it is like a repaint of every room in your house. New fresh colors and textures to enjoy.

No I do not. I know Leo has been fiddling around with the phrases that are not used in the game and has gotten them to work. From what I gather Leo wants to get this mod completely finished before he digs in on the phrases. Those should be good!

No doubt!!, im doing a carrier group recon up in Dallian which is in the norther part of the Yellow sea, Its kind of hard to concentrate because im drooling all over myself, early morning mostly cloudy but has that red hue in the sky ill try to post some picts, but wow this is awesome!!:rock::rock: As far as testing goes i havent had any problems and with my rig no slow done unless thiers Alot of fires, and when i mean alot i mean Alot, but nothing A strong rig cant handle. I run everything with this wimpy one and still get all the eye candy of the mod. Good job Leo and the Crew, u guys should come up with some cool code name or team name:up:

now as you can see they are more of a downward angle reflection rather than spread out all the time.

As time passes in the game the ocean appears to change colors from a dark blue to a light blue then deep dark blue and it will reverse as the sun starts it's downward angle again. No texture changes just lighting changes create the effect.

glad you think so DeepIron and a hell of a compliment as well. Didn't intend it to be an inspirational mod but did want to make the SHIV environment much better for everyone once outside of the sub camera's are used.

Jaketoox is working on it and I am trying to help him as much as I can.

Id vote for the second set, or what u call 12. Hard to tell diff because thier both so good, but in the end the second set looks like its size goes better with the sub. Also to my eyes the second set looks more detailed ie a higher crisper res for the foam texture, or should i say a sharper look to it. But hey id play with either of them, the one i have running now is jaketooxs sorry if i spelled wrong. Foam test 4, and loving it.

I like the scale more in ver12 from the external view yet ver 8FF looks to scale from the bridge. Shot 9 is perfect. The gloss - reflection - sheen without seeing it in motion is hard to determine if its good or not.

I see the foam is really becoming a focal point. IMHO the smaller foam rendering is better. But, lets take a look at the sky. Weather front approaching, sir!

In all reality, the sky is a real piece of work. Those racing white foam looking things they called clouds are gone. In a word, amazing!
Clear night time sky is fantastic. I was looking up hoping to catch a shooting star it is that good. I was able to catch a storm at night and talk about immersion, dark and plenty of thunder rumbling around the sub. Kind of gave me the willies:oops: . I ran into the control room where the light is on. :o I did not catch any lighting but I do not think Leo had it in this test version.

One thing, my FPS were excellent with my tightwad computer. I had all mods going.

I am the numbers worker for this mod and helping on all the put together stuff and sugestions and getting things out to be tested by the Testers and tweeking the things that need it to get the best look vs FPS rate.

Kriller2 JakeToox l3th4l These are the guys busting their asses to make this dream I had of making this mod into a reality! They are doing work I do not know how to do and havn't learned yet and if it wasn't for them this would not be turning into the mod it is becomming!

Originaly like LBO it was going to be simple numbers crunching and physics introduction to the reflections and lighting effect's of the game. But thanks to
Kriller2 JakeToox and l3th4l it is turning into a lot more than the first dream to the production of this mod!

They are great guys and deserve a lot of credit and I owe them a lot!

Also all the testers I have chosen have been straight forward and honest with me about every thing they get and have been a great help in getting things right and they are an intricate part of this as well! There are a lot of people out there that say yes this looks awsome I love it and keep it up when it comes to testing things. But to find a group of guys that actualy tell you the truth and have real input into the test work and being totaly honest is a great thing to have and counts for a lot. So guys thanks to you as well!!!!!

Please all of you take notice of this as this is no longer just my mod it is a comunity job from some great people all the way around!

Unfortunatly I was sick today and wasn't able to do any testing and work and I hope tomarrow will be a better day!
