Hello.
I found to open this type somewhat more pleasantly than many individual Threads exactly to get rid of about some wishes at Mods.
I observe at the moment much this at the textures of the water-surface here, no Mods is worked at the submarine, however, to the improvement until now unfortunately itself.
Therefore, I put a small personal list at least very much they myself together with Mods here would interest. (for SH4 v1.3)
Lighter Crosshair
For the Periscopes according to this one it even at a night-attack can see.
Lighter Scala (Bearing.dds)
For the Periscope and TBT with it one also this in the night-attack better can see.
Realistic Background for the Periscope.
As if one has the feeling to look through a real Persicope. (Not simply Black)
More Submarine Skins / Textures
Historic was available, weatherings and emblems.
Smaller Clipboard.
Smaller Messagebox.I don't know, whether however, some interesting ideas are included I it there hopes a small one is encourages.
Regards from Germany

You're in luck as to at least some of these things on your list. You should check out this stickied thread, where Excalibur Bane has done a great job compiling a list of mods that work with the latest patch (1.3): http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=118945
Partway down the list in the very first post of that thread, you will find a bunch of links to new sub skin/texture mods.
Personally, I like the plain black surrounding the periscope, because if you're actually pressed up against it looking through it, you're not going to see any background around the outside of the eye-holes but the black rubber eyecups. BUT, some folks (I think 2RTR and Kapt. Klaus, maybe others) have modded the periscope view so you see stuff around it - the link to the 2RTR mod is also on the first page of the thread above - haven't been able to find the Kapt. Klaus thread again though a couple of his others are in that list in that thread.
Check out the various "Betterscopes" threads, where there's some work being done on the color/brightness of the crosshairs and bearing markers in the scope views.
I came up with a couple of mods that could be starting points for what you want with the message box and clipboard. My message box mod (see here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=114264) just moves it and makes it transparent, but resizing it should be a pretty simple tweak to the areas I've already identified - if it gets much smaller, it'll be hard to see many commands, but if you tell me how small you want it I might have some time to take a whack at it for you. My clipboard mod (see here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=633885#post633885 )was actually designed to enlarge it rather than shrink it, but it could probably be reversed a bit to shrink it instead. Again, if you let me know how small you want it I might have time to take a whack at it (though you can certainly do either of these yourself by just playing around with the values in the menu_1024_768.ini file in and around those same sections noted in my mod threads, if you wish).
At any rate, I think you will be able to get your wish on most if not all of your list.
Good luck!

Your Mod for the bigger clipboard certainly is very interesting.
I even play SH4 with a dissolution of 1280x1024 and find the clipboard too big.
One reduces about the half already was there really helpfully.. whether one still can now reduce the font size to it, would be also a question. But I think that that then would be probably already too much required.
To the textures:
I find this marvelously genuinely for itself it some people thoughts here makes something everything one also so much could alter and works in.
Until now, however, I don't yet find some textures / skins satisfactorily.
Maybe it is because of it, that little one as a modeller one more at original models thinks.
This small list this I wrote, matters were they primarily same interest-Irishmans me sooner and at the UBI certainly never would think with another Patch.
One cannot see the crosshair at all just with night, that is dumb.
Now, we still see something everything will come. I am tense.

Well, reducing the size shouldn't be that big a deal - the real problem will just be getting all the little related piece parts to wind up in the right place. I haven't looked at or thought about all that stuff since I did it way back when, so it'll probably take more trial and error than it should, but if I get some time in the next couple of days I'll see if I can whip something up for that.
As it turns out, in response to a post in another thread, I was able to enlarge the size of the text on the clip board (see the picture below):
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y96/Cladean/BigprintCaptainslog.jpg
Thus I know it should also be possible to reduce the size of the text font as well - however, the funny part about it is I can't find the part of the menu_1024_768.ini file to change to make the fonts get bigger (or smaller) only on the clipboard - I got the picture from doing a quick and dirty global font change as a test, so I've identified which font needs to be changed to make this work, BUT there are a ton of references to that font in the file and so far none of them I've tried individually have been the one that works for the clipboard, so it's looking like I've got a lot more testing ahead of me before I can explain how I got the font size to change :damn:

And nevertheless already a praiseworthy one works.
In the menu_1024_768.ini i looked also already for some matters because disturbs me not only the size of the clipboard but also a few other messages.
Maybe I should myself with the Modding, some of my "special wishes" employ filled with it I gets.
If I already tried it, but it went wrong thoroughly every time.
I didn't speak any more English since my schooldays unfortunately not to read very easily it to me some Tutorials here either fall.
But it become i simply itself as well tries.

Well, you probably should give it a try - it's kinda interesting and it can give you some insights into how to tweak other parts of the game to your liking.
Plus, I haven't been able to find the particular place in the file to tweak to make the font change size. Darndest thing - if I make a global font switch as follows in the beginning of the file:;Font19=DATA/Menu/Fonts/Agency_16.tga
Font19=DATA/Menu/Fonts/Agency_24.tga
the font in the captain's log on the clipboard gets bigger like shown in the picture in my post above.
HOWEVER, when I put that change back to normal and then individually go through the file and change every instance of "Font=19" to "Font=21" (where, according to the unchanged file, "Font21=DATA/Menu/Fonts/Agency_24.tga"), the text size in the captain's log never gets bigger :damn:
No idea what's going on with this, other than maybe the font for the captain's log is somehow hard coded or designated in some other file to be Font=19. Got one more test to try, and then I'm going to have to give up on resizing the text unless someone has another idea.
[EDIT] well, no luck - my last idea just throws off CTDs, and it looks like there are other places that are somehow hard-tied somewhere else to needing to be Font=19, as they get screwed up (like some of the menu lists for saved games) when you globally change font19 to something else. It seems strange that there are so many places in the file where you can change fonts/sizes, but others that don't seem to work that way. Maybe you can figure it out once you get into this stuff. If I have any brainstorms I'll take another whack at it, but I'm fresh out of ideas at this point.

Hi panthercules.. .
Very interesting what you found.. . I put looked at corresponding myself in the INI just once and push again and again on "Font1" and "Font19."
I will try for a very long time once to alter the fonts, until one exactly knows which writes down responsibly for it is.
Also I should become come them/her/it very gladly to new conclusions myself tells.

One thing I just noticed when looking at my "big print" screenshot that I didn't notice before - apparently, the text for the message box (lower left corner) shares the same font with the captain's log text - they both got bigger in that test. Not sure what if anything that means that might be useful, but thought it was interesting nonetheless.
